QCD sum rules with finite masses
The concept of QCD sum rules is extended to bound states composed of
particles with finite mass such as scalar quarks or strange quarks. It turns
out that mass corrections become important in this context. The number of
relevant corrections is analyzed in a systematic discussion of the IR- and
UV-divergencies, leading in general to a finite number of corrections. The
results are demonstrated for a system of two massless quarks and two heavy
scalar quarks.Comment: 15 pages, including two pictures to be found in an extra file. Latex

A note on the appearance of self-dual Yang-Mills fields in integrable hierarchies
A family of mappings from the solution spaces of certain generalized
Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies to the self-dual Yang-Mills system on R^{2,2} is
described. This provides an extension of the well-known relationship between
self-dual connections and integrable hierarchies of AKNS and Drinfeld-Sokolov
type
Extensions of the matrix Gelfand-Dickey hierarchy from generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction
The matrix version of the -KdV hierarchy has been recently
treated as the reduced system arising in a Drinfeld-Sokolov type Hamiltonian
symmetry reduction applied to a Poisson submanifold in the dual of the Lie
algebra . Here a
series of extensions of this matrix Gelfand-Dickey system is derived by means
of a generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction defined for the Lie algebra
using the natural
embedding for any positive integer. The
hierarchies obtained admit a description in terms of a matrix
pseudo-differential operator comprising an -KdV type positive part and a
non-trivial negative part. This system has been investigated previously in the
case as a constrained KP system. In this paper the previous results are
considerably extended and a systematic study is presented on the basis of the
Drinfeld-Sokolov approach that has the advantage that it leads to local Poisson
brackets and makes clear the conformal (-algebra) structures related to
the KdV type hierarchies. Discrete reductions and modified versions of the
extended -KdV hierarchies are also discussed.Comment: 60 pages, plain TE
Generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov Hierarchies II: The Hamiltonian Structures
In this paper we examine the bi-Hamiltonian structure of the generalized
KdV-hierarchies. We verify that both Hamiltonian structures take the form of
Kirillov brackets on the Kac-Moody algebra, and that they define a coordinated
system. Classical extended conformal algebras are obtained from the second
Poisson bracket. In particular, we construct the algebras, first
discussed for the case and by A. Polyakov and M. Bershadsky.Comment: 41 page
Demonstrating the Feasibility of Line Intensity Mapping Using Mock Data of Galaxy Clustering from Simulations
Visbal & Loeb (2010) have shown that it is possible to measure the clustering
of galaxies by cross correlating the cumulative emission from two different
spectral lines which originate at the same redshift. Through this cross
correlation, one can study galaxies which are too faint to be individually
resolved. This technique, known as intensity mapping, is a promising probe of
the global properties of high redshift galaxies. Here, we test the feasibility
of such measurements with synthetic data generated from cosmological dark
matter simulations. We use a simple prescription for associating galaxies with
dark matter halos and create a realization of emitted radiation as a function
of angular position and wavelength over a patch of the sky. This is then used
to create synthetic data for two different hypothetical instruments, one aboard
the Space Infrared Telescope for Cosmology and Astrophysics (SPICA) and another
consisting of a pair of ground based radio telescopes designed to measure the
CO(1-0) and CO(2-1) emission lines. We find that the line cross power spectrum
can be measured accurately from the synthetic data with errors consistent with
the analytical prediction of Visbal & Loeb (2010). Removal of astronomical
backgrounds and masking bright line emission from foreground contaminating
galaxies do not prevent accurate cross power spectrum measurements.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, Submitted to JCA
Generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov Reductions and KdV Type Hierarchies
Generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov (DS) hierarchies are constructed through local
reductions of Hamiltonian flows generated by monodromy invariants on the dual
of a loop algebra. Following earlier work of De Groot et al, reductions based
upon graded regular elements of arbitrary Heisenberg subalgebras are
considered. We show that, in the case of the nontwisted loop algebra
, graded regular elements exist only in those Heisenberg
subalgebras which correspond either to the partitions of into the sum of
equal numbers or to equal numbers plus one . We prove that the
reduction belonging to the grade regular elements in the case yields
the matrix version of the Gelfand-Dickey -KdV hierarchy,
generalizing the scalar case considered by DS. The methods of DS are
utilized throughout the analysis, but formulating the reduction entirely within
the Hamiltonian framework provided by the classical r-matrix approach leads to
some simplifications even for .Comment: 43 page
Emergence of Bulk CsCl Structure in (CsCl)nCs+ Cluster Ions
The emergence of CsCl bulk structure in (CsCl)nCs+ cluster ions is
investigated using a mixed quantum-mechanical/semiempirical theoretical
approach. We find that rhombic dodecahedral fragments (with bulk CsCl symmetry)
are more stable than rock-salt fragments after the completion of the fifth
rhombic dodecahedral atomic shell. From this size (n=184) on, a new set of
magic numbers should appear in the experimental mass spectra. We also propose
another experimental test for this transition, which explicitely involves the
electronic structure of the cluster. Finally, we perform more detailed
calculations in the size range n=31--33, where recent experimental
investigations have found indications of the presence of rhombic dodecahedral
(CsCl)32Cs+ isomers in the cluster beams.Comment: LaTeX file. 6 pages and 4 pictures. Accepted for publication in Phys.

