Field-sequential stereo television
System includes viewing devices that provide low interference to normal vision. It provides stereo display observable from broader area. Left and right video cameras are focused on object. Output signals from cameras are time provided by each camera. Multiplexed signal, fed to standard television monitor, displays left and right images of object
Optical conversion method
An optical pickup comprising an electrooptical device located between two crossed polarizing devices all positioned along a common optical axis is described for switching a TV system between a color mode and a black and white mode. Embodiments in which the electrooptical system is used as a neutral density filter, a selective color filter, or a light shutter as applied to a television camera are described. Where the optical system is used as a selective color filter to produce light beams of alternating color in a field sequential color television system, deactivation of the optical system renders the television a black and white system

All-optical photochromic spatial light modulators based on photoinduced electron transfer in rigid matrices
A single material (not a multi-element structure) spatial light modulator may be written to, as well as read out from, using light. The device has tailorable rise and hold times dependent on the composition and concentration of the molecular species used as the active components. The spatial resolution of this device is limited only by light diffraction as in volume holograms. The device may function as a two-dimensional mask (transmission or reflection) or as a three-dimensional volume holographic medium. This device, based on optically-induced electron transfer, is able to perform incoherent to coherent image conversion or wavelength conversion over a wide spectral range (ultraviolet, visible, or near-infrared regions)
The Physics of 2-d Stringy Spacetimes
We examine the two-dimensional spacetimes that emerge from string theory. We
find all the solutions with no tachyons, and show that the only non-trivial
solution is the black hole spacetime. We examine the role of duality in this
picture. We then explore the thermodynamics of these solutions which is
complicated by the fact that only in two spacetime dimensions is it impossible
to redefine the dilaton field in terms of a canonical scalar field. Finally, we
extend our analysis to the heterotic string, and briefly comment on exact, as
opposed to perturbative, solutions
Observation of high-energy vibrational overtones of molecules in solids: Local modes and intramolecular relaxations
In the last few years, the spectra of vibrational overtones (1) (at ~15-20,000 cm^-1) in large molecules have received considerable attention. The focus is on three problems dealing with the origin of relaxation at such high energies, the association of spectral band positions with the local modes (LM) in molecules, and the relevance of these spectra to possible selectivity in laser-induced chemistry
Operation of the HP2250 with the HP9000 series 200 using PASCAL 3.0
A computer program has been written to provide an interface between the HP Series 200 desktop computers, operating under HP Standard Pascal 3.0, and the HP2250 Data Acquisition and Control System. Pascal 3.0 for the HP9000 desktop computer gives a number of procedures for handling bus communication at various levels. It is necessary, however, to reach the lowest possible level in Pascal to handle the bus protocols required by the HP2250. This makes programming extremely complex since these protocols are not documented. The program described solves those problems and allows the user to immediately program, simply and efficiently, any measurement and control language (MCL/50) application with a few procedure calls. The complete set of procedures is available on a 5 1/4 inch diskette from Cosmic. Included in this group of procedures is an Exerciser which allows the user to exercise his HP2250 interactively. The exerciser operates in a fashion similar to the Series 200 operating system programs, but is adapted to the requirements of the HP2250. The programs on the diskette and the user's manual assume the user is acquainted with both the MCL/50 programming language and HP Standard Pascal 3.0 for the HP series 200 desktop computers
