Design and optimisation of process parameters in an in-line CIGS evaporation pilot system

Available from Elsevier via the DOI in this record.Substantial efforts have been made globally towards improving Cu(In,Ga)Se2 thin film solar cell efficiencies with several organisations successfully exceeding the 20% barrier on a research level using the three-stage CIGS process, but commercial mass production of the three-stage process has been limited due to the technological difficulties of scaling-up. An attempt has been made to identify these issues by designing and manufacturing an in-line pilot production deposition system for the three-stage CIGS process which is capable of processing 30 cm × 30 cm modules. The optimisation of the process parameters such as source and substrate temperature, deposition uniformity, flux of copper, indium, gallium and selenium and thickness control has been presented in this investigation. A simplistic thickness distribution model of the evaporated films was developed to predict and validate the designed deposition process, which delivers a comparable simulation compared with the experimental data. These experiments also focused on the optimisation of the temperature uniformity across 30 cm × 30 cm area using a specially designed graphite heating system, which is crucial to form the correct α-phase CIGS in the desired time period. A three-dimensional heat transfer model using COMSOL Multiphysics 4.2a software has been developed and validated with the help of experimental data.This research work was supported partially through the funding support received from EPSRC UK–India programme APEX (EP/H040218/1) and partially supported by Excitonic Supergen (EPSRC (EP(G03101088/1)) programme
Preliminary study on TIMS U-Th dating technique and their application
Thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) U-Th technique in dating purecarbonate has been established in our laboratory and was used to determine the ages of the Holocene coral samples from the South China Sea and a National Reference Material of uranium-series, GBW04413. The TIMS results of GBW04413 are in good agreement with their reference data determined from α-couning, indication that the ages by TIMS U-Th method are reliable. The TIMS ages of the coral samples older than 5ka have slightly older TIMS U-Th ages than their [14] C ages, which agrees with previous studies [12, 13, 16].尝试了用热电离质谱方法测定南海第四纪珊瑚的U- Th 年龄, 并利用国家铀系年龄标准物质GBW04413 来监测分析结果的合理性。结果显示, GBW04413 的TIMS 年龄与作为推荐值的A记数方法测定结果一致, 反映出其可靠性; 而年龄在1ka 左右的珊瑚样品的TIMS 年龄与14C 年龄一致, >5ka 样品的TIMS 年龄老于14C 年龄, 体现两种方法的系统差别。published_or_final_versio

Bound exciton and free exciton states in GaSe thin slab
The photoluminescence (PL) and absorption experiments have been performed in
GaSe slab with incident light polarized perpendicular to c-axis of sample at
10K. An obvious energy difference of about 34meV between exciton absorption
peak and PL peak (the highest energy peak) is observed. By studying the
temperature dependence of PL spectra, we attribute it to energy difference
between free exciton and bound exciton states, where main exciton absorption
peak comes from free exciton absorption, and PL peak are attributed to
recombination of bound exciton at 10K. This strong bound exciton effect is
stable up to 50K. Moreover, the temperature dependence of integrated PL
intensity and PL lifetime reveals that a non-radiative process, with active
energy extracted as 0.5meV, dominates PL emission.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
PediDraw: A web-based tool for drawing a pedigree in genetic counseling
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Drawing a pedigree is a prerequisite in genetic counseling. In medical records, a pedigree is useful to document the family history of the patient. Drawing a pedigree is also necessary in collecting genetic resources for medical research such as positional cloning. Currently, most pedigrees are drawn by hand or by drawing software. Due to the special requirements in a standardized pedigree, generating a pedigree by these methods is usually time-consuming and requires professionals. This limits the usage of a pedigree as demanded in remote diagnosis or online counseling from the counselees to send an electronic pedigree.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We developed an online pedigree drawing tool, PediDraw, which enables users to generate pedigrees after inputting the family information step-by-step on web. It outputs a pedigree or table to present a family history to the counselors.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>PediDraw is a user-friendly web-based drawing tool. It is accessible via Internet.</p
Criticality in correlated quantum matter
At quantum critical points (QCP)
\cite{Pfeuty:1971,Young:1975,Hertz:1976,Chakravarty:1989,Millis:1993,Chubukov:1
994,Coleman:2005} there are quantum fluctuations on all length scales, from
microscopic to macroscopic lengths, which, remarkably, can be observed at
finite temperatures, the regime to which all experiments are necessarily
confined. A fundamental question is how high in temperature can the effects of
quantum criticality persist? That is, can physical observables be described in
terms of universal scaling functions originating from the QCPs? Here we answer
these questions by examining exact solutions of models of correlated systems
and find that the temperature can be surprisingly high. As a powerful
illustration of quantum criticality, we predict that the zero temperature
superfluid density, , and the transition temperature, , of
the cuprates are related by , where the exponent
is different at the two edges of the superconducting dome, signifying the
respective QCPs. This relationship can be tested in high quality crystals.Comment: Final accepted version not including minor stylistic correction

Carboplatin remains a first-line agent in the management of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Unfortunately, platinum-resistant disease ultimately occurs in most patients. Using a novel EOC cell line with acquired resistance to carboplatin: PEO1CarbR, genome-wide micro-array profiling identified the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p57(Kip2) as specifically downregulated in carboplatin resistance.
