    A gas turbine engine combustor assembly of annular configuration has outer and inner walls made up of a plurality of axially extending multi-layered porous metal panels joined together at butt joints therebetween and each outer and inner wall including a transition panel of porous metal defining a combustor assembly outlet supported by a combustor mount assembly including a stiffener ring having a side undercut thereon fit over a transition panel end face; and wherein an annular weld joins the ring to the end face to transmit exhaust heat from the end face to the stiffener ring for dissipation from the combustor; a combustor pilot member is located in axially spaced, surrounding relationship to the end face and connector means support the stiffener ring in free floating relationship with the pilot member to compensate for both radial and axial thermal expansion of the transition panel; and said connector means includes a radial gap for maintaining a controlled flow of coolant from outside of the transition panel into cooling relationship with the stiffener ring and said weld to further cool the end face against excessive heat build-up therein during flow of hot gas exhaust through said outlet

    Nimodipine has no effect on the cerebral circulation in conscious pigs, despite an increase in cardiac output

    1. We studied the effects of four doses of nimodipine (0.5, 1, 2 and 4 micrograms kg-1 min-1) on systemic haemodynamics and on regional vascular beds, in particular the cerebral circulation, in conscious pigs. 2. Nimodipine caused dose-dependent, probably reflex-mediated, increases in heart rate (42% with the highest dose) and cardiac output (54%), while arterial blood pressure was only minimally affected. Left ventricular end-diastolic pressure and systemic vascular resistance decreased dose-dependently (35-40% at the highest dose) while stroke volume remained unchanged. 3. Total brain blood flow was not affected by the drug. Furthermore, we could not demonstrate any regional cerebral differences, as blood flows to both cerebral hemispheres as well as the diencephalon, cerebellum and brain stem remained unchanged.4. Blood flow to the kidneys, liver, small intestine and skin also did not change. Nimodipine caused dose-dependent increases in blood flow to the stomach (95%), myocardium (97%) and adrenal glands (102%), while blood flow to skeletal muscles (267%) increased most. 5. It is concluded that in the conscious pig, nimodipine is an arterial vasodilator which shows some selectivity for the skeletal muscle vasculature but does not increase total or regional cerebral blood flow.</p

Vervolgens worden de contouren geschetst van een mogelijk programma voor verbetering en integratie van deze digitale informatievoorziening. Hiermee wordt een overzicht geboden van de huidige initiatieven en projecten en een uitgangspunt gegeven voor de rol die het Nederlandse tuinbouwclusterwil vervullen. Het ziet voor zichzelf een richtinggevende rol weggelegd als ontwikkelaar en eigenaar van besturings- of coördinatieconcepten die gebruikt worden in ICT-systemen, informatiestromen en ketenstandaards. Het rapport onderstreept de noodzaak om tot een integrale aanpak van de digitale informatievoorziening te komen.This report charts and analyses the current situation regarding integrated digitalinformation facilities in the horticultural sector. It also suggests the outlines of a possible programme for improving the integration of these digital information facilities. Additionally it offers an overview of the current initiatives and projects and suggests a starting point for the role which the Dutch horticulture cluster wishes to fill. Dutch horticulture is aiming towards a guiding role as a developer and owner of operational and coordinating concepts which are used in ICT systems, data flows, and chain standards. The report emphasises the necessity of creating an integrated approach to digital information facilities

    Efficiency of energy transfer, but not external work, is maximized in stunned myocardium

    There is no evidence regarding the effect of stunning on maximization of regional myocardial external work (EW) or efficiency of energy transfer (EET) in relation to regional afterload (end-systolic stress, sigma(es)). To that end, we studied these relationships in both the left anterior descending coronary artery (LADCA) and left circumflex coronary artery regions in anesthetized, open-chest pigs before and after LADCA stunning. In normal myocardium, EET vs. sigma(es) was maximal at 75.4 (69.7-81.0)%, whereas EW vs. sigma(es) was submaximal at 12.0 (6.61-17.3) x 10(2) J/m(3). Increasing sigma(es) increased EW by 18 (10-27)%. Regional myocardial stunning decreased EET (27%) and EW (36%) and caused the myocardium to operate both at maximal EW (EW(max)) and at maximal EET (EET(max)). EET and EW became also more sensitive to changes in sigma(es). In the nonstunned region the situation remained unchanged. Combining the data from before and after stunning, both EW(max) and EET(max) displayed a positive relationship with contractility. In conclusion, the normal regional myocardium operated at maximal EET rather than at maximal EW. Therefore, additional EW could be recruited by increasing regional afterload. After myocardial stunning, the myocardium operated at both maximal EW and maximal EET, at the cost of increased afterload sensitivity. Contractility was a major determinant of this shift
