Odontologia.Foram revisadas na literatura as principais opções de tratamento para a agenesia de incisivos laterais superiores permanentes com o objetivo de oferecer ao ortodontista informações necessárias para que possa tomar a melhor decisão de tratamento, junto ao paciente e outros especialistas de áreas envolvidas. As indicações, contra indicações, vantagens, desvantagens e limitações sobre cada uma das opções de tratamento são relatadas neste trabalho. Observou-se a importância do diagnóstico precoce e considerações que devem ser salientadas durante o planejamento ortodôntico. Descrição de fatores que irão auxiliar o cirurgião dentista a definir a melhor conduta entre abrir ou manter os espaços para futura reabilitação protética ou fechar os espaços com a mesialização dos caninos no lugar dos dentes ausentes. A agenesia de incisivos laterais necessita de um tratamento multidisciplinar, a fim de que se possa obter os melhores resultados em termos de estética, oclusão e conservação de estruturas dentárias e de suporte

Increasing the reliability of fully automated surveillance for central line–associated bloodstream infections

OBJECTIVETo increase reliability of the algorithm used in our fully automated electronic surveillance system by adding rules to better identify bloodstream infections secondary to other hospital-acquired infections.METHODSIntensive care unit (ICU) patients with positive blood cultures were reviewed. Central line–associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) determinations were based on 2 sources: routine surveillance by infection preventionists, and fully automated surveillance. Discrepancies between the 2 sources were evaluated to determine root causes. Secondary infection sites were identified in most discrepant cases. New rules to identify secondary sites were added to the algorithm and applied to this ICU population and a non-ICU population. Sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, and kappa were calculated for the new models.RESULTSOf 643 positive ICU blood cultures reviewed, 68 (10.6%) were identified as central line–associated bloodstream infections by fully automated electronic surveillance, whereas 38 (5.9%) were confirmed by routine surveillance. New rules were tested to identify organisms as central line–associated bloodstream infections if they did not meet one, or a combination of, the following: (I) matching organisms (by genus and species) cultured from any other site; (II) any organisms cultured from sterile site; (III) any organisms cultured from skin/wound; (IV) any organisms cultured from respiratory tract. The best-fit model included new rules I and II when applied to positive blood cultures in an ICU population. However, they didn’t improve performance of the algorithm when applied to positive blood cultures in a non-ICU population.CONCLUSIONElectronic surveillance system algorithms may need adjustment for specific populations.Infect. O ensino coletivo de percussão

O ensino coletivo de percussão envolve muitas questões a serem debatidas, como a diversidade de instrumentos, técnicas, ritmos, bem como o resgate e/ou valorização da cultura popular de um contexto específico. Este artigo teve como objetivo apresentar um escopo teórico sobre o ensino coletivo de percussão, tendo como foco a discussão de metodologias, da complexidade multi-instrumental e de questões socioculturais que podem estar vinculadas a este ensino. Para isto, foi necessário investigar de que maneira ocorre o ensino-aprendizagem de percussão em contextos de ensino formal e não formal, com o intuito de relatar a criação dos primeiros cursos e docentes que são referência hoje no Brasil. Dentro do ensino coletivo, observou-se que a percussão apresenta grandes possibilidades para o desenvolvimento de uma prática intimamente conectada aos saberes da cultura popular. A partir da contextualização e vivência coletiva de ritmos amalgamados à identidade afro-brasileira, é possível enxergar uma ação pedagógica com abordagem sociocultural, que vai além de questões restritas à técnica e linguagem musical.The teaching percussion collective involves issues to be debated, such as the diversity of instruments, techniques, rhythms, as well as the rescue and/or appreciation of popular culture in a specific context. This article aimed to present a scope study on collective teaching of percussion, focusing on the discussion of methodologies, multi-instrumental complexity and sociocultural issues that may be linked to this sociocultural teaching. For this, it was necessary to investigate how percussion teaching-learning occurs in formal and non-formal teaching contexts, in order to report the creation of the first courses and teachers that are a reference today in Brazil. Within collective teaching, it was observed that percussion presents great possibilities for the development of a collective teaching practice connected to the sabers of connected popular culture. From the contextualization and collective experience of rhythms amalgamated to the Afro-Brazilian identity, a pedagogical action with a sociocultural approach is possible, ranging from issues restricted to technique and musical vision

Which comorbid conditions should we be analyzing as risk factors for healthcare-associated infections?

OBJECTIVETo determine which comorbid conditions are considered causally related to central-line associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) and surgical-site infection (SSI) based on expert consensus.DESIGNUsing the Delphi method, we administered an iterative, 2-round survey to 9 infectious disease and infection control experts from the United States.METHODSBased on our selection of components from the Charlson and Elixhauser comorbidity indices, 35 different comorbid conditions were rated from 1 (not at all related) to 5 (strongly related) by each expert separately for CLABSI and SSI, based on perceived relatedness to the outcome. To assign expert consensus on causal relatedness for each comorbid condition, all 3 of the following criteria had to be met at the end of the second round: (1) a majority (&gt;50%) of experts rating the condition at 3 (somewhat related) or higher, (2) interquartile range (IQR)≤1, and (3) standard deviation (SD)≤1.RESULTSFrom round 1 to round 2, the IQR and SD, respectively, decreased for ratings of 21 of 35 (60%) and 33 of 35 (94%) comorbid conditions for CLABSI, and for 17 of 35 (49%) and 32 of 35 (91%) comorbid conditions for SSI, suggesting improvement in consensus among this group of experts. At the end of round 2, 13 of 35 (37%) and 17 of 35 (49%) comorbid conditions were perceived as causally related to CLABSI and SSI, respectively.CONCLUSIONSOur results have produced a list of comorbid conditions that should be analyzed as risk factors for and further explored for risk adjustment of CLABSI and SSI.Infect Control Hosp Epidemiol 2017;38:449–454</jats:sec

Práticas percussivas nas aulas de música do ensino fundamental

Para esta pesquisa foram utilizadas informações já existentes em vídeo que, depois de analisadas, contribuíram para compreender como a percussão é trabalhada nas aulas da disciplina curricular Artes/Música. Das 40 aulas gravadas em seis escolas da rede pública de ensino dos estados de Santa Catarina e Paraná, sete que apresentavam atividades com percussão foram selecionadas, tendo sido analisadas a partir de categorias relacionadas aos processos de ensino-aprendizagem: imitação e escuta, música em conjunto, percussão como forma de musicalização e desenvolvimento psicomotor. Constatou-se que a percussão foi utilizada nas sete aulas como um meio para desenvolver a musicalização e a psicomotricidade. Atividades de imitação e escuta, bem como a prática coletiva estiveram presentes em três aulas. Conclui-se que as atividades com percussão nas aulas de música apresentaram uma grande quantidade de possibilidades e variedades de instrumentos, porém ainda são poucos os professores que se utilizam dessa prática
