Space flight research relevant to health, physical education, and recreation: With particular reference to Skylab's life science experiments

    Get PDF
Data collected in the Skylab program relating to physiological stresses is presented. Included are routine blood measures used in clinical medicine as research type endocrine analyses to investigate the metabolic/endocrine responses to weightlessness. The daily routine of physical exercise, coupled with appropriate dietary intake, sleep, work, and recreation periods were considered essential in maintaining the crew's health and well being

Characteristics and performance study of mass spectrometer residual gas analyzers

    Get PDF
Types of instruments studied were magnetic sector, omegatron, quadrupole, and monopole. Experimental results obtained included absolute sensitivity to argon, relative sensitivity to ten gases (hydrogen, helium, neon, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, krypton, and xenon), and cracking patterns for these gases

Inhibited solid propellant composition containing beryllium hydride

An object of this invention is to provide a composition of beryllium hydride and carboxy-terminated polybutadiene which is stable. Another object of this invention is to provide a method for inhibiting the reactivity of beryllium hydride toward carboxy-terminated polybutadiene. It was found that a small amount of lecithin inhibits the reaction of beryllium hydride with the acid groups in carboxy terminated polybutadiene

Further tests of a model-based scheme for predicting pilot opinion ratings for large commercial transports

A methodology was demonstrated for assessing longitudinal-axis handling qualities of transport aircraft on the basis of closed-loop criteria. Six longitudinal-axis approach configurations were studied covering a range of handling quality problems that included the presence of flexible aircraft modes. Using closed-loop performance requirements derived from task analyses and pilot interviews, predictions of performance/workload tradeoffs were obtained using an analytical pilot/vehicle model. A subsequent manned simulation study yielded objective performance measures and Cooper-Harper pilot ratings that were largely consistent with each other and with analytic predictions

Wiring harnesses documented by punched-card technique

    Get PDF
Cards representing a connector are punched, sorted, and then used to printout wiring documentation for that connector. When wiring changes are made, new cards are punched and the wiring documentation is reprinted to reflect the latest configuration
