    Perception of Community Health Workers in Indonesia Toward Patients with Mental Disorders

    In Indonesia, there are any community health volunteers called Kader. Although Kaders are members of mental health volunteer, they sometimes show negative attitude to psychotic persons, even they have already got some training about mental health. The aims of this study were to investigate 1) how is Kader's perception compare to the other countries, 2) how will they consult compare to the other countries 3) how is comparison of Kaders' perception to mental disorder person between trained and untrained. The method of this research is a descriptive explorative using survey study. This study was held on June to September 2013. It was conducted in five districts of Yogyakarta area with 619 respondents. The Questionnaires used contained three sections are follows; Part A is about Demographic Data, Part B two case vignettes (taken from MacArthur Health Module of the 1996 general Social Survey) and Part C about Kaders experiences. The perception of Kader as part of the community is lower than the general residence in the United States and Japan. The comparison between trained and untrained Kaders shown that trained Kaders has better perception toward patient with mental disorder. These results suggest that actual experiences in meeting the cases contributed to the improvement of Kaders' perception better than the previous mental health training did. It might be Kaders with short experience are explored information Kaders should be trained with more structured curriculum and recruiting Kader is recommended to recruit the young generation

    Purpose: The purpose of this study wasto determine the influence of situational to anxiety and anxiety levels of diploma nursing students at Institute of Health Sciences Banyuwangi in the skill exam laboratory. Method: This study used a mixed methods with explanatory sequential models, by involved were students, lectures and the lab staff in January, 16th-20 th 2017. The quantitative analysis used Kruskall Wallis test, followed by a qualitative analysis of manually categorizing data then inferred from both the analysis. Result: The result of quantitative method that the majority of respondents were in mild anxiety levels, by Kruskall Wallis obtained a not significant influence on situational to anxiety of Diploma Nursing Student in the exam skills lab. Qualitative results indicated to four themes: noisy, temperature skill room, timing in the exam skill lab and preparation of the situational. Conclusion: that the majority of respondents were in mild anxiety levels and there's the influence of situational to anxiety in diploma nursing students. By that results, to have follow-up for students, examiner, and the lab staffs from relevant parties concerned to overcome the student's anxiety toward the lab skills exam related in atmosphere skill lab exam

    Response and Attitudes of ER Nurses in Handling Clients with Suicide Attempts and Self-Harm: A Literature Review

    Suicide is the third leading cause of death worldwide. Most of the suicide attempters were taken to the emergency room (ER) of general hospitals for treatment. The response and attitudes of emergency nurses have an important role in determining the success of treatment in patients with suicide attempts and self-harm. The purpose of this study is to determine the response and attitudes of emergency nurses in general hospitals in treating patients with attempted suicide and self-harm. Searching for articles was done through Pubmed, ProQuest, Ebsco and Scopus databases with the keywords "emergency department nursing", "suicide", "nurses' attitudes". Then an analysis was carried out according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria to determine the appropriateness of the articles. From the results of the study of 8 articles, it was found that the ER nurses showed a negative response and attitudes towards patients with suicide attempts and self-harm. They needed standardized guidelines or protocols from hospitals as a reference in treating patients with psychiatric emergencies. Other needs of ER nurses are education and training in emergency psychiatric management. Most of the nurses showed poor attitudes and response towards patients with attempted suicide and self-harm. It occurred as a result of the lack of emergency psychiatric education and training and lack of hospital protocols
