How to make Dupire's local volatility work with jumps

There are several (mathematical) reasons why Dupire's formula fails in the non-diffusion setting. And yet, in practice, ad-hoc preconditioning of the option data works reasonably well. In this note we attempt to explain why. In particular, we propose a regularization procedure of the option data so that Dupire's local vol diffusion process recreates the correct option prices, even in manifest presence of jumps

Arthroscopic pull-through suture for tibial eminence avulsion fracture: a case series

    Get PDF
Fractures of the tibial eminence is commonly reported in adolescents and adults, due to traffic accident, sports injury, or any other mechanism. Case 1: a 12-year-old male complained knee pain after a traffic accident 2 months prior to visit. Case 2: a 31-year-old female complained knee pain which worsened with long-distance walking and sitting, after falling on her knees one month prior to visit. Case 3: a 27-year-old female complained a worsening knee pain after traffic accident 12 years ago. Although it has been extensively studied, controversies regarding the best fixation method still exist. Open technique was once popular, but some morbidity has been associated with this method. Therefore, a new approach using arthroscopic pull-through suture technique, albeit technically challenging, is currently being advocated as a treatment option for such fractures. The result in our series confirm that all of 3 patients have a good result based on international knee documentation committee (IKDC) scoring for evaluation the treatment, hence support the use of this novel technique for the patients with tibial eminence avulsion fracture

Investigations on the Peach 4 Debrite, a Late Pleistocene Mass Movement on the Northwest British Continental Margin

    Get PDF
The Peach 4 debrite is the most recent in a series of large scale Pleistocene MTDs within the Barra fan on the northwest British continental margin. Geophysical data indicate that Peach 4 was formed through a combination of blocky and muddy debris flows and affects an area of ~ 700 km2. BGS core sample 56 -10 36, located directly over the Peach 4 debrite, provides a minimum age of 14.68 ka cal BP for the last major failure. An upwards fining turbidite sequence in BGS core sample 56 -10 239 is associ-ated with increased As and S concentrations, indicators of diagenetic pyrite which forms under anoxic conditions. It is proposed that As and S concentrations may pro-vide a method of distinguishing between contourite and turbidite sedimentation, though further research is required

Falling through the social safety net? Analysing non‐take‐up of minimum income benefit and monetary social assistance in Austria

    Get PDF
Non‐take‐up of means tested benefits is a widespread phenomenon in European welfare states. The paper assesses whether the reform that replaced the monetary social assistance benefit by the minimum income benefit in Austria in 2010/11 has succeeded in increasing take up rates. We use EU‐SILC register data together with the tax‐benefit microsimulation model EUROMOD/SORESI. The results show that the reform led to a significant decrease of non‐take‐up from 53 to 30% in terms of the number of households and from 51 to 30% in terms of expenditure. Following the three‐t's (threshold, trigger, and trade‐off) introduced by Van Oorschot, estimates of a two‐stage Heckman selection model as well as expert interviews indicate that the taken measures include both threshold and trade‐off characteristics. Elements such as the higher degree of anonymity within the claiming process, the provision of health insurance, binding minimum standards, the limitation of the maintenance obligations, new regulations related to the liquidation of wealth, as well as the general coverage of the benefit reform in the media and in public discussions led to an improved access to the benefit

The correlation of Singh index and cortical thickness index toward bone mineral density in women older than 60 years old with femoral neck fracture

    Get PDF
Background: Femoral neck fracture is one of the most common fractures in elderly. Proximal femur fracture in elderly patients is considered a severe morbidity which has a negative impact on the life expectancy and quality of life. Aim of this study was to find the correlation of cortical thickness index (CTI) and SI toward bone density (BMD) in female patients over 60 years of age with femoral neck fracture. Methods: This is an observational cross-sectional study. Subjects were selected from Sanglah general hospital outpatient department, Denpasar, Bali during the period October 2020 to January 2021 by inclusion requirements and then randomized into two groups. Data were taken through history taking, physical examination as well as supporting investigations such as contralateral hip joint radiograph and BMD measurements. Statistical analysis was done from those data. Results: It has been obtained that there was a positive correlation of Singh index (SI) and CTI toward BMD. The correlation coefficient (r) between SI and BMD was 0.874 (p=0.000). The r between CTI and BMD was 0.854 (p=0.000). Both variables were significant. Conclusions: There were significantly strong correlations between SI and BMD (r=0.874, p=0.00), also CTI and BMD (r=0.854, p=0.00) in female patients over 60 years of age with femoral neck fracture

The Vienna history Wiki: a collaborative knowledge platform for the city of Vienna

    Get PDF
The Vienna City Archive and the Vienna City Library have joined forces with several other institutions in Vienna, Austria to create the "Wien Geschichte Wiki" (Vienna History Wiki), a knowledge platform for the history of Vienna with more than 34,000 articles and 120,000 visits per month. The wiki is powered by Semantic MediaWiki and serves not only as an online encyclopedia, based on a digitized printed publication for everybody to use and contribute to, but also as a central knowledge base for several administrative departments of the city administration. In a peer-review process, wiki edits are checked before they become visible. The paper highlights the unique aspects of the Vienna History Wiki related to content creation, governance structures and technology choices. A usage log analysis and an online survey have been carried out to gain first insights after six months of operation
