    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship among Person Organization Fit (POF), Organizational Commitment (OC) and Knowledge Sharing Attitude (KSA). The paper develops a conceptual frame based on a theory and literature review. A quantitative approach has been used to measure the level of POF and OC as well as to explore the relationship of these variables with KSA & with each other by using a sample of 315 academic managers of public sector institutions of higher education. POF has a positive relationship with OC and KSA. A positive relationship also exists between OC and KSA. It would be an effective contribution in the existing body of knowledge. Managers and other stakeholders may be helped to recognize the significance of POF, OC and KSA as well as their relationship with each other for ensuring selection of employee’s best fitted in the organization and for creating and maintaining a conducive environment for improving organizational commitment and knowledge sharing of the employees which will ultimately result in enhanced efficacy and effectiveness of the organization

Potential use of γδ T cell-based vaccines in cancer immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is a fast advancing methodology involving one of two approaches: (1) compounds targeting immune checkpoints and (2) cellular immunomodulators. The latter approach is still largely experimental and features in vitro generated, live immune effector cells, or antigen-presenting cells. γδ T cells are known for their efficient in vitro tumor killing activities. Consequently, many laboratories worldwide are currently testing the tumor killing function of γδ T cells in clinical trials. Reported benefits are modest; however, these studies have demonstrated that large γδ T-cell infusions were well tolerated. Here, we discuss the potential of using human γδ T cells not as effector cells but as a novel cellular vaccine for treatment of cancer patients. Antigen-presenting γδ T cells do not require to home to tumor tissues but, instead, need to interact with endogenous, tumor-specific αβ T cells in secondary lymphoid tissues. Newly mobilized effector αβ T cells are then thought to overcome the immune blockade by creating proinflammatory conditions fit for effector T-cell homing to and killing of tumor cells. Immunotherapy may include tumor antigen-loaded γδ T cells alone or in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors

Bullet-induced synovitis as a cause of secondary osteoarthritis of the hip joint: a case report and review of literature

    Get PDF
Abstract BACKGROUND: With increasing prevalence of gunshot injuries we are seeing more patients with retained bullet fragments lodged in their bodies. Embedded lead bullets are usually considered inert after their kinetic energy has dissipated hence these are not removed routinely. However, exposure of any foreign body to synovial fluid may lead to rapid degradation and hence result in systemic absorption, causing local and systemic symptoms. We present the case of a thirty year old man who came to our out patient department with a history of progressive, severe hip pain ten years after a gun shot injury to his right hip. CONCLUSION: The common belief that intraarticular bullets should not be removed has no benefit and may result in unwanted long term complications

Devolved Ontology in Practice for a Seamless Semantic Alignment within Dynamic Collaboration Networks of SMEs

    Get PDF
The lack of a semantic alignment between collaborating small and medium enterprises causes frequent misinterpretations when exchanging information in the form of documents. If these companies are to achieve a seamless semantic alignment by exchanging documents, we should employ a conceptual model which does not rely on agreeing in advance on a centralised standard for document contents and format, but instead allows individual companies to maintain localised ontologies structuring their own documents allowing the companies to automatically establish a semantic alignment between pairs of collaborating companies, taking into account the ripple effects that such an alignment could trigger. In this article we demonstrate how the conceptual model of devolved ontology is engineered and tested to support such a scenario: we show how we have engineered the devolved ontology through a case study, and present experimental results on the document alignment intrinsically needed for this

    Get PDF
This paper presents results of detailed non-linear finite element analysis (FEA) of gasketed bolted flange pipe joints (GBFJ) of different sizes (1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 20 inch) of 900# pressure class for achieving proper preload close to the target stress values with and without considering yielding at bolt and flange and gasket crushing recommended by ASME and industrial guidelines for optimized performance using customized optimization algorithm. In addition, two strategies TCM (torque control method) and SCM (stretch control method) are used which is a normal practice in the industry

    Get PDF
White Leghorn layer breeder hens, 30 weeks of age, were divided into 12 groups (A-L). Group A was kept on basal feed and served as control, while group B was offered feed supplemented with vitamin E (100 mg/Kg). Groups C-G were offered feed containing 100, 500, 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 µg/Kg aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), respectively, whereas groups H-L were offered same dietary levels of AFB1 along with vitamin E (100 mg/Kg). The experimental feeds were offered for three weeks and afterward all the groups were switched over to basal feed for next two weeks. Body weight, absolute and relative weights of liver and kidneys of AF fed birds were significantly higher than control group. Pathological lesions in aflatoxin (AF) fed birds included enlarged, pale and friable liver, swollen kidneys and hemorrhages on different organs. Histopathological lesions in liver included fatty change, congestion and hemorrhages, while in kidneys tubular necrosis, cellular infiltration, congestion and hemorrhages were found in groups fed AFB1 at 500 μg/Kg and higher doses. In AF fed hens, no significant ameliorative effects of vitamin E could be observed upon AF induced decrease in feed intake, gross pathology and histopathological alterations and organ weight except body weights. It was concluded that the vitamin E ameliorated the AFB1 induced toxic effects in some of parameters studied

