New secondary batteries utilizing electronically conductive polymer cathodes

    Get PDF
The objectives are to optimize the transport rates in electronically conductive polypyrrole films by controlling the morphology of the film and to assess the utility of these films as cathodes in a lithium/polypyrrole secondary battery. During this research period, a better understanding was gained of the fundamental electrochemical switching processes within the polypyrrole film. Three publications were submitted based on the work completed

A Survey of the Illumination Intensities in the Library, Student Study Rooms, and Class Rooms of Prairie View State Normal and Industrial College

    Get PDF
It is a recognized fact that adequate lighting for student study rooms is an extremely important phase of the physical set-up of any institution of learning. The purpose of this survey was to make a thorough investigation of lighting intensities now available in all rooms used for study and recitation at Prairie View State College, to record those intensities in such form as to permit of comparison with standards of the IES and to make recommendations in the instances where the illumination intensities were abnormal. A study of available literature reveals that the investigation is the first of its kind at the school. Since there is a distinct relationship between study room lighting and student grades, the author hopes that this study will serve as a foundation for subsequent yearly investigations directed toward the maintenance of proper lighting conditions

Development of a Public Relations Program for the Newman Community Unit School District #303

Public relations is an important part of any school district\u27s total program. To be most effective, a written, planned public relations program should be used. This field experience deals with the development of a written, planned public relations program for the Newman Community Unit School District #303 in Newman, Illinois. The author attempts to provide information that could be used by other educators who wish to develop a public relations program for their school district. Reasons why educators must provide information about the schools to the public and involve the public with the schools are discussed. The reasons for developing a public relations program for the Newman School District\u27s and background information concerning the New School District and the author are presented. Several definitions of school public relations are also included. A review of current educational literature is contained in this field experience. Reasons why schools should be concerned about public relations, methods of providing information to the various publics, and ways to receive feedback from these publics are discussed. Special areas of school public relations are also considered. Sources of current public relations information such as the National School Public Relations Association are cited. A survey developed by the author to determine the public relations programs and activities being conducted by East Central Illinois school districts with enrollments of less than 2,000 students is presented. This presentation includes the survey instrument, the survey results, and a list of the school districts surveyed. A public relations program for the Newman District is developed in this field experience. This program includes objectives, a schedule of public relations activities, and public relations responsibilities. A summary and recommendations of the author conclude this paper. The recommendations include general recommendations concerning public relations and specific recommendations concerning the Newman public relations program

New Secondary Batteries Using Electronically Conductive Polymer Cathodes

    Get PDF
A Li/Polypyrrole secondary battery was designed and built, and the effect of controlling the morphology of the polymer on enhancement of counterion diffusion in the polymer phase was explored. The experimental work was done at Colorado State University, while the mathematical modeling of the battery was done at Texas A and M University. Manuscripts and publications resulting from the project are listed

The objectives of this project are to optimize the transport rates in electronically conductive polypyrrole films by controlling the morphology of the film and to assess the utility of these films as cathodes in a lithium/polypyrrole secondary battery. During this research period, progress has been made in improving the charge transport rate of the supermolecular-engineered polypyrrole electrode by eliminating the polypyrrole baselayer that hampered earlier work. Also, the fibril density of the polypyrrole electrode was increased, providing more electroactive sites per unit area
