    VLSI Implementation of Barrel Distortion Correction in Endoscopic Images based on Least Squares Estimation

    An efficient VLSI Implementation of Barrel Distortion Correction (BDC) in Endoscopic Images based on Least Squares Estimation is presented in this paper. Computational complexity is reduced by employing Odd order polynomial, as an approximation to Back-mapping expansion polynomial. This polynomial can be solved in monomial form, by Estrin\u27s algorithm. In Estrin’s algorithm, a high order expression can be factorized in to sub-expression, which can be evaluated in parallel. In our simulation, on comparison with some existing distortion correction techniques, 75% of hardware cost and 70% of memory requirement is reduced by using TSMC 0.18μm technology

    A Method for Obtaining Electronic Voting Systems based Voter Confidentiality and Voting Accuracy

    A Voting is common in our daily life, from electing president to electing committee. A complete electronic voting scheme suitable for all kinds of voting with safe guaranty where the voter?s privacy can be protected. Fingerprint system security have been investigated, including the use of fake fingerprints for masquerading identity, the problem of fingerprint alteration or obfuscation has received very little attention. Fingerprint image quality assessment software (e.g., NFIQ) cannot always detect altered fingerprints since the implicit image quality due to alteration may not change significantly. The main contributions of this Research are-1.Compiling case studies of incidents where individuals were found to have altered their fingerprints for circumventing AFIS.2.Identifying the damages of fingerprint alteration on the accuracy of a commercial fingerprint matcher.3.Classifying the alterations into three major categories and suggesting possible countermeasures.4.Developing a technique to automatically detect altered fingerprints based on analyzing orientation field and minutiae distribution.5.Evaluating the proposed technique and the NFIQ algorithm on a big database of altered fingerprints provided by a law enforcement agency. Experimental results show the feasibility of the proposed approach in detecting altered fingerprints and highlight the need to further pursue this problem

    ENHANCED CONTROL STRATEGY FOR HIGH SPEED WIRELESS NETWORKS

    In 4G cellular networks, call admission control (CAC) has a direct impact on quality of service (QoS) for individual connections and overall system efficiency. Reservation-based CAC schemes have been previously proposed for cellular networks where a certain amount of system bandwidth is reserved for high-priority calls, e.g., hand-off calls and real-time new calls. Traditional reservation-based schemes are not efficient for 4G vehicular networks, as the reserved bandwidth may not be utilized effectively in low hand-off rates. We propose a channel borrowing approach in which new best effort (BE) calls can borrow the reserved bandwidth for high-priority calls. Later, if a hand-off call arrives and all the channels are busy, it will pre-empt the service of a borrower BE call if there exists any. Our focus in this paper is on the system modeling and performance evaluation of the proposed scheme. We present two system models that approximate the operation of the proposed scheme. For these models, we derive the CBP and CDP analytically. It is shown that our analytical results are very close to the ones obtained from simulations

    Frequency of polymorphic variants in corticotropin releasing hormone receptor 1, glucocorticoid induced 1 and Fc fragment of IgE receptor II genes in healthy and asthmatic Tamilian population

