Placenta previa, placenta accreta, increta and percreta are increasing day by day due to increased number of cesarean sections now days, but central placenta previa with placenta percreta invading bladder is a very rare obstetrical complication. A case of central placenta previa with placenta percreta partially invading bladder in woman who was G2P1L1 with 32+6 weeks of gestation and with history of previous cesarean section is presented in this manuscript. The patient was managed with intrapartum cesarean hysterectomy with bilateral ureter J stents and bladder repair following cesarean delivery of a preterm baby. Total estimated blood loss was 6000 mL. The patient was discharged on 28th December 2014 that is 29th day of admission with a healthy baby. The aim of this study is to bring awareness of such case and to discuss the risk factor, presentation, diagnosis, management and choice of anesthesia for the same

Background: Aim: To update the incidence of vaginal cuff related complications after different modes of hysterectomy and their management. Methods: The study was conducted in Jingzhou central hospital, Jingzhou, Hubei, China. Patient’s case files were reviewed who had undergone Hysterectomy from 1st Jan. 2013 - 31st Dec. 2014. The incidence of vaginal cuff related complications were retrospectively evaluated by different approaches. Data were collected according to our inclusion criteria and statistically analyzed its significance (P <0.05).Results: 887 patients underwent hysterectomy during 2 years of study period. Mean age was 54 ± 4 years. Overall incidence of vaginal cuff related complications were 34 (3.83%) which included vaginal cuff bleeding 12 (1.35%), vaginal cuff infections 16 (1.80%) and vaginal cuff dehiscence 6 (0.67%) without evisceration. Laparoscopic hysterectomy had higher incidence (6.12%), than open abdominal (2.56%) and vaginal (3.22%) hysterectomy. Incidences were significant (P = 0.032) to approaches of hysterectomy. The Incidence of vaginal cuff dehiscence between Laparoscopic and Open abdominal hysterectomy were significant (P = 0.015) but the incidence of vaginal cuff bleeding (P = 0.90) and vaginal cuff infection (P = 0.74) were not significant. Over all incidences were higher in malignancy (61%) than benign (20%).Conclusions: Study suggests that vaginal cuff bleeding, cuff infection, cuff dehiscence and evisceration are rare but not negligible which may lead into catastrophic conditions. Early diagnosis and appropriate management reduces further complications. Partial cuff dehiscence can be managed conservatively without surgical repair with satisfactory outcome

Effect of Ecklonia kurome extract on thyroid hormone disorder in rats

Purpose: To investigate the effect of Ecklonia kurome extract (EKE) on thyroid hormone concentrations in male mice. Methods: Mice were administered EKE by gastric intubation for 15 days. PTU or L-T4 was set as positive control. Twenty-four hours after the last administration, all animals were sacrificed by cervical dislocation. Blood was collected and serum samples assayed for T3 and T4. Furthermore, the liver was removed for biochemical analysis. Results: T3 and T4 serum levels in mice decreased after the administration of EKE. The relative potency of EKE was calculated in terms of percent increase or decrease in thyroid hormones. Compared with the control value, the decrease in T3 concentration by a high dose of EKE was approximately 64.32 %. Compared with the control group, hepatic LPO decreased (p < 0.01) while superoxide dismutase (SOD, p < 0.01) and catalase (CAT, p < 0.01) activities were significantly increased by the high dose of EKE, thus indicating its anti-peroxidative role. Conclusion: This suggests that EKE may be useful for the treatment of hyperthyroidism, but further studies are required to ascertain this. Keywords: Ecklonia kurome, Thyroid hormone, Anti-peroxidative, Hyperthyroidis

Current Reversals in a inhomogeneous system with asymmetric unbiased fluctuations

We present a study of transport of a Brownian particle moving in periodic symmetric potential in the presence of asymmetric unbiased fluctuations. The particle is considered to move in a medium with periodic space dependent friction. By tuning the parameters of the system, the direction of current exhibit reversals, both as a function of temperature as well as the amplitude of rocking force. We found that the mutual interplay between the opposite driving factors is the necessary term for current reversals.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figure

'Nu Shu GPS: 25 °21’00.5N, 111°27’17.7E' – an interdisciplinary cooperation between dance, calligraphy, and the body in multimedia performance, began with a diary exchange between the artist and a friend, who shared their thoughts by writing in the same journal. During this ‘diary swapping’ period, they developed a semiotic system that only the two of them could understand. Later, the artist came across Nu Shu, the only written language in the world that exclusively women learned to write and read. The artist attempts to explore all the possible metaphors and meanings implied by Nu Shu. The performance 'Nu Shu GPS: 25 °21’00.5N, 111°27’17' attempts to bring this secret method of communication back to life among modern Chinese women. This interdisciplinary performance work employs a practical approach to art through a creative collaboration among experts from different fields: choreographers, dancers, lighting designers, programmers, etc. It attempts to apply the three stages of the art creation process (Praxis, Symbol, Presence) as the three different faces for a theory regarding this work