Purpose: To investigate the ethnomedicinal claims regarding the use of Acacia jacquemontii Benth. (Fabaceae) in fever, pain and inflammation. Methods: The methanol root bark extract (AJRBM) of the plant was used in the studies. Preliminary phytochemical screening of the extract was carried out according to established methods. Analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activities were evaluated using acetic acid-induced writhing, carrageennan-induced rat paw edema and Brewer’s yeast-induced pyrexia models, respectively. The extract was administered at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg. Aspirin (300 mg/kg, p.o.) was used as a reference drug in all models. Normal saline (10 mL/kg p.o.) was used as negative control. Results: Phytochemical screening results indicate the presence of cardioactive glycosides, tannins, flavonoids and saponins. In the acetic acid-induced writhing model, the methanol extract exhibited significant (p < 0.05) analgesic effect with 58.98 % reduction in writhing response at a dose of 100 mg/kg, compared with untreated control group. The extract significantly (p < 0.05) reduced carrageenan-induced edema at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg to 36.84 and 47.36 %, respectively, after 1h of extract administration. The extract exhibited predominantly dose-dependent antipyretic effect in Brewer’s yeast-induced pyrexia model. Maximum reduction in body temperature to 37.07 and 38.29 ºC at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg, respectively, was observed, compared with untreated group (38.90 ºC) after 1 h, but this was not significant (p < 0.05).Conclusion: The plant extract exerts inhibitory effect on peripheral pain stimuli, edema and dosedependent anti-pyrexia, and thus justifies the ethnomedicinal use of Acacia jacquemontii Benth. in the management of pain, fever and inflammation. Keywords: Acacia jacquemontii, Antipyretic, Analgesic, Anti-inflammator

In Islamic teachings, the effort to carry out Islamic da'wah is an obligation, so that Islam is great because of the vital flow of da'wah. In this technological era, da'wah must be continued by exploiting technology. To complete this discussion, we have conducted a series of literature searches on many online publications, including book journals and websites. In order to obtain valid findings, a series of analyzes involving the tuning coding system and critical evaluation under phenomenology have been carried out. Finally, we believe that the findings include that all Muslims must become a preacher by having Islamic knowledge and skills in using technologically advanced da'wah facilities. Hopefully, this finding will complement the study of da'wah and the technological revolution in the future

Hybrid CV-CC operation of capacitive deionization in comparison with constant current and constant voltage

    Get PDF
This research article published by Taylor & Francis Online, 2016Capacitive deionization (CDI) is a technique used to desalinate saline water by means of electrical potential applied to the electrode along both sides of a spacer channel through which water flows. CDI operates either at constant voltage (CV) or at constant current (CC) operation to desalinate saline water. The purity of the water is the main requirement at the outlet of the cell. The lowest effluent concentration is achieved within a very short time by operating the CDI cell at CV, but after that the effluent concentration continues to increase. On the other hand, in CC, the lowest concentration is achieved later as compared with CV, but once it is achieved it continues to remain constant until the target voltage is reached. In this paper, we combine both CV and CC operation to get the lowest concentration for maximum time during the adsorption process so that more desalinated water is produced. We compare hybrid CV-CC and constant voltage and constant current in terms of effluent concentration, energy consumption per ion removal, water recovery, and water quality by varying operational parameters like cell potential. It was observed that ultrapure water can be produced with hybrid CV-CC operation by systematically varying different process parameters like flow rate and cell potential to get better results

Analysis of Inertia Effect on Axisymmetric Squeeze Flow of Slightly Viscoelastic Fluid Film between Two Disks by Recursive Approach

    Get PDF
In this study, we analyzed the inertia effect on the axisymmetric squeeze flow of slightly viscoelastic fluid film between two disks. A system of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) in cylindrical coordinates, along with nonhomogenous boundary conditions, illustrates the phenomenon of fluid flow caused by squeezing with the inertia effect. The Langlois recursive approach was applied to obtain the analytical solution of the system having a stream function, axial and radial velocities, pressure distribution, normal and tangential stresses and normal squeeze force. These flow variables are also portrayed graphically to describe the effects of the Reynolds number and slightly viscoelastic parameter. The results show that by increasing the Reynolds number, the velocity profile decreases, and both the pressure distribution and shear stresses increase. Moreover, there is a small increase in normal squeeze force. When the slightly viscoelastic parameter approaches zero, the obtained solution of flow variables matches with the classical results. This study can be applied to understand the mechanism of load-bearing features in thrust bearings and in arthrodial human joint (knee and hip) diseases.Basque Government Grants IT1555-22 and KK-2022/00090; and MCIN/AEI 269.10.13039/501100011033 for Grant PID2021-1235430B-C21/C22
