    © 2019 by the authors. Astragalus is a very interesting plant genus, well-known for its content of flavonoids, triterpenes and polysaccharides. Its secondary metabolites are described as biologically active compounds showing several activities, e.g., immunomodulating, antibacterial, antiviral and hepatoprotective. This inspired us to analyze the Bulgarian endemic A. aitosensis (Ivanisch.) to obtain deeper information about its phenolic components. We used extensive chromatographic separation of A. aitosensis extract to obtain seven phenolic compounds (1–7), which were identified using combined LC-MS and NMR spectral studies. The 1D and 2D NMR analyses and HR-MS allowed us to resolve the structures of known compounds 5–7 as isorhamnetin-3-O-robinobioside, isorhamnetin-3-O-(2,6-di-O-α-rhamno-pyranosyl-β-galactopyranoside), and alangiflavoside, respectively, and further comparison of these spectral data with available literature helped us with structural analysis of newly described flavonoid glycosides 1–4.     Impact of Home Visit Capacity on Genetic Association Studies of Late-Onset Alzheimer\u27s Disease

    INTRODUCTION—Findings for genetic correlates of late-onset Alzheimer\u27s disease (LOAD) in studies that rely solely on clinic visits may differ from those with capacity to follow participants unable to attend clinic visits. METHODS—We evaluated previously identified LOAD-risk single nucleotide variants in the prospective Adult Changes in Thought study, comparing hazard ratios (HRs) estimated using the full data set of both in-home and clinic visits (n = 1697) to HRs estimated using only data that were obtained from clinic visits (n = 1308). Models were adjusted for age, sex, principal components to account for ancestry, and additional health indicators. RESULTS—LOAD associations nominally differed for 4 of 21 variants; CR1 and APOE variants were significant after Bonferroni correction. DISCUSSION—Estimates of genetic associations may differ for studies limited to clinic-only designs. Home visit capacity should be explored as a possible source of heterogeneity and potential bias in genetic studies

    Intracerebroventricular administration of the dynorphin analog, [D-Ala2,(F5)Phe4]-dynorphin1-13-NH2 (DAFPHEDYN) in rats produced diuresis and profound analgesia. Both effects were antagonized by central administration of naltrexone or naloxone. Intravenous administration of 10, 25, and 50 mg/kg of DAFPHEDYN failed to induce diuresis. The increased potency of DAFPHEDYN was apparent from the failure of an equal dose of the parent compound (dynorphin 1-13) to produce diuresis and the failure of [D-Ala2]-dynorphin1-13-NH2 to produce analgesia. Radioligand binding studies indicated the DAFPHEDYN retains the same degree of [kappa] selectivity as the parent compound (dynorphin 1-13) though a drop in affinity occurred.     Incidence of cognitively defined late-onset Alzheimer\u27s dementia subgroups from a prospective cohort study.

    INTRODUCTION: There may be biologically relevant heterogeneity within typical late-onset Alzheimer\u27s dementia. METHODS: We analyzed cognitive data from people with incident late-onset Alzheimer\u27s dementia from a prospective cohort study. We determined individual averages across memory, visuospatial functioning, language, and executive functioning. We identified domains with substantial impairments relative to that average. We compared demographic, neuropathology, and genetic findings across groups defined by relative impairments. RESULTS: During 32,286 person-years of follow-up, 869 people developed Alzheimer\u27s dementia. There were 393 (48%) with no domain with substantial relative impairments. Some participants had isolated relative impairments in memory (148, 18%), visuospatial functioning (117, 14%), language (71, 9%), and executive functioning (66, 8%). The group with isolated relative memory impairments had higher proportions with ≥ APOE ε4 allele, more extensive Alzheimer\u27s-related neuropathology, and higher proportions with other Alzheimer\u27s dementia genetic risk variants. DISCUSSION: A cognitive subgrouping strategy may identify biologically distinct subsets of people with Alzheimer\u27s dementia

    A Quasi-Model-Independent Search for New Physics at Large Transverse Momentum

    We apply a quasi-model-independent strategy ("Sleuth") to search for new high p_T physics in approximately 100 pb^-1 of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV collected by the DZero experiment during 1992-1996 at the Fermilab Tevatron. Over thirty-two e mu X, W+jets-like, Z+jets-like, and 3(lepton/photon)X exclusive final states are systematically analyzed for hints of physics beyond the standard model. Simultaneous sensitivity to a variety of models predicting new phenomena at the electroweak scale is demonstrated by testing the method on a particular signature in each set of final states. No evidence of new high p_T physics is observed in the course of this search, and we find that 89% of an ensemble of hypothetical similar experimental runs would have produced a final state with a candidate signal more interesting than the most interesting observed in these data.Comment: 28 pages, 17 figures.
