    Development and Evaluation of History Interest Inventory for Chinese K-12 Students

    The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate History Interest Inventory (HII) to measure Chinese K-12 students’ history interest. In this study, data were drawn from two independent samples of a city in Eastern China, and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory facto analysis (CFA) were conducted to reduce instrument size and evaluate the construct validity associated with HII. Furthermore, multiple regression analysis was run to evaluate the weights of each component in predicting students’ achievement. The indices of construct validity and reliability indicated that History Interest Inventory (HII) was an effective and reliable instrument to measure Chinese students’ history interest. To apply this instrument to students from other countries, it is suggested that CFA be conducted with the samples from target countries to check its validity and reliability

    Single-valued neutrosophic TODIM method based on cumulative prospect theory for multi-attribute group decision making and its application to medical emergency management evaluation

    In recent years, emergent public health events happen from time to time, which puts forward new requirements for the establishment of a perfect medical emergency system. It is a new direction to evaluate the effectiveness of medical emergency systems from the perspective of multi-attribute group decision making (MAGDM) issues. In such article, we tend to resolve the MAGDM issues under single-valued neutrosophic sets (SVNSs) with TODIM method based on cumulative prospect theory (CPT). And the single-valued neutrosophic TODIM method based on CPT (CPT-SVNTODIM) for MAGDM issues are developed. This new method not only inherits advantages of classical TODIM method, but also has further improvement in some aspects. For example, we set up the entropy to calculate attribute weights for ensuring the more objective decision-making process. Furthermore, it is also an extension of MAGDM method to utilize single-valued neutrosophic numbers (SVNNs) to depict decision makers’ ideas. In addition, we introduce the application of CPT-SVN-TODIM method in the assessment of medical emergency management. And finally, the reliability of CPT-SVN-TODIM method is confirmed by comparing with some other methods

    Nobiletin Inhibits Expression of Inflammatory Mediators and Regulates JNK/ERK/p38 MAPK and PI3K/Akt Pathways in Human Osteoarthritic Chondrocytes

    Purpose: To investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of nobiletin on human osteoarthritic chondrocytes and also to explore possible related molecular events.Methods: Isolated human osteoarthritic chondrocytes were stimulated with IL-1β. The effect of nobiletin (75, 150 or 300 μg) on chondrocyte viability was assessed. Furthermore, the effect on NO production was determined using Griess reagent while the levels of IL-6 and PGE2 were assessed by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The influence of nobiletin on the expression of COX-2, iNOS and proteins of PI3/Akt, NF-κB and MAPK cascades were also assessed.Results: Nobiletin (75, 150 and 300 μg) significantly (p < 0.05) improved the viability of chondrocytes, and remarkably reduced the levels of NO, IL-6 and PGE2. The expression levels of COX-2 and iNOS both at mRNA and protein levels were strikingly reduced by nobiletin, in a dose-dependent way. In addition, nobiletin caused marked (p < 0.05) down-regulation of the NF-κB signalling pathway. IL-1β- induced activation of PI3/Akt, and JNK, ERK and p38 MAPK cascades were significantly (p < 0.05) inhibited by nobiletin with 300 μg dose exhibiting maximum effects.Conclusion: Inflammatory cytokines are critically involved in the pathogenesis of OA. Significant suppression of cytokines and modulation of PI3/Akt and MAPK signalling cascades by nobiletin suggests its potent anti-inflammatory and anti-osteoarthritic effects.Keywords: Chondrocytes, Inflammation, Mitogen-activated protein kinases, NF-κB, Nobiletin, Osteoarthriti

    Quantum simulation of exotic PT-invariant topological nodal loop bands with ultracold atoms in an optical lattice

    Since the well-known PT symmetry has its fundamental significance and implication in physics, where PT denotes the combined operation of space-inversion P and time-reversal T, it is extremely important and intriguing to completely classify exotic PT-invariant topological metals and to physically realize them. Here we, for the first time, establish a rigorous classification of topological metals that are protected by the PT symmetry using KO-theory. As a physically realistic example, a PT-invariant nodal loop (NL) model in a 3D Brillouin zone is constructed, whose topological stability is revealed through its PT-symmetry-protected nontrivial Z2 topological charge. Based on these exact results, we propose an experimental scheme to realize and to detect tunable PT-invariant topological NL states with ultracold atoms in an optical lattice, in which atoms with two hyperfine spin states are loaded in a spin-dependent 3D OL and two pairs of Raman lasers are used to create out-of-plane spin-flip hopping with site-dependent phase. Such a realistic cold-atom setup can yield topological NL states, having a tunable ring-shaped band-touching line with the two-fold degeneracy in the bulk spectrum and non-trivial surface states. The states are actually protected by the combined PT symmetry even in the absence of both P and T symmetries, and are characterized by a Z2-type invariant (a quantized Berry phase). Remarkably, we demonstrate with numerical simulations that (i) the characteristic NL can be detected by measuring the atomic transfer fractions in a Bloch-Zener oscillation; (ii) the topological invariant may be measured based on the time-of-flight imaging; and (iii) the surface states may be probed through Bragg spectroscopy. The present proposal for realizing topological NL states in cold atom systems may provide a unique experimental platform for exploring exotic PT-invariant topological physics.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures; accepted for publication in Phys.     A quantum secret sharing scheme with verifiable function

