    Evaluating the Effectiveness of CCTV in Baltimore, Maryland

    This report reviews the results of an investigation into the effectiveness of public surveillance systems in Cherry Hill, Baltimore City, Maryland. Its chief objective is to discern whether closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras are a successful crime control measure and whether their implementation displaced crime or generated a diffusion of benefits to the areas outside a camera’s viewshed. Previous research on the efficacy of CCTV leaves much to be desired, and the debate is still inconclusive. Thus, this study attempts to move toward new ways of analyzing crime data gathered pre- and post-implementation of cameras in a given target area. To conduct this research, the investigation utilizes a combination of existing and new geographical information systems (GIS) spatial techniques to visualize and measure crime distribution and uses light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data to produce a precise mapping of a camera’s line of sight. Findings from each analytical method are compared, contrasted, and combined to provide rounded results. These findings suggest that the implementation of GIS techniques in crime mapping have huge potential and could provide innovative uses for CCTV within law enforcement crime control programs

    Using the self-determination theory framework developed by Ryan and Deci (2000), this study explored the facilitation strategies doctoral candidates used to stay on task during the global pandemic. Areas of inquiry included academic progression, dissertation research writing processes and addressing impacts on work, academic studies and persistence. The study used a phenomenological approach of qualitative research design. Ten participants were selected using a convenient sampling method. Three themes emerged from the data that included (1) Balancing work and life quality issues, (2) Mastering academic protocols (3) Developing collective efficacy in scholar development. This study revealed that student dependence on the guidance of the chair and committee is a critical component to individual decision-making regarding program persistence and project completion. Study results affirm the importance of faculty intentionality in providing more support for students during times of crisis

    Chitosan and its derivatives for application in mucoadhesive drug delivery systems

    Mucoadhesive drug delivery systems are desirable as they can increase the residence time of drugs at the site of absorption/action, provide sustained drug release and minimize the degradation of drugs in various body sites. Chitosan is a cationic polysaccharide that exhibits mucoadhesive properties and it has been widely used in the design of mucoadhesive dosage forms. However, its limited mucoadhesive strength and limited water-solubility at neutral and basic pHs are considered as two major drawbacks of its use. Chemical modification of chitosan has been exploited to tackle these two issues. In this review, we highlight the up-to-date studies involving the synthetic approaches and description of mucoadhesive properties of chitosan and chitosan derivatives. These derivatives include trimethyl chitosan, carboxymethyl chitosan, thiolated chitosan, chitosan-enzyme inhibitors, chitosan-ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (chitosan-EDTA), half-acetylated chitosan, acrylated chitosan, glycol chitosan, chitosan-catechol, methyl pyrrolidinone-chitosan, cyclodextrin-chitosan and oleoyl-quaternised chitosan. We have particularly focused on the effect of chemical derivatization on the mucoadhesive properties of chitosan. Additionally, other important properties including water-solubility, stability, controlled release, permeation enhancing effect, and in vivo performance are also described

Tangguh Foja” adalah karena tidak efektifnya kegiatan cool down yang mengakibatkan terhambatnya kegiatan bongkar muat yang telah direncanakan sebelumnya. Dengan rumusan masalah 1.) Bagaimana kegiatan cool down LNG dikapal MV. Tangguh Foja? 2.) Bagaimana upaya untuk mengoptimalkan kegiatan cool down dikapal MV. Tangguh Foja? Penelitian skripsi ini didasarkan pada pelaksanaan cool down, pentingnya pengaturan kecepatan dan tekanan pada masing-masing tanki muatan dalam upaya menghindari ESD (Emergency Shut Down) yang dapat menghambat kegiatan bongkar muat, perawatan terhadap alat-alat bongkar muat dan familiariasi kepada awak kapal. Metode penelitian yang peneliti gunakan dalam penelitian skripsi ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif, dangan metode analisa Fishbone dan Fault Tree Analysis. Sumber data dari penelitian ini berasal dari hasil observasi dan Record Operation selama penulis melaksanakan cooling down pada Februari 2017 di kapal LNG Tangguh Foja. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1.) Cara penanganan pada tanki muatan kaitannya dengan cooling down guna menghindari kapal dari ESD. 2.) Ada beberapa faktor kendala yang terjadi pada kegiatan cooling down di kapal LNG Tangguh Foja, yaitu: Manpower, Method, dan Machinery. Tangguh foja optimalize the cool down on board This research is based on the understanding of cool down operation, the importance setting of the velocity and the pressure inside cargo tank to avoid ESD (Emergency Shut Down) which can delay the cargo operation, maintenence of cargo equipment, and the importance of familiarization to the personnel on board. The research method that is use in writing this research is descriptive qualitative method, with analysis method using Fishbone and Fault Tree Analysis. Sources of data from this study are from observations and record of operation during the author’s experience joining cool down operation in February 2017 onboard LNG Tangguh Foja. The results shows that: 1.) Procedure or sequence inside cargo tank relate to cool down operation to avoid ESD on board. 2.) There are some obstacle factors happened during cool down Operation in LNG Tangguh Foja as follows: Manpower, Method, and Machine. The author's suggestion for the cool down operation is that it must be carried out in accordance with Ship’s Cargo Handling Manual, IGC Code, and SIGTTO to create a safe operation and avoid events that may endanger the ship and its content
