Noise bridges dynamical correlation and topology in coupled oscillator networks
We study the relationship between dynamical properties and interaction
patterns in complex oscillator networks in the presence of noise. A striking
finding is that noise leads to a general, one-to-one correspondence between the
dynamical correlation and the connections among oscillators for a variety of
node dynamics and network structures. The universal finding enables an accurate
prediction of the full network topology based solely on measuring the dynamical
correlation. The power of the method for network inference is demonstrated by
the high success rate in identifying links for distinct dynamics on both model
and real-life networks. The method can have potential applications in various

Bulge formation from SSCs in a responding cuspy dark matter halo
We simulate the bulge formation in very late-type dwarf galaxies from
circumnuclear super star clusters (SSCs) moving in a responding cuspy dark
matter halo (DMH). The simulations show that (1) the response of DMH to sinking
of SSCs is detectable only in the region interior to about 200 pc. The mean
logarithmic slope of the responding DM density profile over that area displays
two different phases: the very early descent followed by ascent till
approaching to 1.2 at the age of 2 Gyrs. (2) the detectable feedbacks of the
DMH response on the bulge formation turned out to be very small, in the sense
that the formed bulges and their paired nuclear cusps in the fixed and the
responding DMH are basically the same, both are consistent with
observations. (3) the yielded mass correlation of bulges to their nuclear
(stellar) cusps and the time evolution of cusps' mass are accordance with
recent findings on relevant relations. In combination with the consistent
effective radii of nuclear cusps with observed quantities of nuclear clusters,
we believe that the bulge formation scenario that we proposed could be a very

Continuous extremal optimization for Lennard-Jones Clusters
In this paper, we explore a general-purpose heuristic algorithm for finding
high-quality solutions to continuous optimization problems. The method, called
continuous extremal optimization(CEO), can be considered as an extension of
extremal optimization(EO) and is consisted of two components, one is with
responsibility for global searching and the other is with responsibility for
local searching. With only one adjustable parameter, the CEO's performance
proves competitive with more elaborate stochastic optimization procedures. We
demonstrate it on a well known continuous optimization problem: the
Lennerd-Jones clusters optimization problem.Comment: 5 pages and 3 figure
Entanglement control in one-dimensional random XY spin chain
The entanglement in one-dimensional random XY spin systems where the
impurities of exchange couplings and the external magnetic fields are
considered as random variables is investigated by solving the different
spin-spin correlation functions and the average magnetization per spin. The
entanglement dynamics near particular locations of the system is also studied
when the exchange couplings (or the external magnetic fields) satisfy three
different distributions(the Gaussian distribution, double-Gaussian
distribution, and bimodal distribution). We find that the entanglement can be
controlled by varying the strength of external magnetic field and the different
distributions of impurities. Moreover, the entanglement of some
nearest-neighboring qubits can be increased for certain parameter values of the

Spurious Shell Closures in the Relativistic Mean Field Model
Following a systematic theoretical study of the ground-state properties of
over 7000 nuclei from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line in the
relativistic mean field model [Prog. Theor. Phys. 113 (2005) 785], which is in
fair agreement with existing experimental data, we observe a few spurious shell
closures, i.e. proton shell closures at Z=58 and Z=92. These spurious shell
closures are found to persist in all the effective forces of the relativistic

