Ecological Observations on Predatory Coccinellidae (Coleoptera) in Southwestern Michigan
Ecological observations on habitat utilization by thirteen species of predatory Coccinellidae were made at a southern Michigan site during 1989 and 1990. Most of species were common during both years and used both agricul- tural and uncultivated habitats. Coccinella septempunctata and Coleomegilla maculata, were the most abundant in agricultural crops (alfalfa, maize, soy- bean and triticale), whereas Adalia bipunctata and Cycloneda munda, were the most abundant in deciduous and bushy habitats
Ab Initio Treatment of Collective Correlations and the Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay of Ca
Working with Hamiltonians from chiral effective field theory, we develop a
novel framework for describing arbitrary deformed medium-mass nuclei by
combining the in-medium similarity renormalization group with the generator
coordinate method. The approach leverages the ability of the first method to
capture dynamic correlations and the second to include collective correlations
without violating symmetries. We use our scheme to compute the matrix element
that governs the neutrinoless double beta decay of Ca to Ti, and
find it to have the value , near or below the predictions of most
phenomenological methods. The result opens the door to ab initio calculations
of the matrix elements for the decay of heavier nuclei such as Ge,

Solitonic spin-liquid state due to the violation of the Lifshitz condition in FeTe
A combination of phenomenological analysis and M\"ossbauer spectroscopy
experiments on the tetragonal FeTe system indicates that the magnetic
ordering transition in compounds with higher Fe-excess, 0.11, is
unconventional. Experimentally, a liquid-like magnetic precursor with
quasi-static spin-order is found from significantly broadened M\"ossbauer
spectra at temperatures above the antiferromagnetic transition. The
incommensurate spin-density wave (SDW) order in FeTe is described by a
magnetic free energy that violates the weak Lifshitz condition in the Landau
theory of second-order transitions. The presence of multiple Lifshitz
invariants provides the mechanism to create multidimensional, twisted, and

The interruption of the publication of the Deutsche Zeitschrift für die gesamte gerichtliche Medizin due to the war ended with volume 39 for the years 1948/1949. Until volume 66/1969, the journal appeared unchanged under the historical title. The 912 publications contained in the 28 volumes of these two decades cover topics from the main fields of forensic medicine, but also from related and unrelated disciplines. The topic-specific analysis of the publications shows a shift of the research focus in the German institutes since the post-war period. This is most evident in the decline in the number of publications from the fields of scientific and technical criminalistics as well as forensic psychiatry and psychology. An opposite trend with a significant increase in scientific papers was observed in alcohology, forensic genetics and traffic medicine. While the evaluated publications on most topics contain new findings that are still valid today, the use of blood group characteristics for forensic purposes came to an end as a result of the introduction of DNA analysis
From Deutsche Zeitschrift to International Journal of Legal Medicine-100 years of legal medicine through the lens of journal articles : Part 3: Zeitschrift für Rechtsmedizin-Journal of Legal Medicine from 1970 to 1990.
From volume 67 (1970) onwards, the journal appeared under the new bilingual title Zeitschrift für Rechtsmedizin-Journal of Legal Medicine. The editorial board was expanded and internationalised. From 1970 to 1990, 1416 articles were published in 36 volumes. 1036 articles were in German and 380 in English. The authors of 411 articles came from non-German-speaking countries. Compared to the periods under review in the first two parts of our article series, the proportion of papers on forensic genetics increased significantly between 1970 and 1990, with a small increase in publications on the identification of unknown dead bodies. An opposite trend was observed in the articles on forensic psychiatry and psychology, sexual medicine and social medicine. This development reflects a further sharpening of the discipline's profile

This is the fourth and final paper in a series related to the analysis of articles published in this journal during its first 100 years of activity. This article covers the time span from 1990 to 2022. It is important to note that, given the period covered by this analysis, it does not aim to provide a historical overview but rather an examination of the most recent trends in our discipline compared to the past. Between 1990 (Volume 104) and 2022 (Volume 136), 4004 articles were published in the International Journal of Legal Medicine (IJLM) across 33 volumes. This corresponds to 53% of all the articles published since the launch of the journal. When compared to the period from 1970 to 1990, some categories no longer appear to be as relevant (e.g., sexual medicine, 1 article; social medicine, 0 articles; biography, 3 articles; history, 4 articles). Conversely, the most recent period has shown an increasing importance in forensic genetics (1388 articles) and the emergence of new significant topics that merit their own classification, such as age estimation (286 articles), forensic anthropology (189 articles), forensic imaging (150 articles), and forensic entomology (90 articles)
Finding Galaxy Groups In Photometric Redshift Space: the Probability Friends-of-Friends (pFoF) Algorithm
We present a structure finding algorithm designed to identify galaxy groups
in photometric redshift data sets: the probability friends-of-friends (pFoF)
algorithm. This algorithm is derived by combining the friends-of-friends
algorithm in the transverse direction and the photometric redshift probability
densities in the radial dimension. The innovative characteristic of our
group-finding algorithm is the improvement of redshift estimation via the
constraints given by the transversely connected galaxies in a group, based on
the assumption that all galaxies in a group have the same redshift. Tests using
the Virgo Consortium Millennium Simulation mock catalogs allow us to show that
the recovery rate of the pFoF algorithm is larger than 80% for mock groups of
at least 2\times10^{13}M_{\sun}, while the false detection rate is about 10%
for pFoF groups containing at least net members. Applying the algorithm
to the CNOC2 group catalogs gives results which are consistent with the mock
catalog tests. From all these results, we conclude that our group-finding
algorithm offers an effective yet simple way to identify galaxy groups in
photometric redshift catalogs.Comment: AJ accepte

Interplay between Kondo suppression and Lifshitz transitions in YbRhSi at high magnetic fields
We investigate the magnetic field dependent thermopower, thermal
conductivity, resistivity and Hall effect in the heavy fermion metal YbRh2Si2.
In contrast to reports on thermodynamic measurements, we find in total three
transitions at high fields, rather than a single one at 10 T. Using the Mott
formula together with renormalized band calculations, we identify Lifshitz
transitions as their origin. The predictions of the calculations show that all
experimental results rely on an interplay of a smooth suppression of the Kondo
effect and the spin splitting of the flat hybridized bands.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Possible experimental signature of octupole correlations in the 0 states of the actinides
= 0 states have been investigated in the actinide nucleus
Pu up to an excitation energy of 3 MeV with a high-resolution (p,t)
experiment at = 24 MeV. To test the recently proposed = 0
double-octupole structure, the phenomenological approach of the
spdf-interacting boson model has been chosen. In addition, the total 0
strength distribution and the strength fragmentation have been compared
to the model predictions as well as to the previously studied (p,t) reactions
in the actinides. The results suggest that the structure of the 0 states
in the actinides might be more complex than the usually discussed pairing
isomers. Instead, the octupole degree of freedom might contribute
significantly. The signature of two close-lying 0 states below the
2-quasiparticle energy is presented as a possible manifestation of strong
