Effects of App Name Suffixes and App Information Quality on Consumersā Perceived App Value
The fast growth of smartphones, tablets, and other Internet connected devices allows consumers to use mobile applications (apps) to meet their varying needs. In the current market, only a few successful apps are widely accepted and downloaded by consumers, leaving the vast majority of the remaining ones barely tried. However, research has been scant to address potential factors influencing consumersā purchase decision making for apps. This paper addresses this gap in the literature by proposing a unique perspective on the role of two app factors (1) app brand naming and (2) app information quality as well as a consumer factor, need for cognition, that may influence app consumersā value perception for paid apps
Cervical lymph node metastatic patterns of squamous carcinomas in the upper aerodigestive tract
The radical neck dissection specimens of 384 ethnically Chinese patients with different primary squamous carcinomas in the head and neck region were studied. Over 50 per cent of the specimens showed metastatic disease at one level in the neck. For oral cavity carcinoma, the levels of metastasis frequently involved were I, II and III while for carcinoma of the oropharynx, hypopharynx and larynx, the levels were II, III and IV. Extracapsular spread was present in 112/384 of patients (29 per cent) and this increased with advancing N-stages. Based on these findings, different selective neck dissections could be used for patients harbouring different primary head and neck carcinomas with limited neck disease.published_or_final_versio

MicroRNA 744-3p promotes MMP-9-mediated metastasis by simultaneously suppressing PDCD4 and PTEN in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma
MicroRNA controls cancer invasion by governing the expression of gene regulating migration and invasion. Here, we reported a novel regulatory pathway controlled by miR-744-3p, which enhanced expression of matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP-9) in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). We profiled the differential micoRNA expression pattern in LSCC cell lines and normal epithelial cultures derived from the head and neck mucosa using microRNA microarray. MiR-7-1-3p, miR-196a/b and miR-744-3p were expressed differentially in the LSCC cell lines. Subsequent validation using real-time PCR revealed that high miR-744-3p level was positively correlated with regional lymph node metastasis of LSCC. Real-time cellular kinetic analysis showed that suppressing miR-744-3p could inhibit migration and invasion of LSCC cell lines and reduce the number of lung metastatic nodules in nude mice modules. In silico analysis revealed that miR-744-3p targeted 2 distinct signaling cascades which eventually upregulated MMP-9 expression in LSCC. First, miR-744-3p could suppress programmed cell death 4 (PDCD4), a direct suppressor of NF-ĪŗB (p65). PDCD4 could also prevent AKT activation and suppress MMP-9 expression. Further, suppressing miR-744-3p expression could restore phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) expression. PTEN could inhibit AKT activation and inhibit MMP-9 expression in LSCC cells. The results revealed that suppressing miR-744-3p was effective to inhibit LSCC metastasis by inactivating AKT/mTOR and NF-ĪŗB (p65) signaling cascade. Targeting miR-744-3p could be a valuable therapeutic intervention to suppress the aggressiveness of LSCC.published_or_final_versio
High-performance triazole-containing brush polymers via azide-alkyne click chemistry: a new functional polymer platform for electrical memory devices
Two series of well-defined brush polymers bearing a triazole moiety on each bristle were prepared from the click chemistry reactions of a poly(glycidyl azide) (PG) and a poly(4-azidomethylstyrene) (PS) with alkyne derivatives. The thin-film morphologies and properties, especially electrical memory performances, of these triazole-containing brush polymers were investigated in detail. The brush polymers with a triazole ring substituted with an alkyl or alkylenylphenyl group in the bristle exhibited only dielectric characteristics. By contrast, the other brush polymers bearing a triazole ring substituted with phenyl or its derivatives with a longer pi-conjugation length in the bristle demonstrated excellent unipolar permanent memory behaviors with low power consumption, high ON/OFF current ratios and high stability and reliability under ambient air conditions. Furthermore, their memory type could be tuned to p- or n-type by the incorporation of an electron-donating or -accepting group into the phenyl unit linked to the triazole moiety. Overall, this study presents the first demonstration of the azide-alkyne click chemistry synthesis of triazole moieties with substituent(s) that exhibit a resonance effect; this approach is a very powerful synthetic route to develop electrical memory polymers suitable for the low-cost mass production of high-performance, polarity-free programmable memory devices.111711Ysciescopu
Suppressed Hysteretic Field Emission from Polymer Encapsulated Silver Nanowires
Suppression of the hysteretic electron emission in one-dimensional nanomaterial-based electron sources remains a critical barrier preventing their wide scale adoption in various vacuum electronics applications. Here, we report on the suppressed hysteretic performance, and its photo-dependence from conformal poly-vinylpyrrolidone encapsulated percolative Ag nanowire-based electron sources. This work was supported in part by the Oppenheimer Research Trust, Cambridge University, and an Impact Acceleration grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council
Nanosized superparamagnetic precipitates in cobalt-doped ZnO
The existence of semiconductors exhibiting long-range ferromagnetic ordering
at room temperature still is controversial. One particularly important issue is
the presence of secondary magnetic phases such as clusters, segregations,
etc... These are often tedious to detect, leading to contradictory
interpretations. We show that in our cobalt doped ZnO films grown
homoepitaxially on single crystalline ZnO substrates the magnetism
unambiguously stems from metallic cobalt nano-inclusions. The magnetic behavior
was investigated by SQUID magnetometry, x-ray magnetic circular dichroism, and
AC susceptibility measurements. The results were correlated to a detailed
microstructural analysis based on high resolution x-ray diffraction,
transmission electron microscopy, and electron-spectroscopic imaging. No
evidence for carrier mediated ferromagnetic exchange between diluted cobalt
moments was found. In contrast, the combined data provide clear evidence that
the observed room temperature ferromagnetic-like behavior originates from
nanometer sized superparamagnetic metallic cobalt precipitates.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures; details about background subtraction added to

PHOSIDA 2011: the posttranslational modification database
The primary purpose of PHOSIDA (http://www.phosida.com) is to manage posttranslational modification sites of various species ranging from bacteria to human. Since its last report, PHOSIDA has grown significantly in size and evolved in scope. It comprises more than 80ā000 phosphorylated, N-glycosylated or acetylated sites from nine different species. All sites are obtained from high-resolution mass spectrometric data using the same stringent quality criteria. One of the main distinguishing features of PHOSIDA is the provision of a wide range of analysis tools. PHOSIDA is comprised of three main components: the database environment, the prediction platform and the toolkit section. The database environment integrates and combines high-resolution proteomic data with multiple annotations. High-accuracy species-specific phosphorylation and acetylation site predictors, trained on the modification sites contained in PHOSIDA, allow the in silico determination of modified sites on any protein on the basis of the primary sequence. The toolkit section contains methods that search for sequence motif matches or identify de novo consensus, sequences from large scale data sets