    In the (t,n)\left( {t,n} \right) threshold quantum secret sharing scheme, it is difficult to ensure that internal participants are honest. In this paper, a verifiable (t,n)\left( {t,n} \right) threshold quantum secret sharing scheme is designed combined with classical secret sharing scheme. First of all, the distributor uses the asymmetric binary polynomials to generate the shares and sends them to each participant. Secondly, the distributor sends the initial quantum state with the secret to the first participant, and each participant performs unitary operation that using the mutually unbiased bases on the obtained dd dimension single bit quantum state (dd is a large odd prime number). In this process, distributor can randomly check the participants, and find out the internal fraudsters by unitary inverse operation gradually upward. Then the secret is reconstructed after all other participants simultaneously public transmission. Security analysis show that this scheme can resist both external and internal attacks

    Operating characteristics study of a dual-opposed free-piston Stirling generator

    Dual-opposed Free-piston Stirling generators (dual-opposed FPSGs) offer advantages of reduced vibration and increased power density, making them promising candidates for space and distributed energy applications. So far, operational characteristics of the dual-opposed FPSG have yet to be completely understood. This study focuses on a 3 kW dual-opposed FPSG prototype designed to integrate heat pipes. Through computational fluid dynamics and thermoacoustic analysis, a novel hot end heat exchanger with evenly-distributed heat pipe bore was discovered to deliver 12 kW heating power with a gas–solid temperature difference of 21 K. Subsequently effort combined thermoacoustically-based calculations with experiments to investigate the impact of two electrical connection methods of linear alternators on FPSG performance. Experimental results validated the numerical model, showing heat-to-electricity efficiency deviations within 5 % under different electrical connection modes. The FPSG consistently achieved its rated power in both series and parallel connection modes, exhibiting a thermal-to-electric efficiency of 25.2 %. Notably, the series connection mode demonstrates superior sensitivity and consistency compared to parallel connection. Further experiments revealed that charge pressure, load resistance and external capacitance all exerts limited impact on the consistency, while external capacitance significantly influenced acoustic impedance. This resulted in an enhancement in both hot-end wall temperature and heat-to-electricity efficiency, while minimizing power piston displacement and damping temperature when resonating with the inductance

    Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials on the Efficacy and Safety of Donepezil, Galantamine, Rivastigmine, and Memantine for the Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease

    To study the impact of donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine, and memantine on cognitive, functional, behavioral, global changes and adverse effects in patients with mild, moderate and severe Alzheimer’s disease (AD), we screened the literature published before September 2017 in the Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane library and Web of Science Electronic databases according to the inclusion criteria. Thirty-six studies were finally determined from 1560 preliminary screened articles. The AD Assessment Scale-cognitive Subscale (ADAS-cog), AD Cooperative Study-Activities of Daily Living (ADCS-ADL), Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), and Clinician’s Interview-Based Impression of Change Plus Caregiver Input scale (CIBIC+) were used as valid endpoints. Of the 36 trials included, meta-analyses of these placebo-control trials showed that there were significant differences between the donepezil, rivastigmine and placebo groups using ADAS-cog, ADCS-ADL, and CIBIC+. Meta-analyses of these placebo-controlled trials showed that there were significant differences between the galantamine and placebo groups using ADAS-cog, ADCS-ADL, NPI, and CIBIC+. These observations suggest that memantine is beneficial for stabilizing or slowing the decline in ADAS-cog and ADCS-ADL19 changes in AD patients. However, there was no significant effect according to the ADCS-ADL23, NPI, and CIBIC+ tests, which indicated that memantine treatment has no significant effect on these cognitive aspects of AD patients. Different effects of donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine, or memantine on AD were found in this study. According to the results, we conclude that galantamine is effective in treating all aspects of AD and is the first choice for the treatment of AD. However, due to limited data, we should consider additional data to obtain more stable results
