    BDTS: Blockchain-based Data Trading System

    Trading data through blockchain platforms is hard to achieve \textit{fair exchange}. Reasons come from two folds: Firstly, guaranteeing fairness between sellers and consumers is a challenging task as the deception of any participating parties is risk-free. This leads to the second issue where judging the behavior of data executors (such as cloud service providers) among distrustful parties is impractical in the context of traditional trading protocols. To fill the gaps, in this paper, we present a \underline{b}lockchain-based \underline{d}ata \underline{t}rading \underline{s}ystem, named BDTS. BDTS implements a fair-exchange protocol in which benign behaviors can get rewarded while dishonest behaviors will be punished. Our scheme requires the seller to provide consumers with the correct encryption keys for proper execution and encourage a rational data executor to behave faithfully for maximum benefits from rewards. We analyze the strategies of consumers, sellers, and dealers in the trading game and point out that everyone should be honest about their interests so that the game will reach Nash equilibrium.     Propagation and Wireless Channel Modeling Development on Wide-Sense Vehicle-to-X Communications

    The need for improving the safety and the efficiency of transportation systems has become of extreme importance. In this regard, the concept of vehicle-to-X (V2X) communication has been introduced with the purpose of providing wireless communication technology in vehicular networks. Not like the traditional views, the wide-sense V2X (WSV2X) communications in this paper are defined by including not only vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications but also train-to-X (T2X) communications constituted of train-to-train (T2T) and train-to-infrastructure (T2I) communications. All the information related to the wide-sense V2X channels, such as the standardization, scenarios, characters, and modeling philosophies, is organized and summarized to form the comprehensive understanding of the development of the WSV2X channels

    Transcriptional response provides insights into the effect of chronic polystyrene nanoplastic exposure on Daphnia pulex

    Abstract(#br)Nanoplastic pollution is widespread and persistent across global water systems and can cause a negative effect on aquatic organisms, especially the zooplankter which is the keystone of the food chain. The present study uses RNA sequencing to assess the global change in gene expression caused by 21 days of exposure to 75 nm polystyrene (PS) nanoplastics on Daphnia pulex , a model organism for ecotoxicity . With the threshold value at P value 2, 244 differentially expressed genes were obtained. Combined with real-time PCR validation of several selected genes, our results indicated that a distinct expression profile of key genes, including downregulated trehalose transporter , trehalose 6-phosphate synthase/phosphatase, chitinase and cathepsin-L as well as upregulated doublesex 1 and doublesex and mab-3 related transcription factor-like protein, contributed to the toxic effects of chronic nanoplastic exposure on Daphnia , such as slowed growth, subdued reproductive ability and reproductive pattern shifting. Our study also showed that chronic exposure to nanoplastic changed the sex ratio of D. pulex neonates. By integrating the gene expression pattern in an important model organism, this study gained insight into the molecular mechanisms of the toxic effect of chronic PS nanoplastic exposure on D. pulex , which may also extend to other nanoplastics or aquatic animals

    Spatial analysis of malaria in Anhui province, China

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Malaria has re-emerged in Anhui Province, China, and this province was the most seriously affected by malaria during 2005–2006. It is necessary to understand the spatial distribution of malaria cases and to identify highly endemic areas for future public health planning and resource allocation in Anhui Province.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The annual average incidence at the county level was calculated using malaria cases reported between 2000 and 2006 in Anhui Province. GIS-based spatial analyses were conducted to detect spatial distribution and clustering of malaria incidence at the county level.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The spatial distribution of malaria cases in Anhui Province from 2000 to 2006 was mapped at the county level to show crude incidence, excess hazard and spatial smoothed incidence. Spatial cluster analysis suggested 10 and 24 counties were at increased risk for malaria (<it>P </it>< 0.001) with the maximum spatial cluster sizes at < 50% and < 25% of the total population, respectively.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The application of GIS, together with spatial statistical techniques, provide a means to quantify explicit malaria risks and to further identify environmental factors responsible for the re-emerged malaria risks. Future public health planning and resource allocation in Anhui Province should be focused on the maximum spatial cluster region.</p

