A study of educational leadership preparation concerning the assistant principal : perspectives of Missouri principals and assistant principals

Abstract from short.pdf file.Dissertation supervisor: Dr. Cynthia MacGregor.Includes vita.It is unclear if the initial preparation of educational leaders, in relation to the role of assistant principals (APs), has kept pace with growing demands associated with the position. Little research exists specifically addressing the initial developmental preparation of APs. Elements of a needs assessment and program evaluation combine to build infrastructure for a conceptual framework to guide this study. A mixed method design for this study was determined to be the best method in which to provide answers concerning the proposed research questions. Participants consisted of lead and assistant principals from school districts across Missouri. Quantitative and qualitative data was analyzed for trends. Quantitative and qualitative data was compared to one another in order to attain a thorough and comprehensive examination of collected data.Includes bibliographical references (pages 149-161)

LabVIEW Improvements and Equipment Redesign of Unit Operations Distillation Column

    Get PDF
Unit Operations labs are important tools to provide hands-on learning with various chemical processes. The distillation lab experiment allows students to connect equations and definitions from textbooks to the physical processes of distillation as they occur. LabVIEW was the software development tool used to create a program to control the distillation column from startup to shutdown. Improvements were made to both the distillation process equipment and the LabVIEW code to create a more interactive lab experience, enhance students’ conceptual understanding of distillation, and prepare students for their future career as chemical engineers. Equipment addressed included non-linear valves, malfunctioning temperature and differential pressure measurements, unnecessary piping in the system, and inaccessible equipment. The University of Louisville partnered with C&I Engineering in order to develop a redesign of the distillation column system to improve equipment accessibility. Upgrades to the LabVIEW code were made, including converting the overall architecture to a state machine, isolating the logic operations, and removing unnecessary code. Improvements made within the scope of this project have produced a safe yet adaptable foundation for the distillation lab and software. The proposed redesign will create a more streamlined process, better suited to enhance the student learning experience. The updated LabVIEW code is safer for operating the distillation column, allows for an increase in process control, and can be easily adapted for future projects to meet evolving learning objectives

The Haasis Family Papers consist of family history data, correspondence, literary manuscripts, drawings, photographs, newspaper clippings, financial and legal papers, memorabilia, and other papers of the Haasis family of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and Aiken, South Carolina. Includes club and organizational files for the American Association of University Women, American Rose Society, Smokey Mountains History Club, the Connecticut College Alumni Association, Aiken Naturalists Club, Edisto Beach Yacht Club, the Savannah River Valley Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Rutgers Alumni Association. Subjects include gardening, gold mining, South America, girl scouting, engineering, travel, Europe, China, and India. Also of particular is a Physics Notebook by Julius Friedrich Haasis (1827-1888) in which he illustrates in the margins the political and social turmoil being felt in the 1840s German State and in Europe. For more an in depth synopsis of the notebook consult the attached article by Fred Powell titled, Julius Friedrich Haais\u27 Physik Heft Das Gesetz des Hebels (The Laws of Leverage).https://digitalcommons.winthrop.edu/manuscriptcollection_findingaids/1134/thumbnail.jp

Upgrading? Migrating? There’s a portmanteau for that!

Open Repositiories 2015Fedora 4, the new, revitalized version of Fedora, boasts a feature set that includes improvements in scalability, linked data capabilities, research data support, modularity, and more. Since the launch of Fedora 4.0, a number of institutions have begun the process of upgrading their existing Fedora 3 repositories to Fedora 4 and migrating their content (thus the portmanteau "upgration"). Upgration will be different for every institution, but the common thread is the wealth of new opportunities Fedora 4 provides, both in terms of data modeling and application integrations. This presentation will focus on planning a move to a new repository platform and the opportunities provided by the new Fedora 4 feature set. In particular, the Linked Data Platform implementation provides some exciting capabilities for enhancing metadata and building semantic relationships between objects both within the repository and on the open web. By engaging in upgration projects now, the panelists are making sure their use cases are supported, as well as paving the way for full scale migrations later this year. Attendees considering their own upgration projects will have a chance to learn from the experience of the speakers and get excited about the new opportunities provided by Fedora 4

Beyond the Shade of the Oak Tree: The Recent Growth of Johannine Studies

The recent growth within Johannine studies has developed as a result of several factors. First, the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls led to an appreciation of the Jewishness of John’s origin. Second, new approaches to John’s composition have emerged, followed by a larger set of inquiries as to the Johannine tradition’s relation to parallel traditions. This has been accompanied by a fourth interest: the history of the Johannine situation. Fifth, new literary studies have posed new horizons for interpretation, and sixth, theories continue to abound on the identity of the Beloved Disciple. A seventh development involves new ways of conceiving John’s theological features, leading to an eighth: reconsidering John’s historical features and re-envisioning its historical contributions in new perspective
