Measures to enforce mandatory civil building energy efficiency codes in China
Mandatory civil building energy efficiency codes strictly govern the energy consumption of new buildings in China. As the promotion of building energy efficiency in China has increased in recent years, compliance with mandatory civil building energy efficiency codes has also improved, increasing from less than 10% in 2000 to nearly 100% in 2012, a remarkable achievement. However, because the promotion of energy efficiency strategies in China has followed a unique pattern, some researchers doubt these statistics. In response to these doubts, this paper summarises and analyses the framework of measures implemented by the Chinese government to enforce mandatory building energy efficiency codes. First, the development and implementation of China's mandatory civil building energy efficiency code system is summarised. Second, the building supervision and inspection systems used to assess energy efficiency are introduced and analysed in detail in order to provide a framework for the development of energy policies in other countries. Third, the assessment and reporting processes used to determine compliance rates are reviewed. Finally, the improvement of compliance rates and its impact on building energy savings in China are discussed. Along with the increase in compliance rates in the construction stage from 71% in 2007 to 100% in 2012, the energy savings of new buildings per increased floor area per year increased from 20.4 kWh/m2 to 28.4 kWh/m2. The supervision and inspection systems reported in this paper are the keys to enforcing building energy efficiency codes
Exact States in Waveguides With Periodically Modulated Nonlinearity
We introduce a one-dimensional model based on the nonlinear
Schrodinger/Gross-Pitaevskii equation where the local nonlinearity is subject
to spatially periodic modulation in terms of the Jacobi dn function, with three
free parameters including the period, amplitude, and internal form-factor. An
exact periodic solution is found for each set of parameters and, which is more
important for physical realizations, we solve the inverse problem and predict
the period and amplitude of the modulation that yields a particular exact
spatially periodic state. Numerical stability analysis demonstrates that the
periodic states become modulationally unstable for large periods, and regain
stability in the limit of an infinite period, which corresponds to a bright
soliton pinned to a localized nonlinearity-modulation pattern. Exact
dark-bright soliton complex in a coupled system with a localized modulation
structure is also briefly considered . The system can be realized in planar
optical waveguides and cigar-shaped atomic Bose-Einstein condensates.Comment: EPL, in pres
Study on the application of a new multiepoxy reinforcement agent for sheep leather
Content:
Leather is a kind of natural biomass composite material which is made of animal skin as material by a series of chemical and physical processing. Its main structure is Collagen fibers of three-dimensional
network structure. As we all know sheep leather always exist a common problem with low strength, while the strength of leather depended on the woven degree of collagen fibers. Through the past decades, many methods have been tried to improve the properties of sheep leather. The most commonly used methods are retanning. However, the strength enhancement of sheep leather is extremely limited by retanning, although the fullness and softness may be improved. In this study, a new type of multi-epoxy reinforcement agent (IGE) and IGE with the synergistic effect of polyamine (IGE-PA) were used to enhance the strength of sheep leather in tanning and fatliquoring process. Comparing with chromium tanned leather, it was found that under the optimized conditions (dosage: 10%, pH: 8, Temperature: 35â for penetration and 45â for fixation, tanning time: 10 h) with IGE as the main tanning agent, the tearing strength was increased 56.8%. While when the polyamine as the synergetic agent for IGE, the tearing strength was significantly increased 87.9%. While IGE and IGE-PA were used in fatliquoring process, it has significant reinforcement effect for tetrakis hydroxymethyl phosphonium (THP) salt tanned leather. It was found that under the optimized conditions (Dosage: 2.5%, pH: 7-8, Temperature: 50â, Time: 2h) with IGE in fatliquoring process, the tear strength was increased 50.24%, while the IGE-PA was used, the tear strength was increased 64.3%. Furthermore, TGA results showed that decomposition temperatures of IGE and IGE-PA enhanced leather were all higher than traditional chromium tanned leather. In addition, SEM results showed that IGE and IGE-PA enhanced leather obtained better opened-up fiber structure.
Take-Away:
1. A new type of multi-epoxy tanning agent (IGE) has reinforcement effect for sheep leather especially in tear strength.
2. IGE with the synergistic effect of polyamine (IGE-PA) were used in tanning process, which has a significant enhancement for the sheep leather.
