    The Effect of Parental Involvement and Socioeconomic Status on Junior School Studentsā€™ Academic Achievement and School Behavior in China

    A survey was conducted on 19,487 Chinese junior school students to elucidate the moderating role of socioeconomic status (SES) in the relationship between parental involvement (i.e., home-based involvement and academic socialization) and junior school studentsā€™ performance in school (i.e., academic achievement and school behavior). The data includes 10,042 males and 9,445 females (mean age = 14.52, SD = 1.24). It was taken from the 2013ā€“2014 Chinese Educational Panel Survey (CEPS), that was administrated by the National Survey Research Center at Renmin University of China. The results demonstrate that SES negatively moderates both the relationship between academic socialization and academic achievement, and the relationship between home-based involvement and school behavior. Findings imply that parental involvement activities are highly beneficial for junior school students in families with low SES. Academic socialization is generally associated with academic success, whereas home-based involvement closely relates to school behavior. Future home-based interventions can be developed to promote parental involvement activities in low-SES families. The results also showed important implications for the development of family education in China

    Torsional vibration solution of tapered pile considering stress diffusion effect of pile end soil

    Based on the torsional plane strain model and tapered fictitious soil pile model, the torsional vibration characteristics of tapered pile considering stress diffusion effect of pile end soil is investigated theoretically. Considering the coupling conditions of pile-soil system, the torsional impedance at the tapered pile head is obtained by means of Laplace transform and impedance transfer method. A parametric study is performed, the rationality of the tapered fictitious soil model is verified and the influence of the cone angle of tapered fictitious soil pile on the torsional vibration characteristics of tapered pile embedded in layered soil is studied. The results show that: the cone angle of tapered fictitious soil pile has obvious effect on the torsional vibration characteristics of tapered pile with the shorter length

    Axillary lymph node dissection combined with radiotherapy for trichilemmal carcinoma with giant lymph node metastasis: A case report

    BackgroundTrichilemmal carcinoma (TC) is a rare malignancy with a poor outcome if local recurrence and distant metastasis occur. There is no treatment strategy for such a disease.Case presentationWe reported a complicated case of TC in the right lower abdomen with ipsilateral axillary and inguinal lymph node metastases. After surgery and radiotherapy, there has been no recurrence or metastasis in the follow-up to date.ConclusionWe believe that even though considered a tumor of low malignant potential, TC still has the risk of recurrence and metastasis, and the lymph node status should be identified if a high suspicion or diagnosis is made. Regional lymph node dissection followed by local radiotherapy is recommended as the optimal treatment strategy for patients with lymph node metastases of TC. Screening for metastasis and close follow-up are indispensable for improving prognosis

    Bifurcation and pattern dynamics in the nutrient-plankton network

    This paper used a Holling-IV nutrient-plankton model with a network to describe algae's spatial and temporal distribution and variation in a specific sea area. The stability and bifurcation of the nonlinear dynamic model of harmful algal blooms (HABs) were analyzed using the nonlinear dynamic theory and de-eutrophication's effect on algae's nonlinear dynamic behavior. The conditions for equilibrium points (local and global), saddle-node, transcritical, Hopf-Andronov and Bogdanov-Takens (B-T) bifurcation were obtained. The stability of the limit cycle was then judged and the rich and complex phenomenon was obtained by numerical simulations, which revealed the robustness of the nutrient-plankton system by switching between nodes. Also, these results show the relationship between HABs and bifurcation, which has important guiding significance for solving the environmental problems of HABs caused by the abnormal increase of phytoplankton

