Shaping of molecular weight distribution by iterative learning probability density function control strategies
A mathematical model is developed for the molecular weight distribution (MWD) of free-radical styrene polymerization in a simulated semi-batch reactor system. The generation function technique and moment method are employed to establish the MWD model in the form of Schultz-Zimmdistribution. Both static and dynamic models are described in detail. In order to achieve the closed-loop MWD shaping by output probability density function (PDF) control, the dynamic MWD model is further developed by a linear B-spline approximation. Based on the general form of the B-spline MWD model, iterative learning PDF control strategies have been investigated in order to improve the MWD control performance. Discussions on the simulation studies show the advantages and limitations of the methodology
Spin and Orbital Splitting in Ferromagnetic Contacted Single Wall Carbon Nanotube Devices
We observed the coulomb blockade phenomena in ferromagnetic contacting single
wall semiconducting carbon nanotube devices. No obvious Coulomb peaks shift was
observed with existing only the Zeeman splitting at 4K. Combining with other
effects, the ferromagnetic leads prevent the orbital spin states splitting with
magnetic field up to 2 Tesla at 4K. With increasing magnetic field further,
both positive or negative coulomb peaks shift slopes are observed associating
with clockwise and anticlockwise orbital state splitting. The strongly
suppressed/enhanced of the conductance has been observed associating with the
magnetic field induced orbital states splitting/converging

A Palette of Deepened Emotions: Exploring Emotional Challenge in Virtual Reality Games
Recent work introduced the notion of āemotional challengeāpromising for understanding more unique and diverse player experiences (PX). Although emotional challenge has immediately attracted HCI researchersā attention, the concept has not been experimentally explored, especially in virtual reality (VR), one of the latest gaming environments. We conducted two experiments to investigate how emotional challenge affects PX when separately from or jointly with conventional challenge in VR and PC conditions. We found that relatively exclusive emotional challenge induced a wider range of different emotions in both conditions, while the adding of emotional challenge broadened emotional responses only in VR. In both experiments, VR significantly enhanced the measured PX of emotional responses, appreciation, immersion and presence. Our findings indicate that VR may be an ideal medium to present emotional challenge and also extend the understanding of emotional (and conventional) challenge in video games
