    We present a synthesis method for communication protocols for active safety applications that satisfy certain formal specifications on quality of service requirements. The protocols are developed to provide reliable communication services for automobile active safety applications. The synthesis method transforms a specification into a distributed implementation of senders and receivers that together satisfy the quality of service requirements by transmitting messages over an unreliable medium. We develop a specification language and an execution model for the implementations, and demonstrate the viability of our method by developing a protocol for a traffic scenario in which a car runs a red light at a busy intersection

    PRISM-games: verification and strategy synthesis for stochastic multi-player games with multiple objectives

    PRISM-games is a tool for modelling, verification and strategy synthesis for stochastic multi-player games. These allow models to incorporate both probability, to represent uncertainty, unreliability or randomisation, and game-theoretic aspects, for systems where different entities have opposing objectives. Applications include autonomous transport, security protocols, energy management systems and many more. We provide a detailed overview of the PRISM-games tool, including its modelling and property specification formalisms, and its underlying architecture and implementation. In particular, we discuss some of its key features, which include multi-objective and compositional approaches to verification and strategy synthesis. We also discuss the scalability and efficiency of the tool and give an overview of some of the case studies to which it has been applied

    Fabrication of 3D Oriented MOF Micropatterns with Anisotropic Fluorescent Properties

    Published online: May 2, 2023Micropatterning crystalline materials with oriented pores is necessary for the fabrication of devices with anisotropic properties. Crystalline and porous metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are ideal materials as their chemical and structural mutability enables precise tuning of functional properties for applications ranging from microelectronics to photonics. Herein, a patternable oriented MOF film is designed: by using a photomask under X-ray exposure, the MOF film decomposes in the irradiated areas, remaining intact in the unexposed regions. The MOF film acts simultaneously as a resist and as functional porous material. While the heteroepitaxial growth from aligned Cu(OH)₂ nanobelts is used to deposit oriented MOF films, the sensitivity to radiation is achieved by integrating a brominated dicarboxylate ligand (Br₂BDC) into a copper-based MOF Cu₂L₂DABCO (DABCO = 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane; L = BDC/Br₂BDC). The lithographed samples act as diffraction gratings upon irradiation with a laser, thus confirming the quality of the extended MOF micropattern. Furthermore, the oriented MOF patterns are functionalized with fluorescent dyes. As a result, by rotating the polarization angle of the laser excitation, the alignment of the dye in the MOF is demonstrated. By controlling the functional response to light, this MOF patterning protocol can be used for the microfabrication of optical components for photonic devices.Miriam de J.     A rigid spatial structure represents a three-dimensional structural system in which the size of the singular planar elements is very small related to the whole construction. In this paper we will do investigations of quadrilateral patterns and we will propose an analytical method for designing structural rigid folding with quadrilateral patterns following geometrical surfaces of different topology. Our method offers folding structures with four fold lines meeting in one node which allows a simpler solution of join connections and assembling of the whole spatial and structural system. As the physical characteristics of paper can lead to all kinds of wrong conclusions it is necessary to use CAD tools in addition to scale models, where the entire folding element is reconstructed and its geometric characteristics are controlled. This kind of control reflects on the scale model. Models are then adjusted, examined and built to reach certain conclusions that are once more tested in CAD software

    Spatializing Planar Ornaments: Towards esthetic control in segmenting and building curved surfaces

    This paper gives insight into an ongoing funded research project dealing with architectural geometry and nonstandard fabrication methods. The innovative aspect of the project lies in the way it uses geometric ornamentation as a method to control the construction of double curved free-form surfaces out of planar building elements. After a short outline of the state of the art the paper gives an overview of the project's novel constructive and esthetic approach to the planarization of curved forms, discusses the implications of the approach and presents some preliminary results

    The purpose of this research is to explore ornamental patterns which can be used to enhance materials characteristics in low-cost building envelopes. We use standard building materials (sheets of cross-laminated timber) and develop a parametric design framework for the assembly. Existing rules of ornamental geometry are applied to a parametric controlled structural model so as to endow the building parts both with stability and aesthetics. The concepts of mass customization and “File to factory” support the digital fabrication of a non-repetitive pattern in façade construction and lead to reduced construction costs and building time

    Compositional strategy synthesis for stochastic games with multiple objectives

    Design of autonomous systems is facilitated by automatic synthesis of controllers from formal models and specifications. We focus on stochastic games, which can model interaction with an adverse environment, as well as probabilistic behaviour arising from uncertainties. Our contribution is twofold. First, we study long-run specifications expressed as quantitative multi-dimensional mean-payoff and ratio objectives. We then develop an algorithm to synthesise ε-optimal strategies for conjunctions of almost sure satisfaction for mean payoffs and ratio rewards (in general games) and Boolean combinations of expected mean-payoffs (in controllable multi-chain games). Second, we propose a compositional framework, together with assume-guarantee rules, which enables winning strategies synthesised for individual components to be composed to a winning strategy for the composed game. The framework applies to a broad class of properties, which also include expected total rewards, and has been implemented in the software tool PRISM-games
