MECHANISM OF LANDING STRATERGY DURING STEP AEROBICS WITH DIFFERENT BENCH HEIGHTS AND LOADS
The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of different heights (6inch, 8inch, 10inch) and external loads (0% BW, 10% BW, 15% BW) on lower extremity during step aerobics. Ten college physical education students (age: 23.8 ± 2.1 years, height: 173.5 ± 6.1 cm, weight: 68.5 ± 8.0 kg) participated in this study. A Mega high-speed camera (100 Hz) and an ATMI force plate (1000Hz) were used to record kinematic and kinetic data respectively during step aerobics. Increased vertical ground reaction force, ankle movement, and decreased leg stiffness and ankle joint stiffness were found as the bench height increased to 10 inches which were considered to a high loading rates and shock to the lower extremity, especially at ankle joint. Therefore, people should avoid doing step aerobics at 10-inch bench height for a long time to protect ankle joint and soft tissue from injury
Pretreatment gamma-glutamyl transferase predicts mortality in patients with chronic hepatitis B treated with nucleotide/nucleoside analogs
Mortality; TreatmentMortalitat; TractamentMortalidad; TratamientoElevated serum gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels are associated with chronic hepatitis B (CHB)-related hepatocellular carcinoma. However, their role in predicting mortality in patients with CHB treated with nucleotide/nucleoside analogs (NAs) remains elusive. Altogether, 2843 patients with CHB treated with NAs were recruited from a multinational cohort. Serum GGT levels before and 6 months (Month-6) after initiating NAs were measured to explore their association with all-cause, liver-related, and non-liver-related mortality. The annual incidence of all-cause mortality was 0.9/100 person-years over a follow-up period of 17,436.3 person-years. Compared with patients who survived, those who died had a significantly higher pretreatment (89.3 vs. 67.4 U/L, p = 0.002) and Month-6-GGT levels (62.1 vs. 38.4 U/L, p 75 percentile of pretreatment GGT levels was observed with respect to the all-cause mortality (trend p < 0.001). Pretreatment serum GGT levels predicted all-cause, liver-related, and non-liver-related mortality in patients with CHB treated with NAs
Opportunities and Challenges for ChatGPT and Large Language Models in Biomedicine and Health
ChatGPT has drawn considerable attention from both the general public and
domain experts with its remarkable text generation capabilities. This has
subsequently led to the emergence of diverse applications in the field of
biomedicine and health. In this work, we examine the diverse applications of
large language models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, in biomedicine and health.
Specifically we explore the areas of biomedical information retrieval, question
answering, medical text summarization, information extraction, and medical
education, and investigate whether LLMs possess the transformative power to
revolutionize these tasks or whether the distinct complexities of biomedical
domain presents unique challenges. Following an extensive literature survey, we
find that significant advances have been made in the field of text generation
tasks, surpassing the previous state-of-the-art methods. For other
applications, the advances have been modest. Overall, LLMs have not yet
revolutionized the biomedicine, but recent rapid progress indicates that such
methods hold great potential to provide valuable means for accelerating
discovery and improving health. We also find that the use of LLMs, like
ChatGPT, in the fields of biomedicine and health entails various risks and
challenges, including fabricated information in its generated responses, as
well as legal and privacy concerns associated with sensitive patient data. We
believe this first-of-its-kind survey can provide a comprehensive overview to
biomedical researchers and healthcare practitioners on the opportunities and
challenges associated with using ChatGPT and other LLMs for transforming
biomedicine and health
Acute hypertensive pulmonary edema after Cesarean section in a patient with an antepartum myocardial infarction -A case report-
We report a case of 29-year-old, morbidly obese, diabetic primigravida who had undergone previously primary percutaneous coronary intervention with stent placement for an inferior wall myocardial infarction at 10 weeks of gestation. She remained asymptomatic with medication during the remainder of her pregnancy, but preoperative echocardiography revealed left ventricular dilation and a restrictive diastolic dysfunction with a preserved ejection fraction (46%). She developed acute pulmonary edema associated with hypertension after an elective Cesarean delivery under continuous epidural anesthesia despite the meticulous restriction of fluid
A mutual activation loop between breast cancer cells and myeloid-derived suppressor cells facilitates spontaneous metastasis through IL-6 trans-signaling in a murine model
Introduction : Tumor cell interactions with the microenvironment, especially those of bone-marrow-derived myeloid cells, are important in various aspects of tumor metastasis. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) have been suggested to constitute tumor-favoring microenvironments. In this study, we elucidated a novel mechanism by which the MDSCs can mediate spontaneous distant metastasis of breast cancer cells.