    Exposure time relevance of response to nitrite exposure: Insight from transcriptional responses of immune and antioxidant defense in the crayfish, Procambarus clarkii

    Abstract(#br)To understand the toxic effects of nitrite exposure on crayfish, expression of genes involved in the immune system, the antioxidant defense, and the heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) was measured after 12, 24, and 48 h of different nitrite concentrations exposure in the hepatopancreas and hemocytes of Procambarus clarkii . Nitrite exposure up-regulated mRNA levels of cytoplasmic Mn superoxide dismutase (cMn-SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and glutathione-S-transferase (GST), after 24 h nitrite exposure. At 48 h, nitrite exposure decreased the mRNA levels of mitochondrial MnSOD (mMn-SOD), CAT, and GPx. High concentrations of nitrite at 48 h of exposure decreased expression of β-1,3-glucan-bingding protein in the hepatopancreas, and lysozyme expression in hemocytes. Nitrite exposure caused little effect on the heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) in hemocytes. Through overall clustering analysis, we found that 24 h of nitrite exposure caused stronger transcriptional responses. Our study indicated that the response of P. clarkii to acute nitrite exposure was exposure time-dependent. These results will help to understand the dynamic response pattern of crustaceans to nitrite pollution, and improve our understanding of the toxicological mechanisms of nitrite in crustaceans

    Quantum storage of entangled photons at telecom wavelengths in a crystal

    The quantum internet -- in synergy with the internet that we use today -- promises an enabling platform for next-generation information processing, including exponentially speed-up distributed computation, secure communication, and high-precision metrology. The key ingredients for realizing such a global network are the distribution and storage of quantum entanglement. As quantum networks are likely to be based on existing fibre networks, telecom-wavelength entangled photons and corresponding quantum memories are of central interest. Recently, 167Er3+{\rm ^{167}Er^{3+}} ions have been identified as a promising candidate for an efficient, broadband quantum memory at telecom wavelength. However, to date, no storage of entangled photons, the crucial step of quantum memory using these ions, has been reported. Here, we demonstrate the storage and recall of the entangled state of two telecom photons generated from an integrated photonic chip based on silicon nitride. Combining the natural narrow linewidth of the entangled photons and long storage time of 167Er3+{\rm ^{167}Er^{3+}} ions, we achieve storage time of 400 ns, more than one order of magnitude longer than in previous works. Successful storage of entanglement in the crystal is certified by a violation of an entanglement witness by more than 12 standard deviations (-0.161 ±\pm 0.012) at 400 ns storage time. These results pave the way for realizing quantum networks based on solid-state devices.Comment: 15 pages, 11 figure

    Potential Diagnostic Applications of Multi-Delay Arterial Spin Labeling in Early Alzheimer’s Disease: The Chinese Imaging, Biomarkers, and Lifestyle Study

    Background: Cerebral blood flow (CBF) alterations are involved in the onset and progression of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and can be a potential biomarker. However, CBF measured by single-delay arterial spin labeling (ASL) for discrimination of mild cognitive impairment (MCI, an early stage of AD) was lack of accuracy. Multi-delay ASL can not only provide CBF quantification but also provide arterial transit time (ATT). Unfortunately, the technique was scarcely applied to the diagnosis of AD. Here, we detected the utility of ASL with 1-delay and 7-delay in ten regions of interest (ROIs) to identify MCI and AD. Materials and Methods: Pseudocontinuous ASL (pCASL) MRI was acquired on a 3T GE scanner in adults from the Chinese Imaging, Biomarkers, and Lifestyle (CIBL) Study of AD cohort, including 26 normal cognition (NC), 37 MCI, and 39 AD. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses with 1-delay and 7-delay ASL were performed for the identification of MCI and AD. The DeLong test was used to compare ROC curves. Results: For CBF of 1-delay or 7-delay the AUCs showed moderate-high performance for the AD/NC and AD/MCI comparisons (AUC = 0.83∼0.96) (p 0.05). Conclusion: The combination of CBF and ATT with 7-delay ASL showed higher performance for identification of MCI than CBF of 1-delay, when adding to sex, age, APOE ε4 carrier status, and education years, the diagnostic performance was further increased, presenting a potential imaging biomarker in early AD
