COPD in Poland – risk factor and epidemiology

    Get PDF
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) falls under the category of civilization diseases. According to World Health Organization, its burden is expected to increase in the following decades, mainly due to constant exposition to the risk factors, population growth and ageing, to become the third most frequent cause of death until 2030. According to the guidelines of the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) from 2015, COPD can be prevented and successfully treated. Despite the serious problem that is COPD, in many countries the data on this disease is insufficient. The most important risk factor leading to COPD that can be modified is smoking tobacco, the habit that is still popular among the adults. The knowledge of the risk factors and their elimination, as well as leading a healthy lifestyle and preference towards health behaviour that helps reducing the advancement of the disease should therefore become the basis for preventing COPD

The improvement of medical services as an essential component of changes to the medical care system

    Get PDF
The high quality of the medical services, it’s constant improvement and custom approach to the patients needs stand as one of the most important issues of modern healthcare. The patient, being beneficiary, shapes the market of health services through expressing his opinions and expectations. The exclusion of their feedback during management might lead to the loss of reputation on the medical services market. The term “quality”, same as “health” is subjective. Defining quality will depend on experience, knowledge, demands, and expectations of the clients. The aim of the article is to survey the patients’ opinions and expectations towards the quality of healthcare services. The patients expect the constant improvement of that quality during ongoing changes to the healthcare system. They place it very high on their priorities' list. To them quality equals security and medical professionalism. The nature of providing medical services entails that higher quality demand are not possible to meet without overall improvement of how the patients are taken care of

Poland has been a member of the European Union since 1 May 2004 under the Accession Treaty signed on 16 April 2003 in Athens, the legal basis for Poland's accession to the European Union. Thanks to this move we get help in the form of EU grants to improve our economy. Since then we have seen the effects of this help, such as motorways, stadiums. And what contribution does the EU have for the health of Poland? Thanks to participation in the European Union, our health care has improved. Thanks to numerous subsidies, the conditions in hospitals and outpatient clinics have improved and new medical equipment has become available. The modernization of medical rescue services, including the purchase of new emergency ambulances, the construction, reconstruction or repair of provincial emergency notification centers, will result in the reduction of mortality in emergency situations in the near future. Thanks to subsidies from the European Union, there have been many positive changes in the Polish health service. Thanks to the good use of funds, people are tested with state-of-the-art equipment by qualified medical personnel, brought by specialized ambulances to an appropriately-organized and well-equipped healthcare facility
