    Reliability Evaluation for Mechanical Systems by Petri Nets

    The current trend in mechanical engineering is to design mechanical systems with higher stability, reliability, availability and operability. In order to meet the requirement of high reliability for a machine, it is of great importance for designers to seek the weak links in the system and learn the state of the key subsystems, carrying out the remedial measures when necessary. Hence, behavior modeling and failure analysis are the two aspects seriously concerned in the reliability evaluation in mechanical systems. This chapter will introduce new methodologies that use the fuzzy reasoning Petri net (FRPN) models to evaluate the reliability of mechanical systems in reliability prediction, reliability apportionment and reliability analysis. Cases are proposed by analyzing a spacecraft solar array system using the proposed method. Results indicate that the Petri nets models can contribute to a higher accuracy in reliability evaluation for mechanical systems

    Objective. This study probed the mechanism of microRNA (miR)-141-3p in the progression of pulmonary fibrosis (PF). Methods. Mice were intratracheally administered with bleomycin (BLM) to establish a PF mouse model. To investigate the effects of miR-141-3p/Spred2 on PF in mice, PF mice received tail vein injections with agomir-141-3p and/or adenovirus vectors overexpressing Spred2 one week after BLM treatment. Then, the pathological changes of lung tissues were analyzed with H&E and Massonā€™s trichrome staining, and hydroxyproline contents in lung tissues were measured. For cell experiments, after loss- and gain-of-function assays, the role of miR-141-3p/Spred2 in the apoptosis and viability of TGF-Ī²1-stimulated MLE-12 cells was examined by flow cytometry and CCK-8 assay, respectively. miR-141-3p, Spred2, COl 1, and Ī±-SMA expression was determined in cells and mice. Then, the binding of miR-141-3p to Spred2 was tested with a dualluciferase reporter assay. Results. There were abnormally upregulated Spred2 and downregulated miR-141-3p in lung tissues of PF mice. TGF-Ī²1 decelerated viability and augmented apoptosis and COl 1 and Ī±-SMA expression in MLE-12 cells. Spred2 knockdown diminished apoptosis and Ī±SMA and COl 1 expression while enhancing proliferation in TGF-Ī²1-treated MLE-12 cells. Mechanistically, Spred2 was a target gene of miR-1413p. miR-141-3p upregulation accelerated proliferation and repressed apoptosis and Ī±-SMA and COl 1 expression in TGF-Ī²1-treated MLE-12 cells, which was nullified by further overexpressing Spred2. miR-141-3p alleviated PF in mice by targeting Spred2.     Positive outcome expectancy mediates the relationship between social influence and Internet addiction among senior high-school students

    Background and aims Based on the foundations of Banduraā€™s social cognitive theory and theory of triadic influence (TTI) theoretical framework, this study was designed to examine the mediating role of positive outcome expectancy of Internet use in the relationship between social influence and Internet addiction (IA) in a large representative sample of senior high-school students in Taiwan. Methods Using a cross-sectional design, 1,922 participants were recruited from senior high schools throughout Taiwan using both stratified and cluster sampling, and a comprehensive survey was administered. Results Structural equation modeling and bootstrap analyses results showed that IA severity was significantly and positively predicted by social influence, and fully mediated through positive outcome expectancy of Internet use. Discussion and conclusions The results not only support Banduraā€™s social cognitive theory and TTI framework, but can also serve as a reference to help educational agencies and mental health organizations design programs and create policies that will help in the prevention of IA among adolescents

    A cluster-based baseline load calculation approach for individual industrial and commercial customer

    Demand response (DR) in the wholesale electricity market provides an economical and efficient way for customers to participate in the trade during the DR event period. There are various methods to measure the performance of a DR program, among which customer baseline load (CBL) is the most important method in this regard. It provides a prediction of counterfactual consumption levels that customer load would have been without a DR program. Actually, it is an expected load profile. Since the calculation of CBL should be fair and simple, the typical methods that are based on the average model and regression model are the two widely used methods. In this paper, a cluster-based approach is proposed considering the multiple power usage patterns of an individual customer throughout the year. It divides loads of a customer into different types of power usage patterns and it implicitly incorporates the impact of weather and holiday into the CBL calculation. As a result, different baseline calculation approaches could be applied to each customer according to the type of his power usage patterns. Finally, several case studies are conducted on the actual utility meter data, through which the effectiveness of the proposed CBL calculation approach is verified
