    Design and implementation of BibTex Editor

    This report describes the design and implementation issues of BibTex Editor. The program is intended to facilitate the creation and editing of BibTex files. The focus of the program is to make the creation and editing of BibTex bibliography a simple task. First all, we talk about the requirement of the BibTex Editor, for example, the program can make the creation and editing of BibTex file easily; the user interface can change based on the different entry type; finally, we can get a new BibTex file. Secondly, we give the detail of design and implementation based on the above specification, for example, the BibTex Editor is intended to work like a database program. The program can import the BibTex file into database records; can edit those records easily; can export database records into a new BibTex file. Also, some screen of the GUI interface pages and related coding are presented. Finally, we describe how to use the program, and some work that should be done in the future

    Thermal diffusion analysis by using dual horizon peridynamics

    In this study, Dual Horizon Peridynamics formulation is presented for thermal diffusion analysis. Lagrangian formalism is utilised to derive the governing equations. The proposed formulation allows utilisation of variable discretisation and horizon sizes inside the solution domain which can result in significant benefits in terms of computational time. To demonstrate the capability of the Dual Horizon Peridynamics formulation, three different example problems are considered including a square plate with temperature and no flux boundary conditions, a square plate under thermal shock loading, and a square plate with an insulated crack. For all problems that are considered good agreement is obtained between peridynamics (PD) predictions and finite element method (FEM) results

    A novel mitochondrial carrier protein Mme1 acts as a yeast mitochondrial magnesium exporter

    AbstractThe homeostasis of magnesium (Mg2+), an abundant divalent cation indispensable for many biological processes including mitochondrial functions, is underexplored. Previously, two mitochondrial Mg2+ importers, Mrs2 and Lpe10, were characterized for mitochondrial Mg2+ uptake. We now show that mitochondrial Mg2+ homeostasis is accurately controlled through the combined effects of previously known importers and a novel exporter, Mme1 (mitochondrial magnesium exporter 1). Mme1 belongs to the mitochondrial carrier family and was isolated for its mutation that is able to suppress the mrs2Δ respiration defect. Deletion of MME1 significantly increased steady-state mitochondrial Mg2+ concentration, while overexpression decreased it. Measurements of Mg2+ exit from proteoliposomes reconstituted with purified Mme1 provided definite evidence for Mme1 as an Mg2+ exporter. Our studies identified, for the first time, a mitochondrial Mg2+ exporter that works together with mitochondrial importers to ensure the precise control of mitochondrial Mg2+ homeostasis

    Discovery of 21 New Changing-look AGNs in Northern Sky

    The rare case of changing-look (CL) AGNs, with the appearance or disappearance of broad Balmer emission lines within a few years, challenges our understanding of the AGN unified model. We present a sample of 21 new CL AGNs at 0.08<z<0.580.08<z<0.58, which doubles the number of such objects known to date. These new CL AGNs were discovered by several ways, from (1) repeat spectra in the SDSS, (2) repeat spectra in the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) and SDSS, and (3) photometric variability and new spectroscopic observations. We use the photometric data from surveys, including the SDSS imaging survey, the Pan-STARRS1, the DESI Legacy imaging survey, the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), the Catalina Real-time Transient Survey, and the Palomar Transient Factory. The estimated upper limits of transition timescale of the CL AGNs in this sample spans from 0.9 to 13 years in the rest frame. The continuum flux in the optical and mid-infrared becomes brighter when the CL AGNs turn on, or vice versa. Variations of more than 0.2 mag in W1W1 band were detected in 15 CL AGNs during the transition. The optical and mid-infrared variability is not consistent with the scenario of variable obscuration in 10 CL AGNs at more than 3σ3\sigma confidence level. We confirm a bluer-when-brighter trend in the optical. However, the mid-infrared WISE colors W1W2W1-W2 become redder when the objects become brighter in the W1W1 band, possibly due to a stronger hot dust contribution in the W2W2 band when the AGN activity becomes stronger.     Haematology specimen acceptability: a national survey in Chinese laboratories

    Introduction: Specimen adequacy is a crucial preanalytical factor affecting accuracy and usefulness of test result. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and reasons for rejected haematology specimens, preanalytical variables which may affect specimen quality, and consequences of rejection, and provide suggestions on monitoring quality indicators as to obtain a quality improvement. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted and a questionnaire was sent to 1586 laboratories. Participants were asked to provide general information about institution and practices on specimen management and record rejections and reasons for rejection from 1st to 31st July. Results: A total survey response rate was 56% (890/1586). Of 10,181,036 tubes received during the data collection period, 11,447 (0.11%) were rejected, and the sigma (σ) was 4.6. The main reason for unacceptable specimens was clotted specimen (57%). Rejected specimens were related to source department, container type, container material type, transportation method and phlebotomy personnel. The recollection of 84% of the rejected specimens was required. The median specimen processing delay in inpatient, outpatient and emergency department were 81.0 minutes, 57.0 minutes and 43.3 minutes, respectively. Conclusions: Overall, rejection rate was a slightly lower than previously published data. In order to achieve a better quality in the preanalytical phase, haematology laboratories in China should pay more attention on training for phlebotomy and sample transportation, identify main reasons for clotted specimen and take effective measures. The platform in the study will be helpful for long-term monitoring, but simplification and modification should be introduced in the following investigation

    Vetting undesirable behaviors in android apps with permission use analysis

    Android platform adopts permissions to protect sensitive resources from untrusted apps. However, after permissions are granted by users at install time, apps could use these permissions (sensitive resources) with no further restrictions. Thus, recent years have witnessed the explosion of undesirable behaviors in Android apps. An important part in the defense is the accurate analysis of Android apps. However, traditional syscall-based analysis techniques are not well-suited for Android, because they could not capture critical interactions between the application and the Android system. This paper presents VetDroid, a dynamic analysis platform for reconstructing sensitive behaviors in Android apps from a novel permission use perspective. VetDroid features a systematic frame-work to effectively construct permission use behaviors, i.e., how applications use permissions to access (sensitive) system resources, and how these acquired permission-sensitive resources are further utilized by the application. With permission use behaviors, security analysts can easily examine the internal sensitive behaviors of an app. Using real-world Android malware, we show that VetDroid can clearly reconstruct fine-grained malicious behaviors to ease malware analysis. We further apply VetDroid to 1,249 top free apps in Google Play. VetDroid can assist in finding more information leaks than TaintDroid [24], a state-of-the-art technique. In addition, we show howwe can use VetDroid to analyze fine-grained causes of information leaks that TaintDroid cannot reveal. Finally, we show that VetDroid can help identify subtle vulnerabilities in some (top free) applications otherwise hard to detect