    Background: Asthma is a chronic airway inflammatory disease characterized by increased hyper-responsiveness and recurrent episodes of reversible obstructions. Asthma pharmacogenomic studies report significant association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes corticotropin releasing hormone receptor 1 (CRHR1), Fc fragment of IgE receptor II (FCER2) and glucocorticoid induced 1 (GLCCI1) with inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) response. The present study was aimed to establish the allelic and genotypic frequencies of polymorphisms rs242941, rs28364072 & rs37972 in CRHR1, FCER2 and GLCCI1 genes, respectively in Tamilian healthy population and asthma patients and to compare with established frequencies of global populations.Methods: The study groups consisted of healthy volunteers and persistent asthma patients who were drug naïve or without ICS treatment in the last ≥2 months, attending JIPMER hospital (n=111 and 78, respectively). SNP genotyping was done using PCR-RFLP (polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism) and real time-PCR methods.Results: Allelic and genotypic frequencies for all the studied variants found to be in hardy-weinberg equilibrium with minor allele frequencies (MAF) of rs 242941, rs 28364072 and rs 37972 at 0.51, 0.33 and 0.38, respectively, in healthy population. No significant difference in gene frequencies was obtained between healthy control and asthma patient groups. Significant difference in allele frequencies was observed between Tamilian healthy and specific global populations. West African frequency was found to be significantly different for all 3 SNPs (p<0.0001).Conclusions: MAF of rs 242941, rs 28364072 and rs 37972 were 0.51, 0.33 and 0.38, respectively in Tamilian population which were significantly different from various global populations. The frequency distribution found helps to further with ICS response association studies in larger cohorts of asthma patients

    Estimation of morphological and molecular genetic diversity in blackgram [Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper] under YMV hotspot regime

    A phenotypic and molecular diversity study was conducted using seven traits and 19 SSR markers in a collection of 26 black gram genotypes. Phenotypic characterization was based on seven yield and yield related variable. The &nbsp;field experiment &nbsp;was &nbsp;laid &nbsp;out &nbsp;at &nbsp;Panboli village (YMV hotspot) &nbsp;of Tirunelveli District in Tamilnadu during summer 2017. Genetic divergence was estimated on the basis of D2 values and 26 genotypes under study were grouped into six clusters by Tocher’s method. Seed yield per plant followed by Plant height and number of pods per plant contributed to the genetic divergence. The genetic distance announced using DICE dissimilarity co-efficient indicated highest divergence of 1.0 between VBN 8 and AUBG 17 and between VBN 8 and AUBG 19. The dendogram constructed using the DICE dissimilarity co-efficient between genotypes showed four apparent clusters based on marker allele distribution. Divergence was noted between the dissimilarity matrices based on the molecular and phenotypic diversity based on agronomic data.&nbsp

    Remote Monitoring of the Heart Condition of Athletes by Measuring the Cardiac Action Potential Propagation Time Using a Wireless Sensor Network

    Highly performing athletes are susceptible to cardiac damage of several kinds which may be irreversible. The monitoring of heart rate and ECG waveforms from such subjects by wireless sensor networks has been reported in health and sports care documents. However, a more decisive parameter for instant to instant changes would be the time of Cardiac Action Potential Propagation. This time, which can be between 15-20 ms would shoot suddenly in acute stress in highly performing athletes for short durations. Repeated incidents of such rising values will tend to cause irreversible damage to the heart. We developed the technique of measuring this time and reporting it through a wireless sensor network to monitoring station

    Efficient in vitro organogenesis and plantlets regeneration in sesame (Sesamum indicum L.)-an important oilseed crop

    The regeneration methods in Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) already developed were genotype dependent and were unsuccessful for Indian cultivars. Hence, an efficient protocol for in vitro organogenesis and plant regeneration in sesame was attempted with TMV 3 cultivar. Immature cotyledons derived from 1-week old seedlings were cultured on MS (Murashige and Shoog) medium fortified with different concentrations of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), thidiazuran (TDZ) and kinetin for adventitious shoot induction. It was found that optimal medium for direct shoot formation was MS with BAP (2.0 mg/l) at a frequency of 74% with an average of 4.5 shoots per expalnt. The shoot regeneration frequency was significantly reduced with either TDZ or kinetin when compared with BAP alone. Elongated individual shoots were transferred on MS media supplemented with Indole Butyric Acid (IBA; 0.5 mg/l) showed rooting frequency of 70%. The rooted plantlets were acclimatized to potting mixture containing sand, soil and clay mixture and grown to maturity with survival rate of 65 %. No phenotypic aberrations were observed among the ex vitro transferred plantlets. The protocol described here assures a high frequency of shoot regeneration, root induction and also plant survival rate
