Space distribution of a weed seedbank in a bean cultivation area

    No full text
The objective of this work was to elucidate the characteristics of space distribution of a weed seedbank in order to assist in decision-making for the adoption of management techniques applied to an area under bean monoculture. Agricultural precision tools, as well as techniques of geostatistic analysis, were utilized. The samples were composed of 24 soil samples from georeferenced points, within a quadratic mesh consisting of 20x20 meter cells. The samples of soil were conditioned in plastic trays to provide ideal conditions for seed germination. Some samples presented a potential weed infestation of about 8000 plants m-2 constituting a problem for bean cultivation, disfavoring its development and grain yield

Multivariate screening among black beans accessions to participation in crossing blocks

The multivariate statistical analysis, through measures of dissimilarity, has been helping plant breeders in identifying distant genotypes used to obtain populations segregating desired. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the dissimilarity between 38 accessions of black beans by means of multivariate techniques, and to select parents to compose blocks of crosses. From the Euclidean distance between accessions, grouping by the hierarchical method of Ward was carried out to permit classification of the accessions into different groups, which were then compared using multivariate contrasts. With the use of scores of the first three canonical variables, it was then possible to form six distinct groups that were similar and to corroborate the analysis by clustering methods. The results revealed a wide variability among the accessions studied, where the multivariate analysis was able to add information to the joint range of response variables, and was efficient in determining the difference between such accessions

Observation of WWW Production in pp Collisions at √s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector

This Letter reports the observation of W W W production and a measurement of its cross section using 139     fb − 1 of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with two same-sign leptons (electrons or muons) and at least two jets, as well as events with three charged leptons, are selected. A multivariate technique is then used to discriminate between signal and background events. Events from W W W production are observed with a significance of 8.0 standard deviations, where the expectation is 5.4 standard deviations. The inclusive W W W production cross section is measured to be 820 ± 100   ( stat ) ± 80   ( syst )     fb , approximately 2.6 standard deviations from the predicted cross section of 511 ± 18     fb calculated at next-to-leading-order QCD and leading-order electroweak accuracy
