Non-uniform mesh high-order discretization for the generalized Burgers Equations

    Get PDF
Using several properties of the polynomial splines, we first discuss the discretization of the first order spatial derivatives at different nodal points. Using such discretization we derive a scheme that is fourthorder accurate for the numerical solution of parabolic PDEs on a non-uniform mesh. Finally, we discuss the stability theory and compute the numerical results to illustrate the reliability of the scheme

Strengthening Parental Engagement in Low-Income Latino Communities

Avenue Community Development Corporation (Avenue CDC) saw the necessity of increasing parent engagement while fostering leadership development in Houston’s Northside community. The primary goals of Avenue CDC’s Family Leadership Program are to actively engage parents in their children’s education at all grade levels and foster strong relationships between parents, teachers, administrators and the district at large through establishing a dedicated parent leadership team in the community. We aim at providing each school with an opportunity to engage parents through a proven organizing method developed by Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Houston and Avenue CDC, and parents with a chance to learn how to navigate the school system, monitor their children’s academic development, contribute to the schools’ activities and events, and ultimately advocate for the educational rights of children growing up in the neighborhood

Introductions: Helicobacter pylori is one of the common and medicallyprominent infections worldwide and an established etiological factor for pepticulcer disease. This study was conducted to compare the results of two types ofRapid Urease Tests (RUT) for H. pylori infection. Methods: This study was conducted in patients with gastro duodenal diseasesvisiting Kantipur Hospital from June to August 2010. Antral biopsies werecollected from sixty patients visiting endoscopy unit. The diagnosis was of H.pylori infection carried out using two types of rapid urease tests (commercialand homemade) as well as Histopathology. Results: H. pylori infection was detected in 34 (56.67%) of 60 by histologicaltest, 24 (40%) by homemade kit method and 28 (46.67%) by commercial RUTmethod. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negativepredictive value (NPV) for RUT (commercial kit) considering histology as goldstandard were 76.74%, 92.31%, 92.85% and 75% respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV for RUT (homemade kit) were 58.82%, 84.62%, 83.3% and 61.11% respectively. Conclusions: Homemade rapid urease test was sensitive and specific fordetection of H. pylori infection than commercial test. Keywords: helicobacter pylori, peptic ulcer, rapid urease tes

Introductions: Patients with chronic kidney disease have a high burden of somatic symptoms which may be due to depression. This study analyses occurrence of depression in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis (HD) at a tertiary care center in Kathmandu, Nepal. Methods: This is a retrospective study done at Patan Hospital, a tertiary care teaching hospital of Patan Academy of Health sciences, Lalitpur, Nepal. Translated in Nepali language and validated Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) was used. A cut-off of 16/17 was used to define depression.  Results: Altogether 56 patients were included, mean age 54.375±17.87 years, time on HD 25.06±21.58 months, BDI score 19.18±10.16. The prevalence of depression was 51.8%. There was no significant differences of BDI score and rate of depression in genders, housing status, education level, alcohol intake, presence of co-morbidity and shift of HD. However, there was a significant association of BDI score and the employment status, p=0.026 and the affordability of erythropoiesis stimulating agent, p=0.033. Conclusions: Depression was common in patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment and the rate of depression was significantly lower in the patients who were employed and used of erythropoiesis stimulating agent. Keywords: chronic kidney disease, depression, hemodialysi
