    Literacy Culture in the Islamic Religious Education and the Development of Islam in Indonesia

    Globalization has enabled the development of Islam in one localized region with the help of global movements. What we do not much understand is how Turkish Ulama have contributed to develop Islamic literacy culture to enhance the development of Islam in Indonesia. This paper identified Jamaat Nur Movement who have utilized globalization to establish literacy culture among Indonesian Muslims and introduced the works of Bediuzzaman Said Nursi. Through careful study of this global movement, this study seeks to understand how a global Muslim organization took advantage from globalization and what are the local Muslims responses to it. This is a qualitative research with observation, interview, as well as library research as tools of data collection. The research keen to understand how globalization has become a tool for development of Islamic organization in Indonesia.Globalisasi telah memungkinkan pengembangan Islam di satu wilayah dengan bantuan gerakan global. Fenomena ini juga terjadi di Indonesia. Namun, apa yang tidak banyak kita pahami adalah bagaimana Ulama Turki telah berkontribusi untuk mengembangkan budaya literasi Islam untuk meningkatkan perkembangan Islam di Indonesia. Artikel ini berupaya mengidentifikasi Gerakan Nur Jamaat yang telah memanfaatkan globalisasi untuk membangun budaya literasi di kalangan Muslim Indonesia dan memperkenalkan karya-karya Bediuzzaman Said Nursi. Melalui penelitian yang cermat terhadap gerakan global ini, studi ini berupaya memahami bagaimana organisasi Muslim global mengambil keuntungan dari globalisasi dan apa tanggapan Muslim lokal terhadapnya. Ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan observasi, wawancara, serta penelitian kepustakaan sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Penelitian ini memuncak berupaya untuk memahami bagaimana globalisasi telah menjadi mekanisme yang positif dalam perkembangan organisasi Islam di Indonesia

    The Discourse of Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama with Considerations of Geertz’s Religion of Java

    Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama are two biggest Muslim organizations in the most populous Muslim country, Indonesia. Many studies have conducted to identify both roles in the Indonesian Islam context. However, there is lack study which actually traces possible similarities between the two. This paper illustrates the distinct description of the two organizations from the perspective of Clifford Geertz in his prominent work, the Religion of Java, where it covered some characteristics of the followers of both Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama. This study then continues with possible similar identification of Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama. This is qualitative study conducted through library research. This study concludes that despite the fact the differences, there are some similarities, which put the two organization together to contribute even more to the development of Islam in Indonesia. It then expects that the followers of both could work together to build peaceful Indonesian through better understanding of religious institutions such as the Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama.Muhammadiyah dan Nahdlatul Ulama adalah dua organisasi Muslim terbesar di negara berpenduduk Muslim terbanyak, Indonesia. Banyak penelitian telah dilakukan untuk mengidentifikasi kedua peran tersebut dalam konteks Islam Indonesia. Namun, ada kekurangan studi untuk menelusuri kemungkinan kesamaan antara keduanya. Paper ini menggambarkan deskripsi yang berbeda dari kedua organisasi tersebut dari perspektif Clifford Geertz dalam karya utamanya, the Religion of Java, di mana Geertz meliput beberapa karakteristik pengikut Muhammadiyah dan Nahdlatul Ulama. Studi ini kemudian berlanjut dengan identifikasi common grounds dari Muhammadiyah dan Nahdlatul Ulama. Penelitian kualitatif ini dilakukan melalui penelitian kepustakaan. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa terlepas dari kenyataan perbedaannya, ada beberapa kesamaan, yang membuat kedua organisasi tersebut bersama-sama berkontribusi lebih pada pengembangan Islam di Indonesia. Kemudian diharapkan para pengikutnya untuk bisa bekerja sama untuk membangun Indonesia yang damai melalui pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang institusi keagamaan Islam seperti Muhammadiyah dan Nahdlatul Ulam

    Turkish Sufi Organizations and The Development of Islamic Education in Indonesia

    Sufism has contributed substantially in the development of Islam across the globe. It is also the case of Indonesia. Sufi preachers have been noticed as among the early Muslims who conveyed and disseminate Islam in the Archipelago. This trend seems to be repeated in this current Indonesian Islam. However, what is commonly unknown, Turkish organization also takes part in this current mode. Particularly, it is with the Islamic transnational organization from Turkey operating in Indonesia as the actors. This article aims at discussing the Sufi elements within three Turkish based transnational communities in Indonesian Islam and their contribution to Islamic education as part of Islamic development in the current Indonesia. This is a qualitative research to the topics within the three Turkish origin transnational Islamic organizations, namely the Jamaat Nur, the Fethullah GĂźlen Affiliated Movement, and the Suleymaniyah. This article will then argue that Sufism has continued to be one of the contributing factors for the development of Islam and in relation to that the Sufi elements within the three Turkish Transnational organizations also contribute to their acceptance in Indonesia. Overall, the Sufi elements have shaped the image and identity of the Turkish Muslims in developing the Islamic studies in Indonesia

Actually the Islamic thought, Human Rights and Indonesian Constitutions are clear regulations to show what are the rights of children. The regulation also did not support the discrimination among child domestic workers, however we still see the child domestic workers related problems

    Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan model Course review horay terhadap hasil belajar Biologi siswa kelas X MIPA SMAN 2 Makassar pada materi virus dengan desain penelitian “Pretest-Posttest Control Group Desain”. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas X MIPA SMAN 2 Makassar yang terdiri dari empat kelas. Sampel penelitian ini sebanyak dua kelas yaitu kelas X MIPA 2 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas X MIPA 3 sebagai kelas control yang dipilih secara purposive sampling . Variabel penelitian terdiri dari variabel bebas yaitu model Course Review Horay sedangkan variabel terikat yaitu hasil belajar siswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pemberian pretest dan posttest. Data dianalisis dengan statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensial dengan bantuan SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions) versi 24. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada nilai rata-rata hasil belajar posttest kelas esperimen 86,15 dan kelas kontrol yaitu 65,25. Pada uji hipotesis melalui Independen Sample T- Test dengan nilai p=0,000< a = 0,05 dengan demikian Model Course Review Horay berpengaruh terhadap hasil belajar siswa Kelas X MIPA SMAN 2 Makassar

    Propaganda and Da’wah in Digital Era (A Case of Hoax Cyber-Bullying Against Ulama)

    The presence of the media with all conveniences has surrounded the lives of Muslims. The patterns and models of da’wah developed by the da'i should adjust to the era of information and communication technology. However, under the pretext of freedom, many media appearances tend to damage social values and order. The purpose of this study is to analysis the elements of propaganda and da’wah in the movement of cyber-bullying of scholars through the hoax which based on the existence of problems in Islamic da’wah done with contradictive, and online media utilized with provocative. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research which is using documentation and direct observation by accessing the website then the data collected is analyzed by filling system analysis. The data source was obtained from an online web that broadcasted the news with the keywords da’wah, bullying ulama and hoaxes. The result of research indicates that element of da’wah only exist in cyber-bullying while the hoax more prominent in propaganda side. The data found are (1) the existence of ulama propaganda movements which are bullied; (2) propagation of ulama through hoaxes; and (3) the existence of perpetrators of cyber-bullying ulama movements; however (4) there are several parties responsible for overcoming cyber-bullying through hoax

    Ma‘had 'Aly and the Challenge of Modernizing Islamic Education in Indonesia

    This paper discovers one of the pesantren models in Indonesia that is considered understudied, the University Level of Pesantren (Ma‘had ‘Aly), pesantren which santris are the university students. Particularly, this paper explains the struggle of Pondok Pesantren Darus Sunnah in facing the challenges of modernizing Islamic Education in Indonesia. Over time, the majority of pesantren adopted modernization to meet the demands from the society and to gain broader recognition from the government. However, the Pondok Pesantren Darus Sunnah is one of the pesantrens that delay the modernization. This paper aims at explaining the reasons for the reluctance of Pondok Pesantren Darus Sunnah to respond to the modernization. To answer the above question, this study employs a qualitative approach with auto-ethnography as the main data-collection tool. The author takes the advantage of the author's experience while being a santri and ustadz at the Darus Sunnah Islamic Boarding School with observations as additional data collection methods. In brief, this study suggests that the Pondok Pesantren Darus Sunnah currently rejects modernization because it reduces the authority and traditional identity of the pesantren. Pondok Pesantren Darus Sunnah prefers to keep the traditional pesantren in line with the advice of the charismatic founder of the pesantren. The traditional model of pesantren has been proven to have produced qualified alumni who play significant role both at national and international levels. This paper also proposes degree equivalence as a solution to this issue of modernizing Islamic education institution.Paper ini menjelaskan salah satu model pesantren di Indonesia yang cukup jarang dibahas, Ma‘had ‘Aly, pesantren yang santrinya adalah mahasiswa. Secara khusus paper ini menjelaskan pergulatan Pondok Pesantren Darus Sunnah dalam menghadapi tantangan modernisasi Pendidikan Islam di Indonesia. Sejalan dengan waktu, mayoritas pesantren mengadopsi modernisasi demi memenuhi tuntutan masyarakat dan pengakuan yang lebih luas dari pemerintah. Namun demikian, Pondok Pesantren Darus Sunnah adalah salah satu pesantren yang masih belum bisa menerima tawaran modernisasi pesantren tersebut secara menyeluruh. Paper ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan alasan keengganan Pondok Pesantren Darus Sunnah dalam merespons modernisasi. Untuk menjawab pertanyaan di atas, penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode pengambilan data auto-ethnography. Penulis memanfaatkan pengalaman penulis selama menjadi santri dan pengajar di Pondok Pesantren Darus Sunnah dengan dilengkapi observasi dan wawancara. Secara singkat penelitian ini mengisyaratkan bahwa Pondok Pesantren Darus Sunnah menolak modernisasi dari segi kurikulum karena hal tersebut mereduksi otoritas dan identitas tradisional pesantren. Pondok Pesantren Darus Sunnah lebih memilih untuk menjaga ke-tradisional-an pesantren sesuai dengan dawuh dari pendiri pesantren. Model Pesantren Tradisional yang selama ini dijaga terbukti telah melahirkan alumni yang berkualitas dan memainkan peran yang besar baik di level nasional maupun internasional. Paper ini juga mengajukan penyetaraan ijazah setingkat strata satu sebagai salah satu solusinya

    This study aims at describing the definition of character education and finding the core argumentation in Islamic teaching through analysis of Quran and Hadis, the two sources in Islam. This research employs qualitative methodology and uses library research at a major method. This includes the published, online, and digital references. The output of this study shows that the character education has its argumentation in Islamic teachings, both form Quran and hadits. And it is suggested that there will be a further study to combine the values from Islamic teaching related to character education with modern method that has been developed in Western cultures
