Fault Identification and Location for Distribution Network with Distributed Generations

    Get PDF
Power distribution networks with distributed generations may experience faults. It is essential to promptly locate the fault for fast repair and restoration. This paper presents a novel method for identifying the faulted section and accurate location of faults that occur on power distribution grid. Appropriate matrices are set up to represent meter locations on the grid and the topology of the grid. The voltage and current measurements obtained are utilized to decide the fault sections. Then fault location is determined by solving equations that link measurements and fault locations through bus impedance matrix. The method is applicable to both single and simultaneous, multiple faults that may occur on unbalanced, meshed distribution networks with distributed generations

Fast Video Retrieval via the Statistics of Motion

[[abstract]]Due to the popularity of the Internet and the powerful computing capability of computers, efficient processing/retrieval of multimedia data has become an important issue. In this paper, we propose a fast video retrieval algorithm that bases its search core on the statistics of object motion. The algorithm starts with extracting object motions from a shot and then transform/quantize them into the form of probability distributions. By choosing the shot that has the largest entropy value among the constituent shots of an unknown query video clip, we execute the first stage video search.By comparing two shots with different lengths, their corresponding motion probability distributions are compared by a discrete Bhattacharyya distance which is designed to measure the similarity between any two distribution functions. In the second stage, we add an adjacent shot(either preceding or subsequent) to perform a finer comparison. Experimental results demonstrate that our fast video retrieval algorithm is powerful in terms of accuracy and efficiency.[[fileno]]2030144030026[[department]]電機工程學

BUILDING A FACEBOOK EMBEDDED PICTURE BOOK DESIGN LEARNING PLATFORM AND UNDERSTANDING ITS USE INTENTIONS

Electronic reading is a process of digitalizing not only the content and reading devices but also the publication and distribution of books. With the development of e-books, more attention has been paid to use of e-books in education. Through online communities and innovative learning models, digital content providers can offer plenty of resources to help learners at all levels and promote the effectiveness of their self-regulated learning. The objective of this study is to build a cloud-based learning platform that integrates designs of electronic picture books and the social functions of Facebook. Students of multimedia design can upload their works to this platform and learn from each other through idea sharing and discussion. This platform is expected to help students create works with better quality and more creativity. Besides, this study also investigates the learning behavior and use intentions of students on this platform based on “Social Interaction Theory” and “Uses and Gratifications Theory”. This study attempts to capture students’ needs and how they are related to their learning outcomes. Results of this study contribute to the development of cloud-based learning and can be a reference for design of learning materials and improvement of teaching models

Executable Knowledge Base for Virtual Chat System

A virtual chat system enables the end user to interact with knowledge base by chatting with a virtual assistant. Besides knowledge article, a virtual assistant can also perform automation flows such as restart a virtual machine, reset the password for a PC. In many virtual chat systems, AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language) is used to train the virtual agent to interact with human beings. It is also possible to integrate knowledge system and automation flow system with AIML interpreter to quickly empower virtual assistances with various domain knowledge. The disclosure provides a method to convert or link an automation flow to virtual agent understandable and executable format and enable them to perform and interact seamlessly with the users, the knowledge base system and the automation system
