CATCH DIFFERENCES OF BOTTOM LONG LINE USING FRESH AND SALTED FISH BAITS

    Get PDF
Bottom long line is an important gear for catching demersal fish and normally uses fresh fish as bait. Recent development indicates that the fishing  grounds for bottom long line are  further away from the coast and consequently bait with longer life-time may be needed. Research on the use of fresh and salted fish baits for bottom long line has been conducted in the eastern Bali waters. In this study, salted and fresh baits were used simultaneously for fishing. The results showed that the catch of bottom long line using fresh bait was significantly higher than that for salted bait  indicating that other suitable preservation techniques are necessary

The topographical surveys were conducted from September 1st to 20th 2004 at southern part of Java and from September 20th to October 30th 2004 at the western part of Sumatera. Exact isobaths were necessary to determine the size of the area in order to identify the possible fishing ground for deep sea demersal fishes

CATCH RATE AND CATCH COMPOSITION OF MINI PURSE SEINE IN BUALEMO, BANGGAI DISTRICT

    Get PDF
Small pelagic fishery is the largest potential commodity in the waters of Tomini Bay which reached 64% of the total fish resources. Mini purse seine (soma pajeko) is the major fishing gear that used to utilize small pelagic resources in Tomini Bay. One of the main fishing grounds of mini purse seine vessels in Tomini Bay is in Bualemo and the surrounding waters. The aim of this research was to describe mini purse seine fishery in Bualemo especially about the aspects of the catch rate and catch composition. From the analysis of the daily catch data, there was a fluctuation of the average of catch rate each month. The catch of mini purse seine in Bualemo was dominated by two main species that is malalugis/mackerel scad (Decapterus macarellus) and bigeye scad (Selar crumenophthalmus). The large amount of the young fish (juvenile) caught by mini purse seine caused by the vessels operated around FADs and the mesh size that was less selective

Modifikasi pemberat hand line dengan inovasi menggunakan pemberat batu beton pada penangkapan tuna di Pelabuhan Perikanan Samudera (PPS) Bitung

    Get PDF
AbstractHandline can be categorized as small scale fisheries. However, quantitatively the number of Hand Line Tuna fishing gears in the Bitung Oceanic Fishing Port (PPS Bitung) is highly dominant compared to purse seine, longline, and pole and line. There is a problem at the research area for the sustainability of the handline tuna fishing gear in the future, such as substances or materials from handline fishing gear components that are limited in nature, therefore the aims of this study to create weigher modifications that are practically available in natural material, by innovating sinker on tuna handline from the natural stone into concrete stone. And to know the use of concrete stones have an impact on catches in the fishing ground. The results of this study indicate that concrete stone testing has a significant influence on the catches. The sustainability of the capture business for the tuna handline in the city of Bitung will still be able to survive if the availability of limited natural stone can be replaced by the innovations of concrete stone weight

TECHNICAL EFICIENCY OF FISH AGGREGATING DEVICES ASSOCIATED WITH TUNA FISHERY IN KENDARI FISHING PORT – INDONESIA

    Get PDF
Kendari fishing port is one of the biggest tuna fisheries landing in Indonesia. It yearly average tuna production was more than 20 thousand tons. The tuna fishing fleet in Kendari use FAD (Fish Aggregating Devices) as an auxiliary fishing gear. FAD management is major issues in Indonesian tuna fisheries. extensive investment on FAD has led to increase of the juvenile and by catch and also social problem because of the competition. Technical efficiency analysis was done during this study, 2015 catch and logistic data from Kendari fishing port was run using stochastic frontier to obtain the model. Mean value technical efficiency was 0.534. Purse seine the highest mean value compared to other fishing gear. All the variables input show positive relationship to the catch except the days at sea variables, this is a signal that the increasing number of FAD has made the fisherman spend more time at sea it will decrease the technical efficiency. The results support the need of FAD regulation done by the government of Indonesia. Regulation will keep the number of FAD at optimum level and increase the technical effieciency so the fisheries keep gaining the optimum benefit from the resources
