Improving B1 homogeneity in abdominal imaging at 3 T with light and compact metasurface

Radiofrequency field inhomogeneity is a significant issue in imaging large fields of view in high- and ultrahigh-field MRI. Passive shimming with coupled coils or dielectric pads is the most common approach at 3 T. We introduce and test light and compact metasurface, providing the same homogeneity improvement in clinical abdominal imaging at 3 T as a conventional dielectric pad. The metasurface comprising a periodic structure of copper strips and parallel-plate capacitive elements printed on a flexible polyimide substrate supports propagation of slow electromagnetic waves similar to a high-permittivity slab. We compare the metasurface operating inside a transmit body birdcage coil to the state-of-the-art pad by numerical simulations and in vivo study on healthy volunteers. Numerical simulations with different body models show that the local minimum of B1+ causing a dark void in the abdominal domain is removed by the metasurface with comparable resulting homogeneity as for the pad without noticeable SAR change. In vivo results confirm similar homogeneity improvement and demonstrate the stability to body mass index. The light, flexible, and cheap metasurface can replace a relatively heavy and expensive pad based on the aqueous suspension of barium titanate in abdominal imaging at 3 T.Comment: 18 pages, 6 figures, 4 supplementary figure

    Study of the B−→Λc+Λˉc−K−B^{-} \to \Lambda_{c}^{+} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} K^{-} decay

The decay B−→Λc+Λˉc−K−B^{-} \to \Lambda_{c}^{+} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} K^{-} is studied in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=13\sqrt{s}=13 TeV using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb−1\mathrm{fb}^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment. In the Λc+K−\Lambda_{c}^+ K^{-} system, the Ξc(2930)0\Xi_{c}(2930)^{0} state observed at the BaBar and Belle experiments is resolved into two narrower states, Ξc(2923)0\Xi_{c}(2923)^{0} and Ξc(2939)0\Xi_{c}(2939)^{0}, whose masses and widths are measured to be m(Ξc(2923)0)=2924.5±0.4±1.1 MeV,m(Ξc(2939)0)=2938.5±0.9±2.3 MeV,Γ(Ξc(2923)0)=0004.8±0.9±1.5 MeV,Γ(Ξc(2939)0)=0011.0±1.9±7.5 MeV, m(\Xi_{c}(2923)^{0}) = 2924.5 \pm 0.4 \pm 1.1 \,\mathrm{MeV}, \\ m(\Xi_{c}(2939)^{0}) = 2938.5 \pm 0.9 \pm 2.3 \,\mathrm{MeV}, \\ \Gamma(\Xi_{c}(2923)^{0}) = \phantom{000}4.8 \pm 0.9 \pm 1.5 \,\mathrm{MeV},\\ \Gamma(\Xi_{c}(2939)^{0}) = \phantom{00}11.0 \pm 1.9 \pm 7.5 \,\mathrm{MeV}, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The results are consistent with a previous LHCb measurement using a prompt Λc+K−\Lambda_{c}^{+} K^{-} sample. Evidence of a new Ξc(2880)0\Xi_{c}(2880)^{0} state is found with a local significance of 3.8 σ3.8\,\sigma, whose mass and width are measured to be 2881.8±3.1±8.5 MeV2881.8 \pm 3.1 \pm 8.5\,\mathrm{MeV} and 12.4±5.3±5.8 MeV12.4 \pm 5.3 \pm 5.8 \,\mathrm{MeV}, respectively. In addition, evidence of a new decay mode Ξc(2790)0→Λc+K−\Xi_{c}(2790)^{0} \to \Lambda_{c}^{+} K^{-} is found with a significance of 3.7 σ3.7\,\sigma. The relative branching fraction of B−→Λc+Λˉc−K−B^{-} \to \Lambda_{c}^{+} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} K^{-} with respect to the B−→D+D−K−B^{-} \to D^{+} D^{-} K^{-} decay is measured to be 2.36±0.11±0.22±0.252.36 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.22 \pm 0.25, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third originates from the branching fractions of charm hadron decays.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2022-028.html (LHCb public pages

