    Solid-state interdiffusion reactions in Ni/Ti and Ni/Zr multilayered thin films

    We have performed a comparative transmission electron microscopy study of solid-state interdiffusion reactions in multilayered Ni/Zr and Ni/Ti thin films. The Ni-Zr reaction product was amorphous while the Ni-Ti reaction product was a simple intermetallic compound. Because thermodynamic and chemical properties of these two alloy systems are similar, we suggest kinetic origins for this difference in reaction product

    Graded Symmetry Algebras of Time-Dependent Evolution Equations and Application to the Modified KP equations

    By starting from known graded Lie algebras, including Virasoro algebras, new kinds of time-dependent evolution equations are found possessing graded symmetry algebras. The modified KP equations are taken as an illustrative example: new modified KP equations with mm arbitrary time-dependent coefficients are obtained possessing symmetries involving mm arbitrary functions of time.     Will mobile video become the killer application for 3G? - an empirical model for media convergence

    Mobile carriers have continually rolled out 3G mobile video applications to increase their revenue and profits. The presumption is that video is superior to the already successful SMS, ringtones, and pictures, and can create greater value to users. However, recent market surveys revealed contradicting results. Motivated by this discrepancy, we propose in this paper a parsimonious model for user acceptance of mobile entertainment as digital convergence. Integrating research on Information Systems, Flow, and Media Psychology, we take a unique approach to user acceptance of digital convergence - platform migration. Our key proposition is that the interaction between media types and the platform-specific constraints is the key determinant of user evaluation. Particularly, users' involvement in the media is determined by both the entertaining time span on the original platform and the attentional constraint of the new platform. The mismatch between the two spans can result in lower level involvement, which in turn cause no or even negative user emotional responses. The model was tested with empirical data.     Pion-photon and photon-pion transition form factors in light-cone formalism

    We derive the minimal Fock-state expansions of the pion and the photon wave functions in light-cone formalism, then we calculate the pion-photon and the photon-pion transition form factors of γ∗π0→γ\gamma ^{\ast}\pi ^{0}\to \gamma and γ∗γ→π0\gamma ^{\ast}\gamma \to \pi ^{0} processes by employing these quark-antiquark wave functions of the pion and the photon. We find that our calculation for the γ∗γ→π0\gamma ^{\ast}\gamma \to \pi ^{0} transition form factor agrees with the experimental data at low and moderately high energy scale. Moreover, the physical differences and inherent connections between the transition form factors of γ∗π0→γ\gamma ^{\ast}\pi ^{0}\to \gamma and γ∗γ→π0 \gamma ^{\ast}\gamma \to \pi ^{0} have been illustrated, which indicate that these two physical processes are intrinsically related. In addition, we also discuss the π0→γγ\pi ^{0}\to \gamma \gamma form factor and the decay width Γ(π→γγ) \mathit{\Gamma}(\pi \to \gamma \gamma) at Q2=0Q^{2}=0.Comment: 20 pages, 2 figure

    Heavy quarkonium 2S states in light-front quark model

    We study the charmonium 2S states ψ′\psi' and ηc′\eta_c', and the bottomonium 2S states Υ′\Upsilon' and ηb′\eta_b', using the light-front quark model and the 2S state wave function of harmonic oscillator as the approximation of the 2S quarkonium wave function. The decay constants, transition form factors and masses of these mesons are calculated and compared with experimental data. Predictions of quantities such as Br(ψ′→γηc′)(\psi' \to \gamma \eta_c') are made. The 2S wave function may help us learn more about the structure of these heavy quarkonia.Comment: 5 latex pages, final version for journal publicatio

    A Coupled AKNS-Kaup-Newell Soliton Hierarchy

    A coupled AKNS-Kaup-Newell hierarchy of systems of soliton equations is proposed in terms of hereditary symmetry operators resulted from Hamiltonian pairs. Zero curvature representations and tri-Hamiltonian structures are established for all coupled AKNS-Kaup-Newell systems in the hierarchy. Therefore all systems have infinitely many commuting symmetries and conservation laws. Two reductions of the systems lead to the AKNS hierarchy and the Kaup-Newell hierarchy, and thus those two soliton hierarchies also possess tri-Hamiltonian structures.Comment: 15 pages, late

    Binary Nonlinearization of Lax pairs of Kaup-Newell Soliton Hierarchy

    Kaup-Newell soliton hierarchy is derived from a kind of Lax pairs different from the original ones. Binary nonlinearization procedure corresponding to the Bargmann symmetry constraint is carried out for those Lax pairs. The proposed Lax pairs together with adjoint Lax pairs are constrained as a hierarchy of commutative, finite dimensional integrable Hamiltonian systems in the Liouville sense, which also provides us with new examples of finite dimensional integrable Hamiltonian systems. A sort of involutive solutions to the Kaup-Newell hierarchy are exhibited through the obtained finite dimensional integrable systems and the general involutive system engendered by binary nonlinearization is reduced to a specific involutive system generated by mono-nonlinearization.Comment: 15 pages, plain+ams tex, to be published in Il Nuovo Cimento
