A detailed comparison of two species in the genus Potamanthus Pictet, 1843 from China (Ephemeroptera, Potamanthidae)
Photographs and details of structures of two Potamanthus species, P. huoshanensis Wu, 1987 and P. luteus (Linnaeus, 1767), are presented for the first time. Here, based upon Chinese specimens of those species, all external structures are illustrated digitally and compared. The results and photos clearly show that the adults of the two species are different in wing color and genitalia shape, and that their nymphs have different mandibular tusks and forelegs. Specifically, P. luteus has a more colorful body and wings, longer penes and nymphal mandibular tusks but shorter foretarsi than those of P. huoshanensis. This comparison not only confirms the differences between these two similar species, but also supports the updated generic delineations of Potamanthus and Potamanthodes
Discovery of six high-redshift quasars with the Lijiang 2.4m telescope and the Multiple Mirror Telescope
Quasars with redshifts greater than 4 are rare, and can be used to probe the
structure and evolution of the early universe. Here we report the discovery of
six new quasars with -band magnitudes brighter than 19.5 and redshifts
between 2.4 and 4.6 from the YFOSC spectroscopy of the Lijiang 2.4m telescope
in February, 2012. These quasars are in the list of quasar candidates
selected by using our proposed criterion and the photometric redshift
estimations from the SDSS optical and UKIDSS near-IR photometric data. Nine
candidates were observed by YFOSC, and five among six new quasars were
identified as quasars. One of the other three objects was identified as
a star and the other two were unidentified due to the lower signal-to-noise
ratio of their spectra. This is the first time that quasars have been
discovered using a telescope in China. Thanks to the Chinese Telescope Access
Program (TAP), the redshift of 4.6 for one of these quasars was confirmed by
the Multiple Mirror Telescope (MMT) Red Channel spectroscopy. The continuum and
emission line properties of these six quasars, as well as their central black
hole masses and Eddington ratios, were obtained.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, published in Research in Astronomy and

Molecular environment of the thermal composite supernova remnant G352.70.1
Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs) play an important role in our
understanding of supernovae and their feedback on the interstellar environment.
SNR G352.70.1 is special for its thermal composite morphology and
double-ring structure. We have performed spectroscopic mapping in CO and
CO -1 lines toward G352.70.1 with the Atacama Pathfinder
Experiment telescope. Broad CO lines are found in the northeastern ring
at a local-standard-of-rest velocity range of - km s,
suggesting that the remnant is interacting with molecular clouds (MCs) at
km s. Thus, we adopt a distance of kpc for this
SNR. The momentum and kinetic energy of the shocked gas along the line of sight
are estimated to be km s and erg,
respectively. We also find an expanding structure around the remnant, which is
possibly related to the wind-blown bubble of the progenitor star. From the
Fermi-LAT data in an energy range of 0.1-500 GeV, we find no gamma-ray
counterparts of G352.70.1.Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in Ap
Inflammasomes and Fibrosis
Fibrosis is the final common pathway of inflammatory diseases in various organs. The inflammasomes play an important role in the progression of fibrosis as innate immune receptors. There are four main members of the inflammasomes, such as NOD-like receptor protein 1 (NLRP1), NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3), NOD-like receptor C4 (NLRC4), and absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2), among which NLRP3 inflammasome is the most studied. NLRP3 inflammasome is typically composed of NLRP3, ASC and pro-caspase-1. The activation of inflammasome involves both “classical” and “non-classical” pathways and the former pathway is better understood. The “classical” activation pathway of inflammasome is that the backbone protein is activated by endogenous/exogenous stimulation, leading to inflammasome assembly. After the formation of “classic” inflammasome, pro-caspase-1 could self-activate. Caspase-1 cleaves cytokine precursors into mature cytokines, which are secreted extracellularly. At present, the “non-classical” activation pathway of inflammasome has not formed a unified model for activation process. This article reviews the role of NLRP1, NLRP3, NLRC4, AIM2 inflammasome, Caspase-1, IL-1β, IL-18 and IL-33 in the fibrogenesis
SDSS J163459.82+204936.0: A Ringed Infrared-Luminous Quasar with Outflows in both Absorption and Emission Lines
SDSS J1634+2049 is a local (z = 0.1293) infrared-luminous quasar with LIR=
10^11.91 Lsun. We present a detailed multiwavelength study of both the host
galaxy and the nucleus. The host galaxy demonstrates violent, obscured star
formation activities with SFR ~ 140 Msun yr^-1, estimated from either the PAH
emission or IR luminosity. The optical to NIR spectra exhibit a blueshifted
narrow cuspy component in Hb, HeI5876,10830 and other emission lines
consistently with an offset velocity of ~900 km/s, as well as additional
blueshifting phenomena in high-ionization lines , while there exist blueshifted
broad absorption lines (BALs) in NaID and HeI*3889,10830, indicative of the AGN
outflows producing BALs and emission lines. Constrained mutually by the several
BALs with CLOUDY, the physical properties of the absorption-line outflow are
derived as follows: 10^4 < n_H <= 10^5 cm^-3, 10^-1.3 <= U <= 10^-0.7 and
10^22.5<= N_H <= 10^22.9 cm^-2 , similar to those derived for the emission-line
outflows. The similarity suggests a common origin. Taking advantages of both
the absorption lines and outflowing emission lines, we find that the outflow
gas is located at a distance of 48 - 65 pc from the nucleus, and that the
kinetic luminosity of the outflow is 10^44-10^46 erg s^-1. J1634+2049 has a
off-centered galactic ring on the scale of ~ 30 kpc that is proved to be formed
by a recent head-on collision by a nearby galaxy. Thus this quasar is a
valuable object in the transitional phase emerging out of dust enshrouding as
depicted by the co-evolution scenario.Comment: 13 figures, 6 tables; accepted for publication in Ap