The ratios of branching fractions R(D∗)≡B(Bˉ→D∗τ−Μˉτ)/B(Bˉ→D∗Ό−ΜˉΌ)\mathcal{R}(D^{*})\equiv\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}\to D^{*}\tau^{-}\bar{\nu}_{\tau})/\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}\to D^{*}\mu^{-}\bar{\nu}_{\mu}) and R(D0)≡B(B−→D0τ−Μˉτ)/B(B−→D0Ό−ΜˉΌ)\mathcal{R}(D^{0})\equiv\mathcal{B}(B^{-}\to D^{0}\tau^{-}\bar{\nu}_{\tau})/\mathcal{B}(B^{-}\to D^{0}\mu^{-}\bar{\nu}_{\mu}) are measured, assuming isospin symmetry, using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to 3.0 fb−1{ }^{-1} of integrated luminosity recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. The tau lepton is identified in the decay mode τ−→Ό−ΜτΜˉΌ\tau^{-}\to\mu^{-}\nu_{\tau}\bar{\nu}_{\mu}. The measured values are R(D∗)=0.281±0.018±0.024\mathcal{R}(D^{*})=0.281\pm0.018\pm0.024 and R(D0)=0.441±0.060±0.066\mathcal{R}(D^{0})=0.441\pm0.060\pm0.066, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The correlation between these measurements is ρ=−0.43\rho=-0.43. Results are consistent with the current average of these quantities and are at a combined 1.9 standard deviations from the predictions based on lepton flavor universality in the Standard Model.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2022-039.html (LHCb public pages

International audienceThe associated production of prompt J/ψJ/\psi and ΄\mathit{\mathit{\Upsilon}} mesons in pppp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV\sqrt{s}=13\,\mathrm{TeV} is studied using LHCb data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4 fb−14\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}. The measurement is performed for J/ψJ/\psi (΄\mathit{\Upsilon}) mesons with a transverse momentum pT<10 (30) GeV/cp_{\mathrm{T}}<10\,(30)\,\mathrm{GeV}/c in the rapidity range 2.0<y<4.52.0<y<4.5. In this kinematic range, the cross-section of the associated production of prompt J/ψJ/\psi and ΄(1S)\mathit{\Upsilon}(1S) mesons is measured to be 133±22±7±3 pb133 \pm 22 \pm 7 \pm 3 \, \mathrm{pb}, with a significance of 7.9 σ7.9\,\sigma, and that of prompt J/ψJ/\psi and ΄(2S)\mathit{\Upsilon}(2S) mesons to be 76±21±4±7 pb76\pm 21 \pm 4 \pm 7 \, \mathrm{pb}, with a significance of 4.9 σ4.9\,\sigma. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to uncertainties on the used branching fractions. This is the first observation of the associated production of J/ψJ/\psi and ΄(1S)\mathit{\Upsilon}(1S) in proton-proton collisions. Differential cross-sections are measured as function of variables that are sensitive to kinematic correlations between the J/ψJ/\psi and ΄(1S)\mathit{\Upsilon}(1S) mesons. The effective cross-sections of the associated production of prompt J/ψJ/\psi and ΄\mathit{\Upsilon} mesons are obtained and found to be compatible with measurements using other particle productions

International audienceA study of prompt Ξc+\Xi_{c}^{+} production in proton-lead collisions is performed with the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 8.16 TeV in 2016 in ppPb and Pbpp collisions with an estimated integrated luminosity of approximately 12.5 and 17.4 nb−1^{-1}, respectively. The Ξc+\Xi_{c}^{+} production cross-section, as well as the Ξc+\Xi_{c}^{+} to Λc+\Lambda_{c}^{+} production cross-section ratio, are measured as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity and compared to latest theory predictions. The forward-backward asymmetry is also measured as a function of the Ξc+\Xi_{c}^{+} transverse momentum

The first study of C ⁣PC\!P violation in the decay mode B±→[K+K−π+π−]Dh±B^\pm\to[K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^-]_D h^{\pm}, with h=K,πh=K,\pi, is presented, exploiting a data sample of proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 99 fb−1^{-1}. The analysis is performed in bins of phase space, which are optimised for sensitivity to local C ⁣PC\!P asymmetries. C ⁣PC\!P-violating observables that are sensitive to the angle Îł\gamma of the Unitarity Triangle are determined.
