Potentials of social media for tacit knowledge sharing among clinicians: Preliminary findings
Tacit knowledge sharing amongst physicians, such as the sharing of clinical experiences, skills, or know-how, or know-whom, is known to have a significant impact on the quality of medical diagnosis and decisions. This paper posits that social media can provide new opportunities for tacit knowledge sharing amongst physicians, and demonstrates this by presenting findings from a review of relevant literature and a survey conducted with physicians. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten physicians from around the world who were active users of social media. Initial thematic analysis revealed eight themes as potential contributions of social web tools to facilitate tacit knowledge flow amongst physicians. The emergent themes are defined, linked to the literature, and supported by instances of interview transcripts. Findings presented here are preliminary, and final results will be reported after accomplishing all phases of data collection and analysis
Minimum energy conformations of DNA dimeric subunits: Potential energy calculations for dGpdC, dApdA, dCpdC, dGpdG, and dTpdT
Minimum energy conformations have been calculated for the deoxydinucleoside phosphates dGpdC, dApdA, dCpdC, dGpdG, and dTpdT. In these potential energy calculations the eight diheldral angles and the sugar pucker were flexible parameters. A substantial survey of conformation space was made in which all staggred combination of the dihedral angles ω′,ω, and ψ, in conjunction with C(2′)-endo pucker, were used as starting conformers for the energy minimization. The most important conformations in the C(3′)-endo-puckering domain have ψ = g+; ω′,ω = g−,g−(A-form),g+, g+, and g−,t. With C(2′)-endo-type pucker the most important conformations have ψ = g+; ω′,ω =g-,g-(B-form) and g+,t; and ψ =t; ω′,ω =g-,t(Watson-Crick from) and t,g+ (skewed). Stacked bases are a persistent feature of the low-energy conformations, the g+ conformer being an exception. Freeing the suger pucker allowed this conformation to become low energy, with C(3′)-exo pucker. It also caused other low-energy forms, such and the Waston-Crick conformation, to become more favourable. Conformation flexibility in the sugar pucker and in ψ, as well as the ω′,ω angle pair, is indicated for the dimeric subunits of DNA
Systematic Literature Review Report for The National Child safeguarding Practice Review into the Sudden Unexpected Death of Infants (SUDI) in families where the children are considered to be at risk of significant harm
This literature review was commissioned by the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel to investigate the evidence for how health professionals can best support parents with children considered to be at high risk of significant harm through abuse or neglect to ensure that safer sleep advice can be clearly understood and embedded in parenting practice. Therefore, this systematic review investigated three areas of the literature: interventions for improving the uptake of safer sleep advice in families with children considered to be at high risk for SUDI, interventions to improve engagement with support services in families with children considered to be at high risk of significant harm through abuse or neglect, and improving our understanding of the parental decision making processes for the infant sleep environment in families with children considered to be at high risk for SUDI
Inactivation of bacteria and yeasts on agar surfaces with high power Nd: YAG laser light
Near infrared light from a high-powered, 1064 nm, Neodymium : Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (Nd : YAG) laser killed a variety of Gram-positive and Gramnegative bacteria and two yeasts, lawned on nutrient agar plates. A beam (crosssectional area, 1.65 cm2) of laser light was delivered in 10 J, 8 ms pulses at 10 Hz, in a series of exposure times. For each microbial species, a dose/response curve was obtained of area of inactivation vs energy density (J cm−2). The energy density that gave an inactivation area (IA) equal to 50% of the beam area was designated the IA50-value and was plotted together with its 95% confidence limits. Average IA50-values were all within a threefold range and varied from 1768 J cm−2 for Serratia marcescens to 4489 J cm−2 for vegetative cells of Bacillus stearothermophilus. There were no systematic differences in sensitivity attributable to cell shape, size, pigmentation or Gram reaction. At the lowest energy densities where inactivation was achieved for the majority of organisms (around 2000 J cm−2), no effect was observed on the nutrient agar surface, but as the energy density was increased, a depression in the agar surface was formed, followed by localized melting of the agar