Exploring morphological correlations among H2CO, 12CO, MSX and continuum mappings
There are relatively few H2CO mappings of large-area giant molecular cloud
(GMCs). H2CO absorption lines are good tracers for low-temperature molecular
clouds towards star formation regions. Thus, the aim of the study was to
identify H2CO distributions in ambient molecular clouds. We investigated
morphologic relations among 6-cm continuum brightness temperature (CBT) data
and H2CO (111-110; Nanshan 25-m radio telescope), 12CO (1--0; 1.2-m CfA
telescope) and midcourse space experiment (MSX) data, and considered the impact
of background components on foreground clouds. We report simultaneous 6-cm H2CO
absorption lines and H110\alpha radio recombination line observations and give
several large-area mappings at 4.8 GHz toward W49 (50'\times50'), W3
(70'\times90'), DR21/W75 (60'\times90') and NGC2024/NGC2023 (50'\times100')
GMCs. By superimposing H2CO and 12CO contours onto the MSX color map, we can
compare correlations. The resolution for H2CO, 12CO and MSX data was about 10',
8' and 18.3", respectively. Comparison of H2CO and 12CO contours, 8.28-\mu m
MSX colorscale and CBT data revealed great morphological correlation in the
large area, although there are some discrepancies between 12CO and H2CO peaks
in small areas. The NGC2024/NGC2023 GMC is a large area of HII regions with a
high CBT, but a H2CO cloud to the north is possible against the cosmic
microwave background. A statistical diagram shows that 85.21% of H2CO
absorption lines are distributed in the intensity range from -1.0 to 0 Jy and
the \Delta V range from 1.206 to 5 km/s.Comment: 18 pages, 22 figures, 5 tables. Accepted to be published in

Conditional expression of apical membrane antigen 1 in Plasmodium falciparum shows it is required for erythrocyte invasion by merozoites
Malaria is caused by obligate intracellular parasites, of which Plasmodium falciparum is the most lethal species. In humans, P. falciparum merozoites (invasive forms of the parasite) employ a host of parasite proteins to rapidly invade erythrocytes. One of these is the P. falciparum apical membrane antigen 1 (PfAMA1) which forms a complex with rhoptry neck proteins at the tight junction. Here, we have placed the Pfama1 gene under conditional control using dimerizable Cre recombinase (DiCre) in P. falciparum. DiCre‐mediated excision of the loxP‐flanked Pfama1 gene results in approximately 80% decreased expression of the protein within one intraerythrocytic growth cycle. This reduces growth by 40%, due to decreased invasion efficiency characterized by a post‐invasion defect in sealing of the parasitophorous vacuole. These results show that PfAMA1 is an essential protein for merozoite invasion in P. falciparum and either directly or indirectly plays a role in resealing of the red blood cell at the posterior end of the invasion event.Alan Yap, Mauro F.
