Educação sob o Nacional-Socialismo. Ideologia, Programas e Prática

The article provides a condensed, introductory overview of National Socialist formation education in the Hitler Youth and school. It is based on the author’s own research and relevant presentations. Education under National Socialism was characterized by the interplay of a racist worldview and the regime’s totalitarian will to rule. For Nazi education, this meant that the political took precedence over all social issues, including all issues relevant from the perspective of educational theory. In our analysis, we distinguish between two levels: the level of standardization and the level of educational practices in the Hitler Youth and school. Particularly during World War II, political demands were increasingly rigidly enforced, and adolescents were increasingly instrumentalized for their purposes. The National Socialists’ aspirations for total control compared to the educational reality exhibited correspondences as well as discrepancies and contradictions. Against the background of traditional tasks of education, the verdict on Nazi education from a normative point of view is clearly negative. However, if one also looks at National Socialist educational practices, one notices numerous characteristic ambivalences – between the partly contradictory demands of the National Socialist regime, but also between its educational practices and its attempts at realization. AlN-based piezoelectric micropower generator for low ambient vibration energy harvesting

AbstractIn this paper a resonant micropower generator based on the transverse piezoelectric effect is presented. The generator consists of a large silicon mass attached to an polysilicon cantilever covered with an AlN thinfilm as piezoelectric material. To maximize the power density of the generator, a parametric study by means of analytical modeling and FEM simulation has been performed. Different optimized generators with resonance frequencies in the range from 100Hz up to 1kHz have been designed and fabricated, using dedicated MEMS technology processes. First unpackaged prototypes showed a quality factor of about 500 under atmospheric pressure and were able to generate an electrical output power of up to 1.9μW at an external acceleration of 1.6 m/s2

A European Turn in Early American History? A Discussion of Evan Haefeli's Accidental Pluralism: America and the Religious Politics of English Expansion, 1497-1662

From the nineteenth century onwards, Americans have naturalized their colonial origins into a consensual nationalist history, emphasizing America’s perceived role as a refuge for the persecuted, while smoothing out a myriad of complexities in the process. Evan Haefeli attempts to overturn the assumptions underpinning this narrative and is convinced that many important aspects of early America need to be understood within a broader European context. In Accidental Pluralism, he argues that the collapse of religious unity in England lies at the root of the emergence of pluralism in colonial America, in which he includes Canada and the Caribbean. Relationships among states, churches, and publics were contested from the earliest decades of colonization and created a pluralistic religious landscape that no one had anticipated. The four reviewers are fulsome in their praise, calling it an impressive, important, powerful, and sweeping book that few scholars could have written. The reviewers also raise questions, for instance by problematizing the incorporation of the colonial American dimension into early British history, criticizing the validity of the chosen end date, and questioning his definitions of diversity, pluralism, and religious toleration. In his response Evan Haefeli takes the opportunity to reflect on what drove him to write the book and to organize it in this way. He acknowledges that connecting early American history with its broader European context was more difficult than it should have been, as the dominant questions in the two historiographies are an ocean apart. While the argument of the book is aimed at early Americanists, Haefeli is grateful that the reviewers situate the story he tells within the broader early modern European history of toleration

Microlens array production in a microtechnological dry etch and reflow process for display applications

The fabrication of arrays consisting of densely ordered circular convex microlenses with diameters of 126 μm made of quartz glass in a photoresist reflow and dry etch structure transition process is demonstrated. The rectangular lens arrays with dimensions of 6 mm x 9 mm were designed for focussing collimated light on the pixel center regions of a translucent interference display, which also was produced in microtechnological process steps. The lenses focus light on pixel centers and thus serve for increasing display brightness and contrast since incoming collimated light is partially blocked by opaque metallic ring contacts at the display pixel edges. The focal lengths of the lenses lie between 0.46 mm and 2.53 mm and were adjusted by varying ratio of the selective dry etch rate of photoresist and quartz glass. Due to volume shrinking and edge line pinning of the photoresist structures the lenses curvatures emerge hyperbolic, leading to improved focussing performance

ASB2 is an Elongin BC-interacting protein that can assemble with Cullin 5 and Rbx1 to reconstitute an E3 ubiquitin ligase complex.

International audience; The ankyrin repeat-containing protein with a suppressor of cytokine signaling box-2 (ASB2) gene was identified as a retinoic acid-response gene and a target of the promyelocytic leukemia-retinoic acid receptor-alpha oncogenic protein characteristic of acute promyelocytic leukemia. Expression of ASB2 in myeloid leukemia cells inhibits growth and promotes commitment, recapitulating an early step known to be critical for differentiation. Here we show that ASB2, by interacting with the Elongin BC complex, can assemble with Cullin5.Rbx1 to form an E3 ubiquitin ligase complex that stimulates polyubiquitination by the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme Ubc5. This is a first indication that a member of the ASB protein family, ASB2, is a subunit of an ECS (Elongin C-Cullin-SOCS box)-type E3 ubiquitin ligase complex. Altogether, our results strongly suggest that ASB2 targets specific proteins to destruction by the proteasome in leukemia cells that have been induced to differentiate

Aggressive low grade middle ear adenocarcinoma with multiple recurrences: a case report

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Primary tumours of the middle ear are much less commonly encountered in clinical practice than non neoplastic lesions. Middle ear adenocarcinoma is a very rare, locally invasive neoplasm assumed to arise from the middle ear mucosa. Because the natural course and clinical behavior of this neoplasm are far from established, the sporadic reports of such cases continue to provide basis for better understanding.</p> <p>Case description</p> <p>A case of low grade adenocarcinoma of the middle ear is described in details with regard to its clinical presentation, radiological findings, histopathological, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural findings. The tumour recurred four times.</p
