    Pedestrian Attribute Recognition: A Survey

    Recognizing pedestrian attributes is an important task in computer vision community due to it plays an important role in video surveillance. Many algorithms has been proposed to handle this task. The goal of this paper is to review existing works using traditional methods or based on deep learning networks. Firstly, we introduce the background of pedestrian attributes recognition (PAR, for short), including the fundamental concepts of pedestrian attributes and corresponding challenges. Secondly, we introduce existing benchmarks, including popular datasets and evaluation criterion. Thirdly, we analyse the concept of multi-task learning and multi-label learning, and also explain the relations between these two learning algorithms and pedestrian attribute recognition. We also review some popular network architectures which have widely applied in the deep learning community. Fourthly, we analyse popular solutions for this task, such as attributes group, part-based, \emph{etc}. Fifthly, we shown some applications which takes pedestrian attributes into consideration and achieve better performance. Finally, we summarized this paper and give several possible research directions for pedestrian attributes recognition.     An Electric Assisted Turbo with Centrifugal Clutch and Axial Flux Motor

    A traditional electric turbocharger (E-turbo) uses a radial flux motor coupled to the turbocharger to provide additional power to the drive the compressor at low speeds. This configuration is not compact and lacks satisfying transient response when motor is powered off because of high inertia of the wheel rotor system. This article proposes a novel E-turbo configuration that uses an axial flux motor and a centrifugal clutch so that the E-turbo is more compact with more flexible connection between motor and wheel rotor system

    Video Captioning with Aggregated Features Based on Dual Graphs and Gated Fusion

    The application of video captioning models aims at translating the content of videos by using accurate natural language. Due to the complex nature inbetween object interaction in the video, the comprehensive understanding of spatio-temporal relations of objects remains a challenging task. Existing methods often fail in generating sufficient feature representations of video content. In this paper, we propose a video captioning model based on dual graphs and gated fusion: we adapt two types of graphs to generate feature representations of video content and utilize gated fusion to further understand these different levels of information. Using a dual-graphs model to generate appearance features and motion features respectively can utilize the content correlation in frames to generate various features from multiple perspectives. Among them, dual-graphs reasoning can enhance the content correlation in frame sequences to generate advanced semantic features; The gated fusion, on the other hand, aggregates the information in multiple feature representations for comprehensive video content understanding. The experiments conducted on worldly used datasets MSVD and MSR-VTT demonstrate state-of-the-art performance of our proposed approach

    Salvianolic acid B Relieves Oxidative Stress in Glucose Absorption and Utilization of Mice Fed High-Sugar Diet

    Purpose: To evaluate the influence of Salvianolic acid B (Sal B) on  oxidative stress in mice administrated with glucose, sucrose and high-sugar diet.Methods: 40 Kunming mice were divided into four groups of 10. After a fast of 12 h, mice were treated by oral infusion respectively with physiological saline, 20 % glucose, 20 % sucrose, and 20 % glucose + 0.002 % Sal B. Blood glucose and levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) were  determined at 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 h after administration. Another 3 groups of 10 Kunming mice each were fed with normal diet, high-sugar diet (20 % sucrose, HSD) and HSD + 0.002 % Sal B. Four weeks later, the levels of ROS as well as antioxidant enzyme activity were determined.Results: Blood ROS showed the first peak at 0.5 h and a higher peak at 1.5 h after high glucose administration. ROS were mainly produced in liver and pancreas with the utilization of glucose. Sal B administration prevented increase in blood glucose and significantly (p < 0.05) reduced ROS produced in the process of glucose absorption and utilization, especially the latter. Sal B decrease oxidative stress induced by HSD through scavenging ROS associated with increased activity of antioxidant enzymes.Conclusion: This study demonstrates that Sal B can decrease oxidative stress in glucose absorption and utilization in HSD mice.     Effects of Danqidihuang Granules on glucolipid metabolism in insulin-resistant rats

    AbstractObjectiveTo explore whether the insulin resistance (IR) model could be established through feeding Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats high-sugar and high-fat diets and to further observe the preventive and treatment effects of different doses of Danqidihuang Granules in rats.MethodsThirty-two SD rats were divided randomly into control group A (given regular feed), model group B (food high in sugar and fat), intervention group C (food high in sugar and fat as well as regular doses of Danqidihuang Granules), and intervention group D (food high in sugar and fat as well as double doses of Danqidihuang Granules). The interventions were for 8 weeks. Motion, change in color, body weight, and food intake, as well as plasma lipids (including low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), total cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride (TG), fasting blood glucose (FBG), fasting insulin (FINs) levels, insulin sensitivity index (ISI), and insulin resistance index (HOMO-IR) were observed.ResultsAt the end of the second week of the experiment, the appetite and activities of rats in groups B, C and D decreased significantly compared with group A. The fur of the rats in those three groups was curly. After the fourth week, the activities, food intake and color of rats in group B were worse than those in groups C and D, but there were no significant differences in weight (P>0.05). Compared with group A, LDL-C, TC, FBG and HOMO-IR in model group B were increased significantly (P<0.05), whereas the FINs and ISI increased obviously (P<0.05). The levels of LDL-C and TC in group D was decreased obviously compared with those in group C, and HOMO-IR in group D was less than that in group B (P<0.05).ConclusionsDanqidihuang Granules helped to prevent and improved the insulin resistance of rats
