Education for Sustainable Development: Research overview

This discussion paper outlines some of the main characteristics of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), particularly in the context of ‘development’ and ‘globalization’. It addresses the various interpretations and meanings of ESD, shows how these relate to environmental education and emerging educations that overlap with SD-issues and introduces sustainability competence as a key outcome of ESD. The paper also outlines some regional trends that affect the way ESD manifests itself in the various countries and regions around the world. Some key developments affecting ESD are introduced, including globalization, the rise of the information and knowledge society, the utilization of diversity and the need for the inclusion of marginalized groups and perspectives

Weven met groen : schetsboek van groene thema's in formeel en buitenschools onderwijs

Aan beleidsmedewerkers en anderen die zich inzetten voor een stevige verankering van groene thema’s in de leefwereld van kinderen hopen wij inzicht te kunnen bieden in verschillende kansrijke mogelijkheden om dit te realiseren. Hiervoor hebben ruim 40 deskundigen op het gebied van natuur- en milieueducatie (NME), onderwijs en beleid hun licht laten schijnen op de huidige ontwikkelingen in onderwijs, maatschappij en in de NME-sector zelf. Tevens is er gezocht naar enkele succesvolle arrangementen die inzicht geven in factoren die bijdragen tot een structurele inbedding. Deze ‘groene toparrangementen’ zoals wij die hier noemen, zijn samenwerkingsverbanden tussen scholen en organisaties op het gebied van natuur en milieueducatie, maar waarbij ook gemeenten, provincies en andere belanghebbenden, via een (min of meer) gezamenlijk aanbod er voor zorgen dat belangrijke groene thema’s een grotere kans hebben om structureel in het onderwijsaanbod opgenomen te worden
