Film, Dreams, and MMORPGs: Cultural Leakage and Digital Gaming Literacy in Inception
The confluence of art, technology, and texts is unavoidable and yet remains under-addressed in scholarship. Technological artifacts, while prevalent in digital gaming, are seldom examined in terms of their contribution to other artistic artifacts. Specifically, MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role-playing games) as texts are rarely considered in terms of their relevance to digital and artistic literacy. Residing within are rich cultural discourses that address the entertainment of escapism and their affiliated connection to addiction, loss of identity, and violence resulting from prolonged immersion. Not surprisingly these tensions are reflected in other texts such as film. In the current examination, a rhetorical analysis uses a close reading of Inception to examine cultural leakages of digital gaming issues entering into and shaping film discourse. Implications and societal impact of issues such as dream worlds, fantasy attractions, and counter strategies are discussed both as recommendation and social commentary
Effects of Negative Energy Components in the Constituent Quark Model
Relativistic covariance requires that in the constituent quark model for
mesons the positive energy states as well as the negative energy states are
included. Using relativistic quasi-potential equations the contribution of the
negative energy states is studied for the light and charmonium mesons. It is
found that these states change the meson mass spectrum significantly but leave

Lorentz invariance of effective strings
Starting from a Poincar\'e invariant field theory of a real scalar field with
interactions governed by a double-well potential in 2+1 dimensions, the Lorentz
representation induced on the collective coordinates describing low-energy
excitations about an effective string background is derived. In this
representation, Lorentz transformations are given in terms of an infinite
series, in powers of derivatives along the worldsheet. Transformations that act
on the direction transverse to the string worldsheet involve a universal
dimension term. As a consequence, Lorentz invariance holds in this theory
of long effective strings due to cancellations in the action between irrelevant
terms and the dimension two term that describes free massless scalar fields in

Introducing this special issue of the Journal of Literacy and Technology, the second part of the two-part special issues focusing on the COVID-19 “suddenly online” transition to remote/virtual eLearning modalities during the Spring of 2020. This article introduces the emergency voices from the field arising from the COVID-19 “suddenly online” transition to remote/virtual eLearning modalities during the Spring of 2020. This rare, and perhaps “once in a lifetime” momentous COVID-19 pandemic induced a paradigmatic shift in teaching and learning modalities. The first-hand eyewitness accounts which emerged from the turbulent months of the “suddenly online” transition in education are important to capture direct reports from participant observers of the experience. That in this case, many of these participant-observers are also trained educators, academic researchers, and able to provide meta-perspectives on those experiences makes recollections, reports, and perspectives even more remarkable and essential
Providing Foundations for an Educational Revolution: Moving Towards an Integrated Perspective
The pandemic of Spring 2020 necessitated a rapid switch in teaching methods around the world. Most significantly was the revolutionary transition from face to face instruction to remote, distance, or virtual teaching/learning and the resultant online “new normal” that continues to ripple across the academy and society at large. This new reality has necessitated a paradigmatic shift in how scholars, teachers and administrators understand, create, employ, and assess teaching/learning. It has likewise resulted in a shift in how students, parents, families, and employers understand, value, desire, and prefer educational formats and settings. The authors point to the importance of considering aspects of theory, research, and best practices related to this transition. The article surveys resulting first response scholarship and forecast types of questions that loom large regarding the practice of online teaching in the new economic, academic, social framework
The role of epigenetics in cardiovascular health and ageing: A focus on physical activity and nutrition
The cardiovascular system is responsible for transport of blood and nutrients to tissues, and is pivotal to the physiological health and longevity. Epigenetic modification is a natural, age-associated process resulting in highly contextualised gene expression with clear implications for cell differentiation and disease onset. Biological/epigenetic age is independent of chronological age, constituting a highly reflective snapshot of an individual\u27s overall health. Accelerated vascular ageing is of major concern, effectively lowering disease threshold. Age-related chronic illness involves a complex interplay between many biological processes and is modulated by non-modifiable and modifiable risk factors. These alter the static genome by a number of epigenetic mechanisms, which change gene expression in an age and lifestyle dependent manner. This \u27epigenetic drift\u27 impacts health and contributes to the etiology of chronic illness. Lifestyle factors may cause acceleration of this epigenetic "clock", pre-disposing individuals to cardiovascular disease. Nutrition and physical activity are modifiable lifestyle choices, synergistically contributing to cardiovascular health. They represent a powerful potential epigenetic intervention point for effective cardiovascular protective and management strategies. Thus, together with traditional risk factors, monitoring the epigenetic signature of ageing may prove beneficial for tailoring lifestyle to fit biology - supporting the increasingly popular concept of "ageing well"
Mean-atom-trajectory model for the velocity autocorrelation function of monatomic liquids
We present a model for the motion of an average atom in a liquid or
supercooled liquid state and apply it to calculations of the velocity
autocorrelation function and diffusion coefficient . The model
trajectory consists of oscillations at a distribution of frequencies
characteristic of the normal modes of a single potential valley, interspersed
with position- and velocity-conserving transits to similar adjacent valleys.
The resulting predictions for and agree remarkably well with MD
simulations of Na at up to almost three times its melting temperature. Two
independent processes in the model relax velocity autocorrelations: (a)
dephasing due to the presence of many frequency components, which operates at
all temperatures but which produces no diffusion, and (b) the transit process,
which increases with increasing temperature and which produces diffusion.
Because the model provides a single-atom trajectory in real space and time,
including transits, it may be used to calculate all single-atom correlation

Exact Path-Integral Representations for the -Matrix in Nonrelativistic Potential Scattering
Several path integral representations for the -matrix in nonrelativistic
potential scattering are given which produce the complete Born series when
expanded to all orders and the eikonal approximation if the quantum
fluctuations are suppressed. They are obtained with the help of "phantom"
degrees of freedom which take away explicit phases that diverge for asymptotic
times. Energy conservation is enforced by imposing a Faddeev-Popov-like
constraint in the velocity path integral. An attempt is made to evaluate
stochastically the real-time path integral for potential scattering and
