Atomic Force Microscopy of Structural-Mechanical Properties of Polyethylene Reinforced by Silicate Needle-Shaped Filler

    Get PDF
The paper presents the results of experimental studies of polyethylene-based composites reinforced with silicate needle-shaped filler (palygorskite) of different mass fraction (0, 5, 10, and 15%). These composites are less flammable and fire toxic than unfilled polyethylene. The structure (size, shape, and agglomeration of filler) and local mechanical properties of composites in nonstretched and elongated states were investigated by AFM. In stretched samples palygorskite takes a wavy shape, and at extremely high elongation the filler is orthogonal to the axis of tension. The smooth surfaces of the samples, required for AFM, were prepared using the heating/cooling procedure

The subject of the research is the quality of life of the small-numbered indigenous peoples of the Siberian North, the Nganasan and the Dolgans, locally resident in the territory of the rural settlement cluster in Khatanga District of the Taymyr (Dolgano-Nenets) Municipal District of the Krasnoyarsk Territory (Krai). The objective of the present research is to analyse the differentiation of quality of life perception by various strata of population living in the remote areas of the Northern Arctic zone of the Krasnoyarsk Territory (Krai). The purpose is to apply the comparative analysis method developed for the research of the quality of life of people living in the remote rural districts of the northern and Central taiga zones of Siberia. The main methodological base for the research is a group of theoretical scientific methods related to the analysis of empirical data obtained through questionnaires, surveys, observation and interview of small-numbered indigenous peoples in the places of their residence. The academic novelty of the research is the application of an efficient comprehension and evaluation method to the quality of life of the people compactly resident in severe northern climate, classified as smallnumbered indigenous peoples of the North. For differentiation of the population strata by the objective and subjective evaluation of their quality of life, statistic data were used; as a result, the degree of their satisfaction with the quality of education, security, local authorities, material welfare, cultural services, environmental situation and medical services was assessed

Evaluating characteristics of turbulent flames by using IR thermography and PIV

The paper describes experimental results of determining scales of turbulent eddies in diffusion flames. The results are obtained by analyzing a set of 2D cross-sections cut from 3D semi-transparent flames. The comparison of data obtained by using the particle image velocimetry (PIV) method and infrared (IR) thermography is presented to demonstrate similarity between hydro- and thermodynamic parameters

CISA: Context Substitution for Image Semantics Augmentation

Large datasets catalyze the rapid expansion of deep learning and computer vision. At the same time, in many domains, there is a lack of training data, which may become an obstacle for the practical application of deep computer vision models. To overcome this problem, it is popular to apply image augmentation. When a dataset contains instance segmentation masks, it is possible to apply instance-level augmentation. It operates by cutting an instance from the original image and pasting to new backgrounds. This article challenges a dataset with the same objects present in various domains. We introduce the Context Substitution for Image Semantics Augmentation framework (CISA), which is focused on choosing good background images. We compare several ways to find backgrounds that match the context of the test set, including Contrastive Language–Image Pre-Training (CLIP) image retrieval and diffusion image generation. We prove that our augmentation method is effective for classification, segmentation, and object detection with different dataset complexity and different model types. The average percentage increase in accuracy across all the tasks on a fruits and vegetables recognition dataset is 4.95%. Moreover, we show that the Fréchet Inception Distance (FID) metrics has a strong correlation with model accuracy, and it can help to choose better backgrounds without model training. The average negative correlation between model accuracy and the FID between the augmented and test datasets is 0.55 in our experiments

Species composition and abundance of zooplankton and zoobenthos of large Norilsk Lakes (Lama, Sobach’e) and Kutaramakan Lake in the western part of the Putorana plateau were studied in August-September of 2013–2014 after a long gap. Senecella calanoides Juday (Copepoda: Calanoida) in zooplankton and 5 species of water mites (Acalyptonotus violaceus Walter, Hygrobates (Hygrobates) foreli (Lebert), Lebertia (Mixolebertia) densa Koenike, Lebertia (Pilolebertia) porosa Thor, Oxus (Gnaphiscus) setosus (Koenike) (Hydrachnidia)) in zoobenthos were recorded for the first time in the investigated lakes. A total of 64 taxa of benthic invertebrates were found, of which 42 taxa were Chironomidae. Zooplankton species composition of Lama and Cobach’e lakes was similar and differed from that of Kutaramakan lake by presence of Senecella calanoides and Limnocalanus macrurus Sars (Copepoda: Calanoida). In zoobenthos of Kutaramakan lake amphipods were not found. Lama and Kutaramakan lakes can be classified as ultraoligotrophic water bodies based on biomass of zooplankton and zoobenthos. Among the studied lakes, Cobach’e lake has the greatest biomass, and based on the biomass of zooplankton in some zones of > 0.5 g/m3, it is an oligotrophic water body, and based on an average biomass of zoobenthos 3.85 g/m2 an α-mesotrophic on
