Inhibition of NUCKS Facilitates Corneal Recovery Following Alkali Burn
Corneal wound healing involves a complex cascade of cytokine-controlled cellular events, including inflammatory and angiogenesis responses that are regulated by transcriptional chromatin remodeling. Nuclear Ubiquitous Casein and cyclin-dependent Kinase Substrate (NUCKS) is a key chromatin modifier and transcriptional regulator of metabolic signaling. In this study, we investigated the role of NUCKS in corneal wound healing by comparing its effects on corneal alkali burn in NUCKS knockout (NKO) and NUCKS wild-type (NWT) mice. Our data showed that following alkali-injury, inhibition of NUCKS (NKO) accelerated ocular resurfacing and suppressed neovascularization; the cytokine profile of alkali burned corneas in NKO mice showed suppressed expression of inflammation cytokines (IL1A &IL1B); upregulated expression of antiangiogenic factor (Pigment Epithelium-derived Factor; PEDF); and downregulated expression of angiogenic factor (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, VEGF); in vitro, following LPS-induced NFκB activation, NKO corneal cells showed reduced expression of IL6, IP10 and TNFα. In vitro, corneal epithelial cells showed reduced NF-κb activation on silencing of NUCKS and corresponding NFκB-mediated cytokine expression was reduced. Here, we illustrate that inhibition of NUCKS played a role in cytokine modulation and facilitated corneal recovery. Enhancing Transport Efficiency by Hybrid Routing Strategy
Traffic is essential for many dynamic processes on real networks, such as
internet and urban traffic systems. The transport efficiency of the traffic
system can be improved by taking full advantage of the resources in the system.
In this paper, we propose a dual-strategy routing model for network traffic
system, to realize the plenary utility of the whole network. The packets are
delivered according to different "efficient routing strategies" [Yan, et al,
Phys. Rev. E 73, 046108 (2006)]. We introduce the accumulate rate of packets,
{\eta} to measure the performance of traffic system in the congested phase, and
propose the so-called equivalent generation rate of packet to analyze the
jamming processes. From analytical and numerical results, we find that, for
suitable selection of strategies, the dual- strategy system performs better
than the single-strategy system in a broad region of strategy mixing ratio. The
analytical solution to the jamming processes is verified by estimating the
number of jammed nodes, which coincides well with the result from simulation.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure

Small size boundary effects on two-pion interferometry
The Bose-Einstein correlations of two identically charged pions are derived
when these particles, the most abundantly produced in relativistic heavy ion
collisions, are confined in finite volumes. Boundary effects on single pion
spectrum are also studied. Numerical results emphasize that conventional
formulation usually adopted to describe two-pion interferometry should not be
used when the source size is small, since this is the most sensitive case to

Constraints on Spin-Independent Nucleus Scattering with sub-GeV Weakly Interacting Massive Particle Dark Matter from the CDEX-1B Experiment at the China Jin-Ping Laboratory
We report results on the searches of weakly interacting massive particles
(WIMPs) with sub-GeV masses () via WIMP-nucleus spin-independent
scattering with Migdal effect incorporated. Analysis on time-integrated (TI)
and annual modulation (AM) effects on CDEX-1B data are performed, with 737.1
kgday exposure and 160 eVee threshold for TI analysis, and 1107.5
kgday exposure and 250 eVee threshold for AM analysis. The sensitive
windows in are expanded by an order of magnitude to lower DM masses
with Migdal effect incorporated. New limits on at
90\% confidence level are derived as 1010

Search for Light Weakly-Interacting-Massive-Particle Dark Matter by Annual Modulation Analysis with a Point-Contact Germanium Detector at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory
We present results on light weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP)
searches with annual modulation (AM) analysis on data from a 1-kg mass -type
point-contact germanium detector of the CDEX-1B experiment at the China Jinping
Underground Laboratory. Datasets with a total live time of 3.2 yr within a 4.2
yr span are analyzed with analysis threshold of 250 eVee. Limits on
WIMP-nucleus (-) spin-independent cross sections as function of WIMP
mass () at 90\% confidence level (C.L.) are derived using the dark
matter halo model. Within the context of the standard halo model, the 90\% C.L.
allowed regions implied by the DAMA/LIBRA and CoGeNT AM-based analysis are
excluded at 99.99\% and 98\% C.L., respectively. These results correspond to
the best sensitivity at 6 among WIMP AM

Incident heart failure and myocardial infarction in sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 versus dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor users
Objectives To compare the rates of major cardiovascular adverse events in sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2I) and dipeptidyl-peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP4I) users in a Chinese population.
Background SGLT2I and DPP4I are increasingly prescribed for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. However, few population-based studies are comparing their effects on incident heart failure or myocardial infarction.
Methods This was a population-based retrospective cohort study using the electronic health record database in Hong Kong, including type 2 diabetes mellitus patients receiving either SGLT2I or DPP4I between January 1st, 2015, to December 31st, 2020. Propensity-score matching was performed in a 1:1 ratio based on demographics, past comorbidities, non-SGLT2I/DPP4I medications with nearest-neighbor matching (caliper=0.1). Univariable and multivariable Cox models were used to identify significant predictors for new onset heart failure, new onset myocardial infarction, cardiovascular mortality, and all-cause mortality. Sensitivity analyses with competing risk models and multiple propensity score matching approaches were conducted. Subgroup age and gender analyses were presented.
Results A total of 41994 patients (58.89% males, median admission age at 58 years old, interquartile rage [IQR]: 51.2-65.3) were included in the study cohorts with a median follow-up duration of 5.6 years (IQR: 5.32-5.82). After adjusting for significant demographics, past comorbidities, medication prescriptions and biochemical results, SGLT2I users have a significantly lower risk for myocardial infarction (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.34, 95% confidence interval [CI]: [0.28, 0.41], P < 0.0001), cardiovascular mortality (HR: 0.53, 95% CI: [0.38, 0.74], P = 0.0002) and all-cause mortality (HR: 0.21, 95% CI: [0.18, 0.25], P= 0.0001) under multivariable Cox regression. However, the risk for heart failure is comparable (HR: 0.87, 95% CI: [0.73, 1.04], P= 0.1343).
Conclusions SGLT2 inhibitors are protective against adverse cardiovascular events compared to DPP4I. The prescription of SGLT2I is preferred especially for males and patients aged 65 or older to prevent cardiovascular risks
