    The Effectiveness of Audit Guideline Using Directive Discourse for Control and Prevention of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus Infection

    Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection is one of the major problems in the hospital, due to its increasing of prevalence. The aim of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the Audit Guideline for control and prevention of MRSA infection, using directive discourse on nurses in hospitals. The Audit Guideline was focused on its effectiveness in improving the situation awareness of the nurses. This study was a quasi-experimental study using a pretest-posttest control group design. The population was ward nurses in a hospital. The samples were taken from four medical wards, two wards as the treatment group (25 nurses) and two wards as the control group (28 nurses). The two groups get the training of MRSA infection control and prevention. The training of the guideline of MRSA infection control and prevention using directive discourse was only applied in the treatment group. The analysis of the results of the situation awareness action was conducted, and the result of situation awareness action was improved from 0.8 response to 1.8 response (p = 0.014). This result was significantly difference because of the training using Audit Guideline for MRSA infections control and prevention with directive discourse become a positive reinforcement, the positive driven to stimulate behavior change of the nurses

    Quantitative Measurement and Imaging of Metal Fatigue

    A simple electrochemical technique is described, which images and quantitatively measures the distribution and severity of fatigue damage in aluminum alloys. The technique is based upon (i) the creation of microcracks in a surface anodic oxide film during fatigue of the underlying metal, and (ii) the detection of these microcracks by contacting the surface with a gel electrode. When a voltage pulse is applied, current passes through the fatigue—induced microcracks in the oxide film, and an image of the sites of current flow is retained in the surface of the gel. The capabilities of the technique are illustrated by measurements on 6061-T6, 7075-T6 and 2024-T4 aluminum. The electrochemically formed images correlated directly with scanning electron micrographs of the specimens. Hairline fatigue cracks ≥10 μm long are easily imaged, while the charge flow during the formation of the image is a quantitative measure of the crack length. The accumulation of fatigue deformation prior to the appearance of a fatigue crack is also detected, and in this regard the sensitivity of the gel electrode exceeds that of a scanning electron microscope. The distribution of fatigue deformation may be mapped as early as 1% of the fatigue life, and the charge flow to the regions of most severe damage increases systematically with fatigue cycling as the density of microcracks in the oxide increases. The simplicity of this electrochemical gel electrode method renders it directly applicable to field investigations, and provides a new tool for quantitatively assessing the distribution of fatigue damage

    Programmatic detection of spatial behaviour in an agent-based model

    The automated detection of aspects of spatial behaviourin an agent-based model is necessary for model testingand analysis. In this paper we compare four predictors of herdingbehaviour in a model of a grazing herbivore. We find that a) the mean number of neighbours adjustedto account for population variation and b) the mean Hammingdistance between rows of the two-dimensional environment can beused to detect herding. Visual inspection of the model behaviourrevealed that herding occurs when the herbivore mobility reachesa threshold level. Using this threshold we identify a limits forthese predictors to use in the program code. These results apply only to one set of parameters and environmentsize; future research will involve a wider parameterspace

    Migration of atmospheric convection coupled with ocean currents pushes El Nino to extremes

    The warm phase of El Nino-Southern Oscillation can grow much stronger than the cold phase, but the associated dynamics are not well understood. Here we show that the anomalous zonal advection of warm water is the major process that pushes El Nino to extremes and that this anomalous advection results from the coupling of oceanic currents with eastward migration of the atmospheric convection; a greater zonal advection is associated with a greater extent of the eastward migration. By contrast, there is a limited extent for westward migration during La Nina. Climate models that successfully simulate the amplitude asymmetry display a systematic linkage of a greater longitudinal movement of the convection center with a stronger zonal advection and greater El Nino amplitude. In a warming world, the longitudinal migration of convection response increases, as does the role of zonal advection, increasing the frequency of future extremes of El Nino.△1132Ysciescopu

    Investigation of phase separation within the generalized Lin-Taylor model for a binary liquid mixture of large hexagonal and small triangular particles

    The generalized Lin-Taylor model defined on the hexagonal lattice is used to investigate the phase separation in an asymmetric binary liquid mixture consisting of large A (hexagons) and small B (triangles) particles. By considering interaction energies between A-A and A-B pairs of particles that occupy nearest-neighbour cells of the hexagonal lattice, we have derived an exact solution for the considered model system having established a mapping correspondence with the two-dimensional Ising model on its dual triangular lattice.     Reliability of P mode event classification using contemporaneous BiSON and GOLF observations

    We carried out a comparison of the signals seen in contemporaneous BiSON and GOLF data sets. Both instruments perform Doppler shift velocity measurements in integrated sunlight, although BiSON perform measurements from the two wings of potassium absorption line and GOLF from one wing of the NaD1 line. Discrepancies between the two datasets have been observed. We show,in fact, that the relative power depends on the wing in which GOLF data observes.