Methods : Murine breast cancer cells, 4T1 and EMT6, were orthotopically grafted into the mammary fat pads of syngeneic BALB/c mice. CD11b+Gr-1+ MDSCs in the spleen, liver, lung and primary tumor mass were analyzed. To evaluate the role of MDSCs in the distant metastasis, MDSCs were depleted or reconstituted in tumor-bearing mice. To evaluate whether MDSCs in the metastasizing tumor microenvironment affect breast cancer cell behavior, MDSCs and cancer cells were co-cultivated. To investigate the role of MDSCs in in vivo metastasis, we blocked the interactions between MDSCs and cancer cells.
Results : Using a murine breast cancer cell model, we showed that murine breast cancer cells with high IL-6 expression recruited more MDSCs and that the metastasizing capacity of cancer cells paralleled MDSC recruitment in tumor-bearing mice. Metastasizing, but not non-metastasizing, tumor-derived factors induced MDSCs to increase IL-6 production and full activation of recruited MDSCs occurred in the primary tumor site and metastatic organ in the vicinity of metastasizing cancer cells, but not in lymphoid organs. In addition, tumor-expanded MDSCs expressed Adam-family proteases, which facilitated shedding of IL-6 receptor, thereby contributing to breast cancer cell invasiveness and distant metastasis through IL-6 trans-signaling. The critical role of IL-6 trans-signaling was confirmed in both the afferent and efferent pathways of metastasis.
Conclusion : In this study, we showed that metastasizing cancer cells induced higher MDSCs infiltration and prompted them to secret exaggerated IL-6 as well as soluble IL-6Rα, which, in turn, triggered a persistent increase of pSTAT3 in tumor cells. Standard of Practice for the Endovascular Treatment of Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms and Type B Dissections
Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) represents a minimally invasive technique alternative to conventional open surgical reconstruction for the treatment of thoracic aortic pathologies. Rapid advances in endovascular technology and procedural breakthroughs have contributed to a dramatic transformation of the entire field of thoracic aortic surgery. TEVAR procedures can be challenging and, at times, extraordinarily difficult. They require seasoned endovascular experience and refined skills. Of all endovascular procedures, meticulous assessment of anatomy and preoperative procedure planning are absolutely paramount to produce optimal outcomes. These guidelines are intended for use in quality-improvement programs that assess the standard of care expected from all physicians who perform TEVAR procedures
A Continental-Wide Perspective: The Genepool of Nuclear Encoded Ribosomal DNA and Single-Copy Gene Sequences in North American Boechera (Brassicaceae)
74 of the currently accepted 111 taxa of the North American genus Boechera (Brassicaceae) were subject to pyhlogenetic reconstruction and network analysis. The dataset comprised 911 accessions for which ITS sequences were analyzed. Phylogenetic analyses yielded largely unresolved trees. Together with the network analysis confirming this result this can be interpreted as an indication for multiple, independent, and rapid diversification events. Network analyses were superimposed with datasets describing i) geographical distribution, ii) taxonomy, iii) reproductive mode, and iv) distribution history based on phylogeographic evidence. Our results provide first direct evidence for enormous reticulate evolution in the entire genus and give further insights into the evolutionary history of this complex genus on a continental scale. In addition two novel single-copy gene markers, orthologues of the Arabidopsis thaliana genes At2g25920 and At3g18900, were analyzed for subsets of taxa and confirmed the findings obtained through the ITS data
