The new compounds of salicylic acid derivatives, 2- (3- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoic acid and 2- (4- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoic acid were synthesized to generate better analgesic activity and lesser stomach irritation of salicylic acid. The 2- (4- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoic acid and 2- (3- (chloromethyl) benzoiloksi) benzoic acid were synthesized by Schotten-Baumann acylation process. In this study, analgesic activity was tested by plantar test method. The compounds were administered to the tested animals at 12.5; 25; 50; 100; and 200 mg / kg BW of doses. Analgesic activity was determined by the response time of rat to pain induced by infra red. The percentage of pain hindrance was calculated from the mean of response time to pain. Pain hindrance percentage were shown as: 74.28%; 105.58%; 110.58%; 115.29%; and 175.87% after administration of 2- (4- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoic acid at doses of 12.5; 25; 50; 100; and 200 mg / kg. The pain hindrance percentage after administration of 2- (3- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoaic acid, were 85.30%; 92.48%; 124.96%; 180.36%; and 208.01% respective to the doses of 12.5; 25; 50; 100; and 200 mg / kg. Five doses of acetyl salicylic acid ranged from 12.5 mg / kg to 200 mg / kg showed pain hindrance percentage as: 26%; 34.34%; 45.68%; 60.38%; and 114.12%. This study indicated that 2- (3- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoic acid and 2- (4- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoic acid generated higher analgesic activity than acetyl salicylic acid

Monascus-fermented product has been used traditionally in Asian countries as food and medicine. Traditionally, Monascus-fermented rice was produced with cultivate Monascus sp. on steamed rice medium. During fermentation, Monascus sp. produce various metabolites. Beside pigments, Monascus sp. also produces Monacolin K, monascin, dimerumic acid, etc which possess positive health impacts. Recent studies reported that Monascus sp. could grow on non rice medium i.e. soybean, dioscorea, adlay etc. This paper is a review of bioactivities of Monascus-fermented products including anti-inflammatory, anti hypercholesterolemic, anti hyperlipidemia, anti hypertensive, antioxidant and anti diabetes activities

Antidiabetic Properties of Andrographis Paniculata Nees and Eugenia Polyantha Wight Leaves in Wistar Rats by Oral Glucose Tolerance Test

Ethanol and water extraet of Andrographis paniculata Nees, and ethanol extract of Eugenia polyantba Wight leaves were evaluated for their hypoglycemic effects in healthyalbino Wistar rats by oral glucose tolerance test. Both ethanol extract of Euginta polyantba (200 mg/kg bw) and water extract of Andrographis paniculata (200 mglkg bw) showed significant increased of blood glucose level at T30 and T60 (T30" 30 minutes after glucose loading or 60 minutes after drugs administration, T60 '" 60 minutes after glucose loading or 90 minutes after drugs administration). Meanwhile, ethanol extraet of Andrographis paniculata (200 mglkg bw) showed significant increased in blood glucose level up to T90. Therefore, water extract of Andrographis paniculata (200 mg/kg bb) was considered faster to lower blood glucose level than the ethanol extraet at the same dose of administration. Furthermore, water extract of Andrographis paniculata and Eugirua polyantba leaves could be selected for further research as they reduce the blood glucose level steadily and does not cause hypoglycemia such as in glibenclamide