3. IGE and IGE-PA can be also used in fatliquoring process to enhance the strength of sheep leather
Chaotic to ordered state transition of cathode-sheath instabilities in DC glow discharge plasmas
Transition from chaotic to ordered state has been observed during the initial
stage of a discharge in a cylindrical dc glow discharge plasma. Initially it
shows a chaotic behavior but increasing the discharge voltage changes the
characteristics of the discharge glow and shows a period substraction of order
7 period 5 period 3 period 1 period i.e. the system goes to
single mode through odd cycle subtraction. On further increasing the discharge
voltage, the system goes through period doubling, like 1 period 2 period
4 period. On further increasing the voltage, the system goes to stable
state without having any oscillations.Comment: chathode-sheath, instabilities, chaos, period-subtraction,

Three realizations of quantum affine algebra
In this article we establish explicit isomorphisms between three realizations
of quantum twisted affine algebra : the Drinfeld ("current")
realization, the Chevalley realization and the so-called realization,
investigated by Faddeev, Reshetikhin and Takhtajan.Comment: 15 page
Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory for Nonperturbative QCD
Nonperturbative QCD is studied with the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory, where
color confinement is realized through the dual Higgs mechanism by QCD-monopole
condensation. We obtain a general analytic formula for the string tension. A
compact formula is derived for the screened inter-quark potential in the
presence of light dynamical quarks. The QCD phase transition at finite
temperature is studied using the effective potential formalism. The string
tension and the QCD-monopole mass are largely reduced near the critical
temperature, . The surface tension is estimated from the effective
potential at . We propose also a new scenario of the quark-gluon-plasma
creation through the color-electric flux-tube annihilation. Finally, we discuss
a close relation between instantons and QCD-monopoles.Comment: Talk presented by H. Suganuma at the Int. Conf. ``CONFINEMENT95'',

Urban-scale building energy consumption database: A case study for Wuhan, China
Building energy consumption accounts for 30% of the overall energy end use worldwide. This number is even much higher in urban areas. With rapid urbanization in China, cities are expanding with new constructions. It is essential to create an updated urban-scale building energy consumption database to represent energy use for different types of buildings in China, which could help urban planners, managers and decision makers to understand temporal and spatial building energy consumption distribution and ensure required electricity and/or gas supply. However, such urban-scale database is rarely found in China. This paper creates baseline EnergyPlus models for residential, small office and large office buildings and validates the baseline models using survey data from literature. Parametric simulations are conducted to consider different design factors, such as building enclosure, lighting power density, equipment power density, HVAC schedule, etc. In total 351 EnergyPlus models are generated to cover different energy use intensity scenarios. Data-driven regression analysis is conducted to predict building energy consumption using building price/rent. The prediction results are expected to provide design decision support for urban planning and power distribution for new constructions
Broken time-reversal symmetry in Josephson junction involving two-band superconductors
A novel time-reversal symmetry breaking state is found theoretically in the
Josephson junction between the two-gap superconductor and the conventional
s-wave superconductor. This occurs due to the frustration between the three
order parameters analogous to the two antiferromagnetically coupled XY-spins
put under a magnetic field. This leads to the interface states with the
energies inside the superconducting gap. Possible experimental observations of
this state with broken time-reversal symmetry are discussed.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figur
Universal critical properties of the Eulerian bond-cubic model
We investigate the Eulerian bond-cubic model on the square lattice by means
of Monte Carlo simulations, using an efficient cluster algorithm and a
finite-size scaling analysis. The critical points and four critical exponents
of the model are determined for several values of . Two of the exponents are
fractal dimensions, which are obtained numerically for the first time. Our
results are consistent with the Coulomb gas predictions for the critical O()
branch for and the results obtained by previous transfer matrix
calculations. For , we find that the thermal exponent, the magnetic
exponent and the fractal dimension of the largest critical Eulerian bond
component are different from those of the critical O(2) loop model. These
results confirm that the cubic anisotropy is marginal at but irrelevant
