ELECTROOPTICS OF ORIENTED LAYERS IN FERROELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTALS

    No full text
The work covers the oriented samples of the ferroelectric smectic C liquid crystals (CLC). The CLC materials and composites for their orientation have been developed. The basic parameters of interacting CLC with surface have been determined theoretically and investigated experimentally. The use of the linear electrooptic effect in the new geometry has been proposed. The obtained results were applied for manufacture of the matrix CLC screens with passive addressing in the conditions of the technology used for mounting of the non-matic twist and supertwist screensAvailable from VNTIC / VNTIC - Scientific & Technical Information Centre of RussiaSIGLERURussian Federatio

Multistable Antiferroelectric Liquid Crystal Optical Modulator

    No full text
An electro-optical element based on antiferroelectricliquid crystal (AFLC) has been prepared by photopolymerization-induced anisotropic phase separation of a solution of an AFLC and a prepolymer. It consists of two adjacent layers, one comprised of the isotropic polymer and the other of the AFLC aligned by surface treatment of the adjacent substrate. The electro-optical properties show that these devices are either optically monostable or multistable (at zero field) with maximum memory angle of ∼15°. A qualitative model to describe the origin of memory in these AFLC/polymer composites is discussed.</p

Berreman-like term of FLC anchoring energy: Measurement methods and effect on bistability

The influence of azimuthal surface anchoring in FLC anchoring energy is discussed. Two methods of measuring the azimuthal anchoring are proposed. The influence of the orientation energy on bistability properties is shown
