ORIENTAÇÃO PROFISSIONAL: RELATO DE EXPERIÊNCIA EM UMA CLINICA ESCOLA

    Get PDF

Potential application for antimicrobial and antileukemic therapy of a flavonoid-rich fraction of Camellia sinensis

The antimicrobial and antileukemic effect of a purified fraction of flavonoids from the leaves of Camellia sinensis was evaluated. An extraction yield of 9.77 mg.g-1 total flavonoids was recovered through a pressurized liquid extraction associated with solid-phase extraction. This fraction was tested against pathogenic microorganisms (Staphylococcus, Salmonella, and Enterococcus), considering the minimum inhibitory concentration. In addition, the human monocyte cell line THP-1, derived from a patient with acute monocytic leukemia, was used for the antitumor assay. The results show that the flavonoid-rich fraction obtained by coupling a Pressurized Liquids Extraction in-line with a Solid Phase Extraction (PLE-SPE) has a high antimicrobial effect and resulted in cell cycle blockage G0 / G1, increased DNA fragmentation, and altered leukemic cell morphology. These results suggest that a flavonoid-rich fraction obtained from Camellia sinensis can be applied as potential adjuvants in chemotherapy treatment to mitigate the side effects caused by chemotherapy or even as a supplement to cancer therapy9 página

Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy (4th edition)1.

In 2008, we published the first set of guidelines for standardizing research in autophagy. Since then, this topic has received increasing attention, and many scientists have entered the field. Our knowledge base and relevant new technologies have also been expanding. Thus, it is important to formulate on a regular basis updated guidelines for monitoring autophagy in different organisms. Despite numerous reviews, there continues to be confusion regarding acceptable methods to evaluate autophagy, especially in multicellular eukaryotes. Here, we present a set of guidelines for investigators to select and interpret methods to examine autophagy and related processes, and for reviewers to provide realistic and reasonable critiques of reports that are focused on these processes. These guidelines are not meant to be a dogmatic set of rules, because the appropriateness of any assay largely depends on the question being asked and the system being used. Moreover, no individual assay is perfect for every situation, calling for the use of multiple techniques to properly monitor autophagy in each experimental setting. Finally, several core components of the autophagy machinery have been implicated in distinct autophagic processes (canonical and noncanonical autophagy), implying that genetic approaches to block autophagy should rely on targeting two or more autophagy-related genes that ideally participate in distinct steps of the pathway. Along similar lines, because multiple proteins involved in autophagy also regulate other cellular pathways including apoptosis, not all of them can be used as a specific marker for bona fide autophagic responses. Here, we critically discuss current methods of assessing autophagy and the information they can, or cannot, provide. Our ultimate goal is to encourage intellectual and technical innovation in the field

Analytical synthesis technique for linear uniform?amplitude sparse arrays

    No full text
A novel analytical approach to the synthesis of linear sparse arrays with uniform?amplitude excitation is presented and thoroughly discussed in this paper. The proposed technique, based on the auxiliary array factor concept, is aimed at the deterministic determination of the optimal array element density and excitation phase tapering distributions useful to mimic a desired radiation pattern. In particular, the developed antenna placement method does not require any iterative or stochastic optimization procedure, resulting in a dramatic reduction of the antenna design times (typically on the order of a few seconds). Antenna mutual coupling is not taken into account within the developed methodology; hence, to assess the sensitivity of the design procedure to such nonideality, a dedicated numerical investigation has been carried out by using a rigorous full?wave electromagnetic field prediction technique. The obtained results prove the effectiveness and the versatility of the proposed array synthesis approach even in operative scenarios where a significant deviation from desired antenna operation is observed.TelecommunicationsElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc

Proof planning for feature interactions: a preliminary report

Abstract. We report on an initial success obtained in investigating the Feature Interaction problem (FI) via proof planning. FIs arise as an unwanted/unexpected behaviour in large telephone networks and have recently attracted interest not only from the Computer Science community but also from the industrial world. So far, FIs have been solved mainly via approximation plus finite-state methods (model checking being the most popular); in our work we attack the problem via proof planning in First-Order Linear Temporal Logic (FOLTL), therefore making use of no finite-state approximation or restricting assumption about quantification. We have integrated the proof planner λCLAM with an object-level FOLTL theorem prover called FTL, and have so far re-discovered a feature interaction in a basic (but far from trivial) example.
