    Get PDF
The shift of the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) to the\ud Information Technology, its use and implementation enables the feature of having more robust system offered to the Service Industry. This paper will present enhancement efforts to software platform solution with including quality\ud attributes and will describe the design of the Quality Service-Oriented Architecture. A well known branch of the service industry market in the US is the Pest Control Services which should be part of every single physical object in the USA. There are many Service-Oriented Platforms that handle the Pest Control Industry and our target in this article will be to describe a Quality Oriented and Service-Oriented Design for the Pest Control Industry, which will meet the criteria and the needs of the industry as well to meet all laws requirements to each\ud US state related to the pest control policies and rules. Most important is that the presented software platform provides competitive edge

Designing Multi-Agent System Model for University Teaching Activities by Using UML

    Get PDF
The area which covers the meaning of intelligent agents and their contribution is a subject of constant changes. Researchers are in a constant race to create intelligent agents that will contribute the most benefits in their life and will represent an extenuating circumstance regarding different complexity level problems, aiming to satisfy people’s needs. Some of them show agent models that\ud are going to be the starting point of future projects, and some give the whole picture of fully functioning agents. This paper gives a review of a systematic approach for\ud designing multi agent system model for university teaching activities using UML approach

Generating Public Trust through Digital Government Transformation

    Get PDF
Public trust has been acknowledged widely as an essential element in the success of public policy implementation. However, studies showed that it has declined over the years. To overcome this, the government could improve the public trust by leveraging the transparency through the use of digital technology. On the other hand, while research interest on digital transformation in government sector has been growing, studies related with public trust are scarce. Accordingly, this research-in-progress aims to investigate on how the public trust can be generated through digital government transformation (DGT). The proposed model have been drawn from IT business value model (Melville et al. 2004) and digital capability pillars (Peppard 2018) complemented with the cognitive theory of trust (Hill and O\u27Hara 2006). The research will contribute to the knowledge in the field of DGT related with public trust and as an input for government in generating public trust through DGT

Persuasive Social Support Features in Diabetes Self-Management mHealth Applications

    Get PDF
Diabetes self-management is a challenging task and mobile health (mHealth) applications are one of the options that can assist and support the users in that process. The aim of this paper is to identify the social support features presented in these mHealth applications. Ten applications were selected and analysed based on the literature review and search of the phrase ‘The Best Diabetes Apps of 2018’ with the Google search engine. The results indicated that some social support features have been implemented in these applications however, its presence is sporadical. There is a need for further development of these apps, introducing and utilising features for social support such as social facilitation, cooperation, competition and recognition

Using ZigBee low-power wireless standard for monitoring patients’ signs

    Get PDF
This paper presents Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN)strengths and gives an understanding of what possibilities they have when using short range wireless communications protocols to facilitate versatility in the movements of health care patients. The comparison made between the wireless standards and technologies used in such systems using qualitative measures gives insight into potential opportunities for their usage. The paper investigates the feasibility of using the ZigBee protocol and findings are implemented on presented COHESY system model for continuous real time remote patients monitoring conditions

Asthma management application for consumers: Nudging as a feature

    Get PDF
Asthma is a serious global health problem and can be seen in all age groups and a number of asthma management applications have been created aiming to increase self-management. The aim of this paper is to identify nudging strategy for the asthma management application based on the context awareness. Nudging feature is proposed to increase the self-management, patient engagement, and symptoms control. The final proposed application was implemented from a theoretical perspective

Towards collaborative health care system model - COHESY

The recent trend in healthcare support systems is the development of patient-centric pervasive environments and adoption of mobile devices and technology in the field of medical monitoring and personal health care systems in general. This is especially a case with certain categories of people with chronicle diseases who need 24 hour access to medical care. The model of the collaborative health care system presented in this paper offers 24 hour monitoring of the condition of patients and the possibility of sending an emergency call for sudden deterioration of his medical condition. In addition, the system enables the patient (system user) to contact other people with similar condition and exchange their experience. This system improves the terms of home care treatment of the patient and also increases the medical capacity of the appropriate institutions. The result is significant reduction of the overall costs for patients and hospitals. 2011 IEEE

Tele-monitoring Technology as a Tool for Monitoring and Management of Patients with Congestive Heart Failure

    Get PDF
Telehealth interventions are designed to facilitate the remote exchange of information and data between patients and health care providers, improving the quality and safety of the patients and increasing efficiency and cost-effectiveness of health care providers. The development of telecommunications and virtual technology allowed a number of telehealth systems to be applied in different health care areas. These technologies can provide an alternative monitoring and solutions for decreasing the hospital readmission rates for patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). In this paper, a systematic literature review regarding telemonitoring and its use in the management of patients with CHF is conducted. The result indicated a that standardized tele-monitoring design would reduce a length of hospitalization and re-hospitalization rate. The other factors that moderate the effectiveness of the telemonitoring intervention include quality of life, mortality rate, and disease-specific knowledge (health literacy). All these factors align with the consumer-centred principle of The Australian Safety and Quality Framework for Health Care

Computational Thinking and Coding Subject in Primary Schools: Methodological Approach Based on Alternative Cooperative and Individual Learning Cycles

    Get PDF
Many countries have included or consider to include computational thinking in their educational curricula. This creates the need for a carefully planned educational approach involving different stakeholders as policymakers, educators and students. These stakeholders are the main carriers of the educational reforms thus their perspectives create various challenges and risks. In this paper, we propose a pedagogical approach of teaching coding through games and gamification of the learning process. The flipped classroom is used in order to address the shortcomings in teacher training and deliver learning outcomes in student-centred, fun and engaging way. Proposed solution includes a spiral curriculum implemented in 4 cycles that alternate cooperative and individual learning approach. The approach was evaluated with more than 199 students from 6 different schools. Evaluation analyses were focused on the achieved learning experience identifying differences between male and female students, as well as students with different level of access to ICT resources. The results confirm the benefits of the proposed solution

Analysis of the recommendation algorithm in Cohesy

Pervasive health care takes steps to design, develop, and evaluate computer technologies that help citizens participate more closely in their own healthcare, on one hand, and on the other to provide flexibility in the life of patient who lead an active everyday life with work, family and friends. This paper presents a novel collaborative algorithm that generates recommendations and suggestions for preventive intervention. The main purpose of this algorithm is to find the dependency of the users’ health condition and physical activities he/she performs. The recommendation algorithm, presented in this paper, is part of the Collaborative health care system model called COHESY. COHESY improves quality of care and life to its users, by offering freedom to enjoy life with the confidence that a medical professional is monitoring theirs health condition
