Survey on Vietnamese teachers’ perspectives and perceived support during COVID-19

    Get PDF
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented damage to the educational system worldwide. Besides the measurable economic impacts in the short-term and long-term, there is intangible destruction within educational institutions. In particular, teachers – the most critical intellectual resources of any schools – have to face various types of financial, physical, and mental struggles due to COVID-19. To capture the current context of more than one million Vietnamese teachers during COVID-19, we distributed an e- survey to more than 2,500 randomly selected teachers from two major teacher communities on Facebook from 6th to 11th April 2020. From over 373 responses, we excluded the observations which violated our cross-check questions and retained 294 observations for further analysis. This dataset includes: (i) Demographics of participants; (ii) Teachers' perspectives regarding the operation of teaching activities during the pandemic; (iii) Teachers' received support from their schools, government bodies, other stakeholders such as teacher unions, and parents' associations; and (iv) teachers' evaluation of school readiness toward digital transformation. Further, the dataset was supplemented with an additional question on the teachers' primary source of professional development activities during the pandemic

Magnetic Vortex and Hyperthermia Suppression in Multigrain Iron Oxide Nanorings

Single-crystal iron oxide nanorings have been proposed as a promising candidate for magnetic hyperthermia application because of their unique shape-induced vortex-domain structure, which supports good colloidal stability and enhanced magnetic properties. However, the synthesis of single crystalline iron oxide has proven to be challenging. In this article, we showed that chemically synthesized multigrain magnetite nanorings disfavor a shape-induced magnetic vortex-domain structure. Our results indicate that the multigrain Fe3O4 nanorings with an average outer diameter of ~110 nm and an inner to outer diameter ratio of ~0.5 do not show a shape-induced vortex-domain structure, which was observed in the single-crystal Fe3O4 nanorings of similar dimensions. At 300 Ks, multigrain magnetite nanorings showed an effective anisotropy field of 440 Oe, which can be attributed to its high surface area and intraparticle interaction. Both calorimetric and AC loop measurements showed a moderate inductive heating efficiency of multigrain magnetite nanorings of ~300 W/g at 800 Oe. Our results shed light on the magnetic ground states of chemically synthesized multigrain Fe3O4 nanorings

EIT enhanced self-Kerr nonlinearity in the three-level lambda system under Doppler broadening

    Get PDF
Using density-matrix theory, an analytical expression of the self-Kerr nonlinear coefficient of a three-level lambda EIT medium for a weak probe light is derived. Influences of the coupling light and Doppler broadening on the self-Kerr coefficient are investigated and compared to experimental observation with a good agreement. The self-Kerr nonlinearity is basically modified and greatly enhanced in the spectral region corresponding to EIT transparent window. Furthermore, sign, slope, and magnitude of the self-Kerr coefficient can be controlled with frequency and intensity of the coupling light and temperature. Such controllable Kerr nonlinearity can find interesting applications in optoelectronic devices working with low-light intensity

Developing Criteria for Assessing The Stability of Water Supply Models in High Mountains and Water-Scare Areas

    No full text
The article presents the scientific basis for assessing the stability of water supply models and develops a suitable set of criteria to assess the stability of water supply works, which includes the water supply part for water supply works and systems (including headworks and water distribution systems) in high mountains and water-scarce areas in Vietnam. Research results indicate that in order to improve the stability and availability of water of the models that have been, are and will be built, it is necessary to have a common method of evaluating effectiveness for scientific models of domestic water supply. Accordingly, it is necessary to build obtain a suitable set of criteria to assess the stability of the water supply model (source + water supply works) in the high mountains, water-scarce areas in Vietnam

A Novel Magnetic Respiratory Sensor for Human Healthcare

    No full text
Breathing is vital to life. Therefore, the real-time monitoring of a patient′s breathing pattern is crucial to respiratory rehabilitation therapies, such as magnetic resonance exams for respiratory-triggered imaging, chronic pulmonary disease treatment, and synchronized functional electrical stimulation. While numerous respiratory devices have been developed, they are often in direct contact with a patient, which can yield limited data. In this study, we developed a novel, non-invasive, and contactless magnetic sensing platform that can precisely monitor a patient′s breathing, movement, or sleep patterns, thus providing efficient monitoring at a clinic or home. A magneto-LC resonance (MLCR) sensor converts the magnetic oscillations generated by a patient′s breathing into an impedance spectrum, which allows for a deep analysis of one′s breath variation to identify respiratory-related diseases like COVID-19. Owing to its ultrahigh sensitivity, the MLCR sensor yields a distinct breathing pattern for each patient tested. It also provides an accurate measure of the strength of a patient′s breath at multiple stages as well as anomalous variations in respiratory rate and amplitude. The sensor can thus be applied to detect symptoms of COVID-19 in a patient, due to shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, as well as track the disease′s progress in real time

Immobilized Platinum Hydride Species as Catalysts for Olefin Isomerizations and Enyne Cycloisomerizations

    No full text
Platinum hydride species catalyze a number of interesting organic reactions. However, their reactions typically involve the use of high loadings of noble metal and are difficult to recycle, making them somewhat unsustainable. We have synthesized surface-immobilized Pt–H species via oxidative addition of surface OH groups to Pt(Pt^tBu3_3)2_2 (1), a rarely used immobilization technique in surface organometallic chemistry. The hydride species thus made were characterized by infrared, magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance, and X-ray absorption spectroscopies and catalyzed both olefin isomerization and cycloisomerization of a 1,6 enyne (5) with a high selectivity and low Pt loading