Cone Phosphodiesterase-6γ’ Subunit Augments Cone PDE6 Holoenzyme Assembly and Stability in a Mouse Model Lacking Both Rod and Cone PDE6 Catalytic Subunits
Rod and cone phosphodiesterase 6 (PDE6) are key effector enzymes of the vertebrate phototransduction pathway. Rod PDE6 consists of two catalytic subunits PDE6α and PDE6β and two identical inhibitory PDE6γ subunits, while cone PDE6 is composed of two identical PDE6α’ catalytic subunits and two identical cone-specific PDE6γ’ inhibitory subunits. Despite their prominent function in regulating cGMP levels and therefore rod and cone light response properties, it is not known how each subunit contributes to the functional differences between rods and cones. In this study, we generated an rd10/cpfl1 mouse model lacking rod PDE6β and cone PDE6α’ subunits. Both rod and cone photoreceptor cells are degenerated with age and all PDE6 subunits degrade in rd10/cpfl1 mice. We expressed cone PDE6α’ in both rods and cones of rd10/cpfl1 mice by adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated delivery driven by the ubiquitous, constitutive small chicken β-actin promoter. We show that expression of PDE6α’ rescues rod function in rd10/cpfl1 mice, and the restoration of rod light sensitivity is attained through restoration of endogenous rod PDE6γ and formation of a functional PDE6α’γ complex. However, improved photopic cone responses were achieved only after supplementation of both cone PDE6α’ and PDE6γ’ subunits but not by PDE6α’ treatment alone. We observed a two fold increase of PDE6α’ levels in the eyes injected with both PDE6α’ plus PDE6γ’ relative to eyes receiving PDE6α’ alone. Despite the presence of both PDE6γ’ and PDE6γ, the majority of PDE6α’ formed functional complexes with PDE6γ’, suggesting that PDE6α’ has a higher association affinity for PDE6γ’ than for PDE6γ. These results suggest that the presence of PDE6γ’ augments cone PDE6 assembly and enhances its stability. Our finding has important implication for gene therapy of PDE6α’-associated achromatopsia
Expression of mutant TDP-43 induces neuronal dysfunction in transgenic mice
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Abnormal distribution, modification and aggregation of transactivation response DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43) are the hallmarks of multiple neurodegenerative diseases, especially frontotemporal lobar degeneration with ubiquitin-positive inclusions (FTLD-U) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Researchers have identified 44 mutations in the <it>TARDBP </it>gene that encode TDP-43 as causative for cases of sporadic and familial ALS <url>http://www.molgen.ua.ac.be/FTDMutations/</url>. Certain mutant forms of TDP-43, such as M337V, are associated with increased low molecular weight (LMW) fragments compared to wild-type (WT) TDP-43 and cause neuronal apoptosis and developmental delay in chick embryos. Such findings support a direct link between altered TDP-43 function and neurodegeneration.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>To explore the pathogenic properties of the M337V mutation, we generated and characterized two mouse lines expressing human TDP-43 (hTDP-43<sub>M337V</sub>) carrying this mutation. hTDP-43<sub>M337V </sub>was expressed primarily in the nuclei of neurons in the brain and spinal cord, and intranuclear and cytoplasmic phosphorylated TDP-43 aggregates were frequently detected. The levels of TDP-43 LMW products of ~25 kDa and ~35 kDa species were also increased in the transgenic mice. Moreover, overexpression of hTDP-43<sub>M337V </sub>dramatically down regulated the levels of mouse TDP-43 (mTDP-43) protein and RNA, indicating TDP-43 levels are tightly controlled in mammalian systems. TDP-43<sub>M337V </sub>mice displayed reactive gliosis, widespread ubiquitination, chromatolysis, gait abnormalities, and early lethality. Abnormal cytoplasmic mitochondrial aggregates and abnormal phosphorylated tau were also detected in the mice.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our novel TDP-43<sub>M337V </sub>mouse model indicates that overexpression of hTDP-43<sub>M337V </sub>alone is toxic <it>in vivo</it>. Because overexpression of hTDP-43 in wild-type TDP-43 and TDP-43<sub>M337V </sub>mouse models produces similar phenotypes, the mechanisms causing pathogenesis in the mutant model remain unknown. However, our results suggest that overexpression of the hTDP-43<sub>M337V </sub>can cause neuronal dysfunction due to its effect on a number of cell organelles and proteins, such as mitochondria and TDP-43, that are critical for neuronal activity. The mutant model will serve as a valuable tool in the development of future studies designed to uncover pathways associated with TDP-43 neurotoxicity and the precise roles TDP-43 RNA targets play in neurodegeneration.</p
Determinant representations of scalar products for the open XXZ chain with non-diagonal boundary terms

Different loading rates of photocatalysts Co3O4/C3N4 were prepared by calcination method. Their photocatalytic performances were evaluated by the degradation of methyl blue under visible light irradiation. The results show that the introduction of Co3O4 significantly improves the optical absorption properties of C3N4, which is beneficial to the separation of photogenerated electrons and holes on the surface of catalyst. The prepared Co3O4/C3N4 for visible photocatalytic degradation of methyl blue has higher catalytic efficiency than that of pure C3N4 or pure Co3O4. The best cobalt loading rate was 30% when the concentration of methylene blue was 40 mg/L. Recycling rate of 30% Co3O4/C3N4 composite catalyst was studied. After 4 cycles, the degradation rate was only slightly decreased from 86.8% to 82.8%, indicating the catalyst with good photostability and repeatability.nbs
Quantum Correlation in One-dimensional Extend Quantum Compass Model
We study the correlations in the one-dimensional extended quantum compass
model in a transverse magnetic field. By exactly solving the Hamiltonian, we
find that the quantum correlation of the ground state of one-dimensional
quantum compass model is vanishing. We show that quantum discord can not only
locate the quantum critical points, but also discern the orders of phase
transitions. Furthermore, entanglement quantified by concurrence is also