    Hopf bifurcation and patterns in a modified SIR model

    Infectious diseases have constantly threatened human safety because the diffusion of the susceptible and infected may make more individuals infected and even die. In this paper, a modified SIR model with both external stimulus and diffusion is considered to illustrate the dynamical mechanism of the periodic outbreak and pattern formation. Firstly, we propose a modified SIR model based on the propagation behaviour of infectious diseases to show the effects of the different parameters and diffusion on the outbreak. The Hopf bifurcation and multiscale methods are performed to analyze the stability of this model, which explains the dynamical mechanism of the periodic outbreak. Then, the pattern formation and Turing instability are discussed through comparison principles to reveal the role of periodic disturbances and diffusion in selecting pattern formation. Also, we find rich patterns that may occur when the frequency modulation is close to the intrinsic frequency. Finally, our theoretical results are verified by numerical simulation

    Effect of route of delivery on heterologous protection against HCV induced by an adenovirus vector carrying HCV structural genes

    BACKGROUND: An effective vaccine and new therapeutic methods for hepatitis C virus (HCV) are needed, and a potent HCV vaccine must induce robust and sustained cellular-mediated immunity (CMI). Research has indicated that adenoviral and vaccinia vectors may have the ability to elicit strong B and T cell immune responses to target antigens. RESULTS: A recombinant replication-defective adenovirus serotype 5 (rAd5) vector, rAd5-CE1E2, and a recombinant Tian Tan vaccinia vector, rTTV-CE1E2, were constructed to express the HCV CE1E2 gene (1-746 amino acid HCV 1b subtype). Mice were prime-immunised with rAd5-CE1E2 delivered via intramuscular injection (i.m.), intranasal injection (i.n.), or intradermal injection (i.d.) and boosted using a different combination of injection routes. CMI was evaluated via IFN-Ī³ ELISPOT and ICS 2 weeks after immunisation, or 16 weeks after boost for long-term responses. The humoral response was analysed by ELISA. With the exception of priming by i.n. injection, a robust CMI response against multiple HCV antigens (core, E1, E2) was elicited and remained at a high level for a long period (16 weeks post-vaccination) in mice. However, i.n. priming elicited the highest anti-core antibody levels. Priming with i.d. rAd5-CE1E2 and boosting with i.d. rTTV-CE1E2 carried out simultaneously enhanced CMI and the humoral immune response, compared to the homologous rAd5-CE1E2 immune groups. All regimens demonstrated equivalent cross-protective potency in a heterologous surrogate challenge assay based on a recombinant HCV (JFH1, 2a) vaccinia virus. CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that a rAd5-CE1E2-based HCV vaccine would be capable of eliciting an effective immune response and cross-protection. These findings have important implications for the development of T cell-based HCV vaccine candidates

    Performance analysis of a two-level polling control system based on LSTM and attention mechanism for wireless sensor networks

    A continuous-time exhaustive-limited (K = 2) two-level polling control system is proposed to address the needs of increasing network scale, service volume and network performance prediction in the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network and an attention mechanism is used for its predictive analysis. First, the central site uses the exhaustive service policy and the common site uses the Limited K = 2 service policy to establish a continuous-time exhaustive-limited (K = 2) two-level polling control system. Second, the exact expressions for the average queue length, average delay and cycle period are derived using probability generating functions and Markov chains and the MATLAB simulation experiment. Finally, the LSTM neural network and an attention mechanism model is constructed for prediction. The experimental results show that the theoretical and simulated values basically match, verifying the rationality of the theoretical analysis. Not only does it differentiate priorities to ensure that the central site receives a quality service and to ensure fairness to the common site, but it also improves performance by 7.3 and 12.2%, respectively, compared with the one-level exhaustive service and the one-level limited K = 2 service; compared with the two-level gated- exhaustive service model, the central site length and delay of this model are smaller than the length and delay of the gated- exhaustive service, indicating a higher priority for this model. Compared with the exhaustive-limited K = 1 two-level model, it increases the number of information packets sent at once and has better latency performance, providing a stable and reliable guarantee for wireless network services with high latency requirements. Following on from this, a fast evaluation method is proposed: Neural network prediction, which can accurately predict system performance as the system size increases and simplify calculations
