Application of Hybrid Process of Coagulation/Flocculation and Membrane Filtration to Water Treatment
EMPREGO DAS SEMENTES DE MORINGA OLEIFERA LAM, COMO COAGULANTE ALTERNATIVO AO POLICLORETO DE ALUMÍNIO (PAC), NO TRATAMENTO DE ÁGUA PARA FINS POTÁVEIS
Este trabalho avaliou a eficiência das sementes de Moringa oleifera Lam como coagulante natural no processo de coagulação/floculação/sedimentação (C/F/S), seguido de ultrafiltração (UF), para a obtenção da remoção de cor, turbidez, coliformes totais, Escherichia coli e pH da água tratada. Para os ensaios, foi utilizada água bruta com turbidez na faixa de 150 à 550 uT proveniente do Rio Pirapó. O processo C/F/S foi realizado com o coagulante natural Moringa oleifera (MO) extraído em solução salina de KCl e NaCl (1M) e com o coagulante químico Policloreto de Alumínio (PAC), nas dosagens de 25 à 300 mg.L-1. Para os ensaios de UF foi utilizada uma membrana de poli (éter sulfona) à pressão de 3 bar. Pode-se observar que a Moringa não influencia o pH do meio, o qual manteve-se estável em todas as dosagens. O processo combinado C/F/S+UF se apresentou eficiente, pois os parâmetros analisados atingiram os valores estabelecidos pela Portaria nº 2914 do Ministério da Saúde. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Coagulação/floculação/sedimentação, ultrafiltração, Moringa oleífera.AbstractThis study investigated the efficiency of Moringa oleifera seeds as natural coagulant in coagulation/flocculation/sedimentation (C/F/S) process, followed by ultrafiltration (UF) for color, turbidity, total coliforms and Escherichia coli removal and pH of the treated water. For the tests a raw water with turbidity 150-550 uT, from the River basin Pirapó was used. The C/F/S process was performed using the Moringa oleifera extracted in saline solution of KCl and NaCl (1M), and Poly Aluminum Chloride (PAC) as chemical coagulant, in dosage from 25 to 300 mg.L-1 . In UF process, it was used a membrane of poly (eter sulfone) in a working pressure of 3 bar. In the results, one can observe that the Moringa does not influence the pH of the medium, which remained stable at all dosages. The combined process C/F/S+UF showed efficient, because the analyzed parameters reach the values established by Regulation nº 2914 of the Ministry of Health
<b>Development and the physical, chemical, microbiological and sensory analyses of red pepper seasoned with parmesan cheese</b> - doi: 10.4025/actascitechnol.v35i3.12794
<p class="aresumo">Pickles comprising red pepper seasoned with Parmesan cheese has been developed as a new type of product developed by family cottage industries. Two formulations were prepared, or rather, with and without the preservative potassium sorbate, which underwent several physical, chemical, microbiological and sensory analyses. Physical and chemical analyses were undertaken for acidity, pH and °Brix; microbiological analyses for total heat-tolerant coliforms, <em>Salmonella</em> sp, molds, yeasts; sensory aspects such as physical features, aroma, flavor and texture, coupled to purchase intention among tasters were investigated. Both formulations comprised physical, chemical and microbiological parameters within standards. Sensory evaluation showed satisfactory results and research on purchase intention showed approximately 80% acceptability. Results from physical, chemical and microbiological tests showed that pickled pepper seasoned with Parmesan cheese may be prepared with citric acid as a preservative. Sensory evaluation and purchase intention indicate a real production and sale possibility of pickled peppers seasoned with Parmesan cheese by family cottage industries.</p> <p class="apalavrachave"> </p
Enumeração e isolamento de bactérias anaeróbias facultativas num reator de fluxo ascendente e manta de lodo tratando efluente de uma indústria de gelatina - DOI: 10.4025/actascibiolsci.v25i2.1977
This experiment measured levels of facultative anaerobic bacteria in an Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactor treating wastewater from a gelatin industry. The microorganism quantification showed similar values in granular sludge bed and fluidized zone. In the settling compartment of reactor, the bacteria were two logs lower. These communities are composed mainly of Gram-negative rods. The most abundant genera isolated were Acinetobacter, Aeromonas, Citrobacter, Escherichia, Klebsiella and Stenotrophomonas. The significance of the bacteria isolated from UASB reactor for public health is unknown. Some species are permanent residents; other are found only in a fraction of the population, and still other species are opportunistic pathogens that cause human infections. In the present study, none of the predominant bacteria belonged to the group of strict pathogensNeste trabalho foram determinados os níveis de bactérias anaeróbias facultativas em Reator de Fluxo Ascendente e Manta de Lodo (UASB) utilizado no tratamento de efluente de industria de gelatina. A quantificação dos microrganismos apresentou similar valor na manta de lodo granular e na zona de fluidização. No compartimento de sedimentação do reator as bactérias foram dois logs menores. Estas comunidades são compostas principalmente de bacilos Gram-negativos. Os mais abundantes gêneros foram Acinetobacter, Aeromonas, Citrobacter, Escherichia, Klebsiella e Stenotrophomonas. O significado para a saúde pública das bactérias isoladas no reator UASB é desconhecido. Algumas espécies são residentes permanentes, outras são encontradas em somente uma parte da população, e ainda outras espécies são patógenos oportunistas que causam infecção humana. No presente estudo, nenhuma das bactérias predominantes pertence ao grupo dos patógenos estrito
